So Garrus.  In favor of the renegade or paragon route?  Renegade all the way for me.

I have no comment on the Sidonis mission in ME2 (for now), but I think I fell in love with Garrus for the first time when I picked the Renegade response in ME1 back on the Citadel in Chloe Michel's office (paraphrased, so don't get all canonical on me, please!)

Shep: Nice shot.
Garrus:  Hey, sometimes you get lucky.

Can you say :wub::wub::wub: !!!!

I paragoned him throughout ME1 and ME2. FemShep is snippier with him as a paragon but MY SHIP MY RULES. He respects her for it, though. c:

I loved paragoning him in ME1 though. He gets so adorable.

"No civilian casualties, Garrus. Understand?"

"I wasn't trying t-... yes, Commander."

The best part is that both Shepard and Garrus look ridiculous in their outfits.

It does. If you believe.

But...yeah. Should have used the sound file of Garrus being taken by the Collector swarm.

(poor Garrus...)

Instead, it just sounds like Garrus goes into anaphylactic shock after a sparring match.

...and...pervy TIM is a PERV.

D'awwwwww! I was going to give you a picture of Dude!Shep piggybacking on Garrus (bromantically)...but because the links to said picture of browesomesauce are brokkered, you'll just have to settle for brostroking and brocuddles instead. :C

Actually, My favorite reaction is that of my Paragade Shepard: she doesn't like Garrus at first because of him taking that shot. (She's....idealistic.  And therefore dangerous. At least my paragon thinks before acting.)

It's basically "you're a goddamn loose cannon Vakarian, blah blah blah" and she doesn't need someone so hotheaded on her team. So she tries to refuse him joining, is slightly dickish to him for a small amount of time. But of course, he's Garrus. Doesn't take long before a friendship grows there. (Kind of like with Wrex, or even Thane: it's hard to believe a Paragon Shepard would become friends with people so lax about killing (Niether of my Shepards can truly get behind Thane's idea of morality, I'm sorry, NO.  Also, parentheses within parentheses, I am not ashamed.) but apparently they are just TOO AWESOME TO RESIST THE BROMANCE.)

/uninteresting personal Shepard anecdote

Depends on the Shepard I'm playing with. Mostly Paragon.

But I encouraged him to be Renegade in my first Mass Effect playthrough.

EDIT: Oooooh. Thanks for the link, aznsoi!

Coincidentally, Garrus became my favorite character in the same scene. For me, it was after he said, "Perfect timing, Shepard. It gave me a clear shot at that bastard." Sounds like the perfect partner-in-crime. B)

---

ELE08: I'd push him into the paragon route. I think when he goes renegade, it almost turns him into a self-absorbed individual who's more interested in taking out personal revenges than working towards the greater good. That really changes the Garrus my FemShep had grown to respect, and makes him susceptible to serious intolerance, an attitude the commander will never put up with.

He also gets a little too sidetracked by his feelings to be an effective renegade, IMO. It would be incredibly easy to manipulate and provoke him for your own ends. Angry bulls typically make weak opponents because they leave their motivations wide open for attack.

Garrus is not real. Shouldn't you give love and adoration to a real person? Not a hideous alien that fights other aliens with you?

Because we can't....do both? :? I adore Garrus and thus cannot love another person at all evar in the history of evar?

It's so much easier to see the world in black and white.  Grey?  You don't know what to do with grey.

Obvious trolls are obvious. I like it when they at least try a little. Geez.

I think Garrus might take issue with being called pretty. Really, Shepard? Pretty? Doesn't that have sort of effeminate connotations for humans? I'll go with ruggedly handsome.

Who told you these lies? Doncha know, krogan women think Garrus is a sex god with his scars. And we all know krogan women are the pinnacle of woman-dom. Krogan females are connoisseurs of men--their word is as good as law.

Ooooh, this is an interesting point of view. I'm not sure I agree that by becoming Renegade he becomes more self-absorbed--he just takes a less complicated route to deal with a given situation. His overall goal of protecting people still seems to be there as a Renegade, he just takes care of the root of the problem first and deals with the details later (aka without my durr lingo: He makes nailing the bad guy the priority whereas hostages/civilians take a back seat).

Yeah, well, alright.  Just don't spread it around.  I have a reputation to keep.  What about dashing?  Strapping?  No?  Please don't hurt me.

Interesting.  Renegade is a path fraught with misunderstanding.  Maybe because different people have different definitions of what exactly it entails.  The desired outcome I think is always the same but the path there is different.  The paragon turns the bad guy over to the law.  The renegade shoots him in the face.  Paragon Garrus is Batman.  Renegade Garrus is Frank Castle.  Feel free to poke holes in this theory.

Oh yeah, what was my point?  I like renegade Garrus.  I don't think he's necessarily more self-absorbed or consumed by negativity--just hardened to the injustices of reality but otherwise well adjusted (disclaimer: my ME reality.)  And maybe renegade Garrus is a little damaged.  So is my Shepard, but I like to think it adds character.
