[gameplay nerd] The problem with Barrier is that the enemies will use Warp, which does extra damage to Barrier. They will also use Incinerate, which does extra damage to Fortification's armor. However, nobody, even on Insanity, will use Overload, which does extra damage to shields. Thus, Legion's Geth Shield Boost is the single most useful defensive power. Ah, see. This is where I don't play on INsanity. Like. Ever. I feel like a Big Girl playing on Vet. >.>
That's about as difficult I can stomach before raging at the PC. Good points for the future in case I actually do lose my mind and try Insanity.
Also, I like the pretty blue glowy effect <.<

@boots - what you said. If I MUST have extra protection (yeah, I said extra protection, I can hear people snickering) then I go for the Geth shields. Reave = the love.

There WILL be a day that I finish a ME2 playthrough on insanity. But I won't play it on my laptop; it crashes when praetorians are near. And it also crashes at the reaper core that you have to destroy while husks keep coming from all sides. That's not helping when insanity without the crashes is hard enough.

I know I've had enemies use Warp on me even on Normal; Insanity just ups the speed and frequency of AI power use. Insanity isn't really difficult, in the usual sense--enemies just have more health and do more damage, the AI doesn't radically change. It just takes a lot of patience, playing defensively, and the correct abilties. Took me seven tries to get past the platforms on the Collector derelict; tried a bunch of teams, but when I brought Miranda and Thane and Warp-bombed the sh!t out of them I cut through the place like a hot knife through butter. The Husk corridor was glorious; toss out a Singularity with the Blackstorm as they round the corner, switch to Revenant with Inferno Ammo, Warp-bomb, cut loose on full auto. They never touched me. On any difficulty, take the Flamethrower to make the Reaper derelict a cakewalk. Husks swarming you? FLAMETHROWER ALL UP IN THIS B!TCH. It was perfect for the final Core fight.
To be on-topic, party members on Insanity are highly situational, but Garrus is an excellent companion for any mission on Illium; you run into Eclipse and light mechs there, perfect targets for his Overload/Concussive Shot. Give him the sniper rifle (go for the Mantis over the Viper for squaddies, since they have infinite ammo) and order him into cover near the back of the battlefield, and he's set. AP Ammo isn't necessary, but a nice bonus.

The Arc Projector is probably glorious on the derelict.

Insanity is a trial of patience. The quicker route is to develop a Shepard that can bulldoze through the battlefield on his own. I much rather take the time to discover glorious squad combinations. Pull/Concussive Shot is nice. Also, Garrus, Legion, and Shepard Infiltrator is a Sniper Team of Sniping Death.

Well, I'm not sure. The romances already are structured around them saying Shepard, so I would imagine that the reader would not mind them using just using Shepard. Using the last name can also be said to be a sign of respect, as well as a sign of affection as they could simply say "commander" as some of the squad mates do.enormousmoonboots wrote...
Getting around the first-name issue requires some serious hoop-jumping if you're writing a romance fic, since it stands to reason that two people knocking boots would be on a first-name basis.

...you know, thinking about what 'embrace eternity' seems to mean, in the context we see it in (right before melding; a prayer? Actually, it's worryingly similar to Samara's 'find peace in the embrace of the goddess', which she says before killing someone), I have to wonder what that gel actually does. I wonder if it's like the stuff the doctor swabs on if they put electrodes on you? Like, trying to enhance conductivity at meld 'contract points'?silentstephi wrote...

Then again, knowing Illium, it's probably snake oil. Anyone else hear that 'your skin looks lovely! Are you touching things up with biotics?' ad? How the **** could you enhance your skin with biotics?

Aaaand that was the exact moment I was like 'nope, can't even romance Thane on a secondary playthrough'. That and 'I use my perfect memory to ****** to my dead wife'. JESUS CHRIST, THANE
(since I know someone's going to ask when he says that, when you ask about drawbacks to his perfect memory he tells you that it's better than 'lonely nights staring at the wall'. Thane is so indirect it took me two playthroughs to realize what he meant)
...What.
I...don't think I've ever come across that line before. Or at least, if I did, I didn't make that, uh, connection. Eek. I like Thane, but I was always a little "eh" on the whole "HOMGS MY DEAD WIFE" thing, and that new bit of knowledge doesn't exactly make it any better! Thank goodness for Garrus, is all I have to say.

HAH! Glad I'm not the only one who thought that.
I like Thane, and I find his romance appropriate for one of my Shepards. There are just certain things about him and his romance that prevented him from becoming one of my favorites. Besides, in my mind it's hard for anyone to compare to Garrus. He's just too awesome.

Yea, even though I made the same connection the first time I spoke with Thane and got that conversation started, didn't really bug me.

Though there was an interesting convo going on over at NSAS about whether or not Thane's much of a sexual creature or just a hot monk (that's a real butchered summary of the whole thing, but I's tired

I don't really think any of the love interests (except for Jack) are very "sexual". And by that I don't mean they outright avoid sex, but I don't think they put a lot of effort into pursuing it either. Miranda and Garrus are both very focused on their work/goals/missions/etc, Thane prefers to keep to himself, Tali can't go around having sex left and right if she wants to live, and Jacob initially didn't seem to appreciate FemShep's advances. Though that could just be because he wants to keep things professional. Maybe outside of military situations he's a total playboy, buuut I have a hard time imagining that.
