I don't see why you have such a hard time accepting the fact that a lot of people quite like the idea of Kal'Reegar/Tali. A pairing doesn't have to make complete sense in canon for people to like it.

No, sure, I'm just teasing anyway. People can ship whatever they want.

Oh I'm not not accepting it, I just don't understand and agree with the reasoning for it. For me, it's like pairing Garrrus with a random female Turian in ME3.

I wonder if a Turian fringe has much give to it. Like a male Turian splays it out like a peacock in one of their more bizarre mating rituals.

I thought you said it was like pairing Garrus with Jack? :P

You know, I've actually heard that idea pitched quite a few times (Garrus and a random turian female, not Jack). It wouldn't make much sense to me, but as long as it didn't get in the way of Shepard/Garrus (and it wouldn't) then I wouldn't care. Even if the writers do give you the option of getting Tali and Reegar together, I don't think the Tali fans have anything to worry about. BioWare knows better than to do something like that.

I don't see what's wrong with Garrus ending up with a random female Turian. So long as she is an awesome female Turian.

Bit of a shame that your squadmates can't develop their own lives if, for whatever reason, they were not your love interest. I mean, I have female Shepards. Is Tali going to pine for the lost opportunity because I can't romance her? Is Garrus doomed to an empty life because I decided he made a better friend than lover?

Well, what good is a fringe if you can't use it anyway?

Maybe it's like fingernails, and it just grows until it's worn down. Actually this thought is creeping me out now.

And I don't like it when a character comes in who is obviously written to be x character's companion. I don't have a problem with them pairing off my squadmates, just as long as it's not eye-rollingly obviously like you're breeding pedigree dogs or something.

Trips to the barber to trim back their fringes, eh?

Agreed. This is actually why I don't really want to join an ME RPG. I get the temptation, and then I see characters crafted specifically to be a canon character's LI (usually Garrus) and go zzzzz.

Exactly, and freakish World Record turians with gross, yellowing fringes growing down to their back.

Or it starts to curl back and you get ingrown fringe...

I like the idea of splaying out like a peacock better.

Maybe I'd get it if I ever got around to watching Firefly.

Indeed. Firefly is awesomesauce as a general rule, and Adam Baldwin's character is particularly priceless.

I thought Garrus never went to Omega with the intention of recruiting people. I thought he operated solo for a little while, and, because his actions proved to people that something could be done, some people started to join up with him?

Regarding Garrus' personality in Mass Effect: Yeah, I agree, he is incredibly professional. But he makes it clear that he's joining Shepard to see how things are done in an environment that isn't restricted by the red tape of C-Sec. It's an experiment on how things are done. In a lot of ways, I interpreted his professionalism in the first game as him still being in the mentality of being a C-Sec officer sans the rules and regs. We never see Garrus in a scneario where he isn't thinking about the job in the first game (Dang it, Garrus tell me more about you! Enough with C-Sec!).

I don't think he struggles to make friends, per se, but I do think he has a hard time managing friends when he busies himself with work. Kind of like what Dr. Michel emphasizes in her letter. Whenever he goes on one of his grand crusades, he excludes other people. I'm also not sure Garrus saying Shepard is about the only friend he has left is conclusive to him not having many friends... but that's probably the part of my brain that's butthurt he never said it to my Dude!Shep (Dude!Shep: why do the maleins try to hurt me so bad? :'C). Still, valid point.

Also, despite whatever disagreements Garrus had with his dad, it sounds like he was pretty close with him. I mean, "My dad's pretty broken up about it." "Bla bla bla, reapply for Spectre training, it'll kill my father, but I have to try" - stop caring about your father's feelings and rebel like the teenaged son you're supposed to be, Garrus! That relationship with his father didn't stop him from quitting C-Sec and joining up with Shepard. Plus, we're given a glimpse of how bad C-Sec can get with Garrus' comment on "revolving-door prisons" and with Bailey's admittance to taking bribes from Kelham. If there's one thing that we can all confirm about Garrus' personality, it's that he hates injustice and C-Sec at that point is rank with it. I don't think relationships of any kind would stop him from getting on his Batman cape and saving the citizens of Gotham Omega.

I can see why Garrus wouldn't be too eager to contact his family, though, given his father's position on vigilantism. I doubt he'd approve, regardless of whether or not Garrus ran around as a vigilante on a lawless space station.

And finally (I know, you're all waiting for me to shut up), commanding people without friendship in BioWare games? You've seen how that works out in Dragon Age! D:

GW: Dammit Alistair, get back here and have that demon baby with Morrigan right now or so help me I'll kill another innocent bystander!
A: No, you're not my friend! My approval rating told me so!
GW: FFUUUUUU---!!

I always thought Garrus was cool, but in Mass Effect 2 I got even more respect for him when I found out there was a Turian sniper called Archangel who took out many mercs and a ship, there HAD to be only one man who could fit the role. A great character who NEEDS to be in ME3 as a squad member.

Hear hear!

But back to the subject, I can expect that he wouldn't let many people close, even moreso after getting betrayed, but he's still generally pretty charismatic.  Which is why it's that much more adorable when he gets flustered by Shepard.

Don't you kind of have to be charismatic to be targetted as a Spectre? It almost sounds like you do, what with the Council always falling back to throwing that word around when describing Saren and his obvious "charismatic" manipulations of Shepard's logic.

...RAAAAAGE.

I suspect female turians look rather similar to their male counterparts. The only species I can picture having an extreme sexual dimorphism are the Salarians. I don't know why.

Yeah, considering they are the brood mothers... ugh now I'm having flashbacks to Dragon Age.

Somebody came up with this for Turians.

I think it's kind of a given that there will be more Mass Effect games. Not with the same characters, but when they put this much time into building a universe, it's easy to stick with and build on the franchise.

Just to put it into context, Kal x Tali feels like Jack x Garrus to me.

Hey look, you did make it on-topic! That's an awfully funny comparison to make, though. Did you pick up on my Jack/Garrus ship?
