Isn't it what the extranets are for? Google it! If the vids did not cut it, there's probably enough written material. He promised to do research but... well... I guess he spent too much time planetside killing people. With guns. We're saving the galaxy here, after all.
Or was it EDI who has put up firewalls in a failed attempt to keep Joker off porn?

Speaking of joker, I so wish we had gotten to see more of his interaction with the crew, especially Garrus, seeing he wasn't that fond of him before and now he's almost kinda scared of him (and his killing with the stick once logged in his butt).

I mean, Shepard goes to Mordin for advice. But it wouldn't it have been funny if Garrus went to Joker for advice? Seeing we know he has... "useful materials" on hand for that sort of thing (as you know if you stand next to him for a long time).

Garrus: Joker

Joker: Garrus

Garrus: ...*cough* Uh, hey Joker, could I ask you a favor?

Joker: I dunno, can't it wait? I'm "in the middle of some calibrations."

Garrus: Funny. Look, I'm serious.

Joker: Ok, what is it?

Garrus: Can... I uh, borrow some your vids?

Joker: I dunno. All I have is cheesy 20th century sci-fi. Doubt you'd like it.

Garrus: No, no. I mean uh... certain vids. Vids of a, "mature" nature... For research purposes.

Joker: "Research?" Wait a minute, when you say you're "calibrating..."

Garrus: You know what, uh, nevermind. Yeah, nevermind *flees*

LMAO.   I *totally* just heard that entire dialog in my head in Seth Green/Brandon Keener's voices.  I really wish they had something like that in game, a la Dragon Age's "advice" party dialogs.

What does her email say to Garrus??????? How come I didn't get one? *pouts*

This was troubling me, too, since everybody was talking about this email and I never once got it. I trudged my way through a ME1 playthrough this week and completed Michel's sidequest where she's being blackmailed, imported the save and got the email.  I can only assume that's the reason.

Yeah, it sucks because my most preferred canon playthrough was also my very first one.  I don't think I did Michel's side quest at all.  There are others I did but apparently didn't do "right" to get the best follow-up in ME2, like Conrad Verner.  I talked him a few times for sure, but for whatever reason he doesn't show up again in ME2.  And on Noveria I helped both Lorik AND Parasini and I don't get the email from Lorik. Also, my paragon Shep accidentally let Garrus kill Dr. Saleon, even though she normally tries to push him paragon.  I just hope that doesn't affect his ultimate outcome in ME3...:( I would just go back and do a perfect ME1 run-through but I don't know if I could stand it...

I don't really adore Thane, (I've ah...I've never actually managed a playthrough romancing him, I just watched the videos on youtube.  It's not my fault! Garrus's is just too good!)  I just like him as a non-LI and I can see where his fangirls are coming from. (There was one moment where he really caught me off-guard in my first playthrough:  His line about "The taste of another's tongue in your mouth".  He had me blushing in a good way, but that was the last time he ever had me.)

Yeah, the tongue-in-your-mouth line kind of snuck up on me too, I
was like "oh reeeeeeally now, hmmmm...hmm hmm hmm."  I romanced him one
of the times; I think despite the uberangst
his romance will be rewarding if Shep's able to find a cure for him.
Then all his problems will be solved, yayyy!

I do see where you're coming from with the overly-sappy feeling though: part of the reason Thane's romance doesn't compete with Garrus's for me is the ANGST-ANGST-ANGST that poor Thane has to go through.  Dying, yes, that sucks, Oh, your wife's dead, that su-OH, your kid hates you, THAT SUCKS.  Man, galaxy: give the guy a break.  All those issues aren't appealing to me in a romantic way.  Shepard has enough baggage of her own to deal with.

Garrus on the other hand doesn't really dump any of his problems on Shepard except for his revenge-thing, which is interesting because, ISSUES:  You know he has them.  His dad disapproves of his life, His mentor died and then came back to life, his squad got killed and he blames himself...and yet he doesn't go on and on and on about it.  Not saying that Thane doesn't have a right to talk about the things that bother him in pretty much every conversation, I just like that Garrus doesn't. Personal taste.

I do like that about Garrus, but in Thane's defense...Shep IS always asking people to talk about their problems.  heh.  I just wish that more characters than, well, Jacob, would ask her the same in return.

Argh, there's too much to read before my class so I'm just gonna say this without checking for preemption; the Dr. Michel email made me laugh because it reminded me of "He's Just Not That Into You" with her all like "I tried calling, and emailing, and I looked up his old number, but he hasn't answered, but you know how he is, maybe he's just [makes excuses for him], he never talks to me, but I just know he's the greatest, blah, blah, blah!" and then I remembered Brandon Keener is IN "He's Just Not That Into You".....COINCIDENCE?!?! j/k but it made me lol a little.

No one cares about the player character's problems....

"Why, thank you for asking, Garrus. Since you asked, dying kind of sucked, and also wasn't fun coming back and seeing how the old crew completely team apart without me. Oh, and I worked so hard to save the Council and convince Chief Williams that they were good and useful, and it seems I was wrong."

