Yep.
At least it's a lot more gradual with the first game's LIs, with more
plot-based interactions going on. Ashley/Kaiden getting saved by you
twice, Liara mind melding with you a couple of times. They didn't have
enough of that in ME2, which is why I think the limited progress of your
relationship with Garrus makes more sense.
I think all of the romances in ME2 have a
lot of relationship progress, Garrus' included. Some just portray it differently than others.
I suppose it's true that although Thane and Jacob haven't known Shepard for very long, extreme circumstances can certainly bring two people closer together in a short period of time. So it isn't too far-fetched.
...I still don't like Jacob's "I love you" line, though. And even though I hate his romance, I don't think it's a fling. It definitely has the least substance out of all the options, but I got the distinct impression that he wants to have an actual relationship with Shepard.
Here's the thing that I don't understand about that line. On one hand, it really does seem like he's only saying it because he wants to get into her pants. On the other hand, I'd like to think that BioWare wouldn't actually make a guy like that a love interest and expect the players to appreciate it. Which would mean that when he said "I love you", he meant it. Which makes no damn sense because Garrus and Thane are far more likely to actually be in love with Shepard at that point and yet neither of them even come close to saying it. I suppose actions are more important than words, though.
Anyone know what Miranda's reaction is if you reject her in the final scene?
