Well, *cough* I'm actually a teenage male, even if all my posts so far might seem like a stereotypical Garrus fanwoman. Not exactly the most comforting thought to you all, I know. If it makes you feel better just pretend I'm a fangirl. Doesn't affect me too much.
If you're going to recruit Garrus, I guess it makes sense that the mission fails if he dies. I don't like seeing him die, though. It's somtimes slightly arousing when he falls in the middle of battle, but you can medi-gel him then, so everything's good. But that's still quite freaky.
Garrus is also the only recruit you have who's really in trouble. Miranda just can't seem to die, Jacob's already part of the team, Mordin stays in his clinic, Jack's too busy screaming and rushing forwards killing things to get hit, Grunt's in a tank, you just pick Zaeed up, Samara's busy sitting already killing somebody up ahead or sitting in the station, Tali's locked in an observatory, Thane's already hiding up some pipe in the final room and you just transport Legion to the ship. Garrus is the only one in trouble, with a health bar, and the only person you should truly be worried about, which makes him more awesome. Save him or let your conscience haunt you forever.
I don't think Shepard and Garrus's happy ending should be too ambiguous, however. Sure, don't make it too definite with babies, proposal, marriage or even one's untimely death (which I would hate the most), but I'd like to know that, for example, they're in love, they're happy, and such other things that define a deep and successful relationship.
