I vote for external because most higher functioning land-based species have it external.  It's like an intelligence test: Can you protect your ability to continue procreating?  Also, I suspect external for 'display' - at some point in development, all warm-blooded species have to show off to their prospective mates.  Healthy, well-developed parts are attractive and suggest that procreation would not only be successful but pleasurable.  Finally, development of the species would favor a predator male design that can quickly and efficiently complete the act - having to stop and 'unsheath' as it were would be a hindrance if there was a competing male who didn't have to extract his parts, but could simply mount and begin the act.

Trying to keep it biological, but damn that sounds dirty.  Oh well.

Anyway, I'm firmly (*snicker*) in the external camp.

Addendum: I'm also on the side of a thick semi-metallic skin, more like certain armored dinosaurs (sauropelta or something) rather than actual armor, like an armadillo.

Clinical and dirty?  LMAO.

And yes, the wiki should have left out the confusing word "exoskeleton" and just stuck with "hide."

According to the description, it's just Omega. I don't know what he's looking at specifically.

Can anybody with the sound files help, I'm labelling them for no apparent reason, and in one of them, Garrus says something like "on your" and to me the word sounds like "sict", but I have no idea if that's meant to mean anything. Can somebody clarify? I think it's a response to an order, but I don't know what he's saying.

Oh, thanks, that clears it up. Sorry if that seemed obvious...

*continues labelling*

Upon seeing that image, the theme from Batman: The Animated Series immediately began to play.
...Duncan's Beard, that show was awesome.

I see that a certain topic keeps arising and I'm wondering if this thread is willing to discuss it...
The topic [TURIAN GENITALIA]
I don't expect any confirmation from Bioware about this kind of thing...but...do you think that for male Turians it is...um...stored internally or is it an external organ (humanoid)? Why?

OK, A) I need to learn to make text disappear like that.  How? I am technologically deficient...:pinched:

B) Although it seems like the radiation would require the most important bits as protected as possible.....I agree with aynxalot that the concept art isn't reliable just because the artists weren't going to sacrifice their dignity to details that were going to be under armor anyway...However just from the way their armor (clothing armor that is) looks, it seems like it'd have to be either internal, or extremely uncomfortable (or itty bitty:o...which is not an option! lol).  Speaking of science for fanfiction, he ahem folder actually has a..um...scientific diagram....which made me feel rather "dirty and clinical" to look at (aw, joke ninja'd )  lol, but actually is pretty well thought out. I mean I could buy that, even though internal still sometimes gives me a little case of the squickies....

As for bend-ability, like ppl said, themetal in their skin doesn't make plates, it's only shielding on a molecular level.  I imagine it more of a "rough hide" as Sialater said than true plating.

C)  Speaking of which, anyone upset about the Ahem folder had WAY more than fair warning if they bothered to read back in the thread even a little bit, which a courteous threadgoer would do.

D) The Kasumi trailer.  Still not clear on why Norman said it would be the DLC to make femSheps happy? If she just meant because you are going to a party or something, that seems sort of...gender stereotyping which she as a woman (especially as one those rare female designers) you'd think would avoid. Well...femShep wasn't in the trailer...maybe she DOES wear a dress and stilletos then? hehe.:D   Also, yeah, I so wish Shep could make a comment to Garrus about fighting in antique shops, lol.

Edit: trying to fix the spacing...a little...

Using the "full form," just highlight the text you want to hide. Then change the text color using the button that has a capital `t' with a block of colors next to it. Select the dark gray color in the top right, it's the same color as the forum background. Does that make sense?

I'll take some screenshots later and make a hidden-text tutorial...it'll probably be useful on these boards for comedic, NSFW, or spoiler purposes.

I want to know what she meant when she said that, too! If it's the whole play dress-up thing, then I am a little disappointed. I was overthinking it, though. The most popular female love interest is apparently Garrus so I thought it might be Garrus-related...especially once I saw there might be fighting in a classy place.

But...The Angry One seems to think we're just getting trolled. Again.

I vote for external, because you can kick Turian in the "nuts" area (Meln the pervy Turian and Asari) and it looked painful. Also Garrus knew exactly where to hit Harkin. Hur Hur.

Oh, c'mon...if I see yet another epic poem about Turian genitals...

I just heard Tali saying "Tell us about your Turian genitals!" to Garrus much like his "Tell us about your immune system!" manner.

Why did I just have a mental image of Garrus launching into a rousing song a la Mordin's "I am the very model of a scientist Salarian"? :alien:

(And to the person who commented on the "ahem" folder, I have to say that about the first 6 pics weren't my cup of tea, either...I knew what I was getting into when I opened that folder, and LOVE the rest of it, but I deleted those pics off my computer while looking at the thumbnail through my fingers, LOL)

Random thought on turian culture (again):

Does anyone get the impression that turians don't do casual touching like humans do? I mean I can't even remember a turian giving a handshake. The only one ever doing any touching in regard to Garrus is Shepard (and she doesn't touch him often even then), except if you romance him--in which case, no, it doesn't cut off straight after the forehead-touching. Watch closely and you notice Garrus reaching out to very gently stroke Shepard's arm/shoulder with the backs of his fingers. That's the only time, apart from if he is rescued by Shepard and/or pulls her up into the Normandy at the final mission, where you see Garrus actually initiate physical contact.

That leads me to believe turians only touch people they're intimate with. Like family, lovers, mates?

Well. My two cents.

Plus, we know turians have nuts. Something Wrex said about the space station he blew up and him comparing to what was left was as much as a turian's right nut. My vote is also external. I'd have more to add buuuuuut I'm at work, and this ain't good library speak /runs

If those spam mails you get in ME2 are any indication, there's a stereotype going around which says that krogan are huge compared to juuust about everybody.

In ME1 if you don't go to Michelle's med-lab you run into Garrus at the elevator that leads to the normany, and when you invite him along you give him an handshake :D

Eeee. Image IPB This is exactly the topic of the fanfic I'm writing currently. Though I'm having a hard time not going off on tangents....
My addition to your postulation is that 1) human skin is probably more sensitive than turian hide, and 2) their society is much more rigid and structured, more about staying in your place and not being too bold or overly expressive to others you don't know very, very well.
