The funniest thing I saw was when I ran into Rebecca and Michael on the Citadel talking about her son, who's now almost 2 (you know, the pregnant lady and her bro-in-law wanting to know whether or not to get the baby gene therapy).  She was asking him about some kind of treatment for her son and Michael said something like,  "well, we could do this, or do such-and-such...or we could just ask complete strangers for advice!"  ../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png
To keep this Garrus-related, I should mention I had him with me at the time...ahem...ok, tenuous.  :P

(eta:  That picture cracked me up, but I'd suggest one small change: in the first pic, those guys should all be asleep after seeing Kaidan.)

Aw I'm so jealous at everyone's surprise at Garrus being 'manceable. When I had it spoiled for me, I admit I was like "screw it" and took to looking it up on the net to find out if there was a specific thing I had to say to him. I was kinda disappointed to find that all that was required was "So i herd u liek flexibilitiez?" I was initially shocked at how forward Shep was....until I witnessed convos with Jacob and Thane.

Jacob: "Blah blah blah"
Shep: (chosen wheel choice: Yes) "I'm not wearing any underwear"

Thane: "Blah blah dead wife, sunset eyes, blah blah"
Shep: (wheel choices: 'I'm sorry', 'get over it', 'ME SO HORNY!')

Shepard's dialogue isn't exactly romantic, unfortunately.

True, but it didn't leave me feeling like a sleaze bucket afterwards.

Yeah, I.....I went onto the Mass Effect Wiki out of curiosity after learning ME2 was coming out (hadn't totally finished ME1 myself, and had had a really busy coupla years) and spoiled myself about the Garrusmance. The I YouTubed it. Repeatedly. I will note that it did not harm my enjoyment of the whole thing one bit. :) In fact, in a strange way it was kind of nice knowing what to say so I didn't screw it up.

Gotta wonder about the ME2/ME3 timeskip. It was 2 years for the first timeskip, and it was fun because that's how much time passed IRL.

O -> I WANT YOU, THANE.
Laughed so hard at that. It kind of ruined that atmosphere.

You know, there's an odd disparity between male and female romances; just being kind to Jack and Miranda gets you into their romance (apparently the Miranda romance flag pops up just after being nice to her in her post-LM convo, before you actually do any hardcore flirting), and Tali's liked you since the first game. You have to be really forward with Thane and Garrus (despite the fact that Thane is ALREADY in love with you), and practically sexually harass Jacob into it.

With everyone but Garrus, I don't get it.

But you do kinda have to be rather obvious when you're propositioning your best friend for a "release of tension." So, I get why she just jumps right in to that. I could wish for more tact... but I've got no problem with it being obvious.

And what Shepard says to Thane isn't, "I want you," in those exact words. That's just what the dialogue wheel shows.

*shudder* at the thought of sexually harassing Jacob
(not that I think he's unattractive or something, but when I heard about what he says to you later in your romance...oooh, I don't like him no mores!)
I started a blog on 1Up called "Is it just me or is Shepard a ho?" after I saw that not only Jacob, Thane, and Garrus were willing to LI with you, but Kelly was doling out "friendly" hugs like they were going out of style and then Tali offered to share her suit environment...I was like, is there anyone who doesn't luv them some Shepard??  I mean, in ME1 I got 2 choices and all of the sudden it seemed like I couldn't walk past someone without them offering to grope me or something. :P

Technically, SHE'S offering to grope them.

I'm aware that's just what the wheel says (thus my little ASCII-style diagram), but that's part of my point. The male romances are easy to stumble into (not being a dick to Jack and Miranda, Tali already wants you). The female romances have a very obvious 'romance this person: yes/no' option, with only those two choices on the dialog wheel. (well, with the exception of Jacob, but that's part of his general romance problem). In contrast, all 3 of the ME1 romances were also easy to stumble into (just look at how often an 'accidental romance' thread pops up).

Anecdote. a male friend of mine was playing ME1 as a female for Garrus-related purposes. Regarding Kaidan: "I was just trying to have a conversation with this guy and he keeps going on about our relationship! Is this what being a woman is like?!"

OK, I had to laugh for a good five minutes at that.

Well, even being in a coma for two years I guess you wake up just needing that extra something. Gotta make sure all the parts work and everything.  Make sure it's all callibrated.

I don't understand how anyone managed to "accidentally" romance Kaiden. When he asks Shepard if there's a connection between them, she can clearly tell him no. And that's the end of it.

It happens pretty easily, actually. I spoke with Kaidan once, and never again, yet somehow he still ended up trying to kiss my Shepard. I was pretty confused. I also ended up accidentally romancing Liara, but all I did was be nice to her, which apparently equals asari action.

Strange, that sounds like some kind of bug. I've never had that happen in any of my playthroughs...it could be that I've been lucky, though.

See? Being a Renegade in ME1 had more than just awesome factor.

No accidental romances! /lawl

Anywho, just did another Horizon... and I had to laugh. In the beginning, Kaiden and Lillith are all "the defense guns aren't calibrated hurrrrrrrrr"

I just laughed for a min straight.

Plus the laughing helps me not back hand Kaiden into next year. "I don't trust Cerberus!" "You mean you don't trust me anymore? I WAS DEAD YOU ****. DEAD. COULD NOT COMMUNICATE."

I feel for the Shenko's, I really do. So much nonsense.... more than happy with mah turian piece of carapace. XD

ME1 romances were not handled as well as they were in ME2 in that aspect. Lots of ambiguity. I talked to Ashley and was simply nice to her and eventually she locks you in to her romance. She asks you if you're still interested, and all of the answers say yes in different ways. I suggest in ME3 if there are any new romances (I assume there may to accommodate new players) romance dialogue should be green or different colored text.

I couldn't get Ash to get with me, even though I was as nice and attentive to her as I could get...is it because Ricky Shepard was a Renegade and an arse to everyone else?

Also, Garrus.

If you tell Ashley to fall back into line when she says that she's unsure of the aliens on the ship, the romance doesn't happen. But since my Shepard wasn't a jerk, he didn't say that and wanted to hear her out. Unfortunately just being nice to her makes her think you're interested. I like ME2 better where it's less ambiguous and you can leave the relationship at any time.

I usually just let the thing go till Kaidan and Liara confronted me.  It was easier that way.

And now, it makes a lot of sense since she couldn't let Shepard go.

*L* My brother played as a FemShep right off the bat with ME1 which surprised the dickens outta me. Then I found out it was to romance Liara, and it all made sense. He was all kinds of pissy when his FemShep couldn't romance Jack. XD

Blech. I was worried enough about accidentally romancing Kaidan on my latest playthrough that I Virmired him (love how that's turned into a verb). In my first ME2, during Horizon, I wanted to punch his poofy hair so much.

Kaidain: "You think just cuz they brought you back to life you owe them??!!"

FemShep: "Uh, yeah. Kthxbai."

Even lizard boys are aroused by garrus. But on a serious note, the only way to help relieve garrus's stress and tension is to play as a femshep and have sexy time with him? I say let bromances help relieve stress too!

I agree, you only get to talk to him 3 times if you use a male character. He should be interesting without being romanceable too.