For anyone curious. Yes, that is a shirtless Turian image. Yes, that's my Turian self. And since people might ask me about it.. The nut I'm holding? You remember that bartender on Illum who warns you not to eat nuts from the red bowls? Exactlllyyyy.

I dunno, I thought it was pretty clever.

I didn't notice the nut until you mentioned it...and somehow it's hilarious! Oh, come on...shirtless Turian eating bar nuts!

Anyway...FREAKIN SWEET.

Thank you! :D

Nothing wrong with eating bar nuts shirtless, right? I mean.. What Turian doesn't go to a bar half naked just to do that?

Human females have one "benefit" when it comes to interspecies, er... diplomacy, let's call it. They bear an uncanny resemblance to the asari which most species seem to find incredibly attractive.

This alone made me LOL.

@ComTrav: Did you saved the council because you thought they were good/it's the "right" thing to do?
I...just wanted to make sure they lived so that I could rub it in their face how wrong they were in ME3. Turian councilor airquotes? Totally worth it.
...um...Sorry alliances forces that died. It's an honorable cause, I swear.

Shepard: The best part about stopping the Reapers isn't saving the Galaxy, it's showing the council I did.

I never got to be rejected by Mordin :crying: Not sure how I managed to skip that, hopefully I'll manage this next playthrough :P

Thane's tongue line actually kind of creeped me out... then again it may have been it's proximity to or incorporation into one of his memory flashbacks, which creeped me out... Anyway, I picked all the "ok, good, glad we sorted that out, gotta go" choices from then on LOL

*raises his hand* I'm also a turian, but since I'm not really a great artist or anything, all I have to show for now is a simple sketch and a few basic outfit references (based on Saren's concept art). Here's Skethis, an agent of the Turian Inquisition (details can be found . . . elsewhere):

Except that his "compliments" in his final scene also seem strained/forced, to me.  Part of that can be attributed to not knowing what to say, but surely he can think of a better way to compliment hair than that it looks "good"--if he actually means it.  I doubt he'd get away with what he said if Shepard were a turian!  I'm assuming that what we hear of Garrus is through a translator--if he knows some Earth languages/English and has switched to it there, then I could understand the poor choice of words.  No matter how awkward he's been in either game, I've never before seen him choose his wording that poorly.  And why would you think he's attracted to other species if he's never been drawn to consider looking at them?  People tend to notice when they think someone is attractive.  I think, given the dialogue, that in the Shepard-Garrus romance, it's not about physical attraction at all.  It's because of who they are--and to me, that's a lot nicer than believing that they think each other is hot.

There's a very simple explanation given by Garrus himself as to why they sound strained/forced: he doesn't want to screw up the only thing going right for him.  He's just been through Shepard's death, betrayal by Sidonis, the deaths of his entire squad, and revenge or forgiveness when it comes to a second encounter with Sidonis.  So I don't see how his manner of speaking, his awkwardness and strain, has any bearing on physical attraction in that scene given the context.

He made remarks alluding to physical attraction long before then.

One thing I liked about Thane in my playthroughs is synchronicity.

There is him-the sniper, the target, the well-aligned shot waiting to be fired, the girl who stands in the way of his bullet. The girl refuses to move, he falls in love, the target walks away unharmed.

And then, on the Citadel, there's another sniper, another target, another well-aligned shot waiting to be fired. Another girl stands in the way of the bullet and refuses to move. Thane falls in love (but alas, this time it's unrequited), Sidonis walks away unharmed.

Thane, I hope the irony was not lost on you. And since you're spiritual, I hope you enjoyed how this universe seems to repeat itself in otherwise unrelated events.

When?

On a somewhat unrelated note, I hope the link to the transcript of dr. Michel's love letter gets posted to the frontpage. I wanted to find it before, but could not (I guess I did not try hard enough). It was a worthy read. Please don't stop writing, dear dr Chloe.

For FemShepards, his commentary about his scars and the reach and flexibility conversation both take on a meaning very different then when similar discussions happen with MaleShepards.  The reactions among fans to these scenes when they first played out are evident enough of this allusion.

It's easy to forget that a conversation can be the exact same for a FemShep and a MaleShep but have entirely different meanings, connotations, and effects due to inherent gender differences.  Likewise, MaleShep and FemShep are two entirely different characters - if they were the same, if everything meant the same, then they'd have the same romance options.  But there are fundamental differences between them.

I never noticed the connection between Thane's past and Garrus' present.  That's brilliant writing on behalf of BioWare.  It carries subtlety, but it implies so much when it comes to the Garrus and FemShep romance.

Iirc, I brought Thane and Garrus to the Citadel at the same time to do their Loyalty missions...so...yeah. You pointing this out pretty much just created an "Oh Sh*t" moment.

Garrus is more about removing distractions than convincing him to die for you. They are assuming it's harder for them to fight with issues unresolved that happen to be breaking their concentration. I guess they assume Garrus would be thinking about Sidonis during a time when there are collectors ****ing everywhere and the fate of the galaxy lies within each successful sniper headshot <_<

True, I guess for them, it's not the loyalty, it's the distractions and the resolution of past conflicts.  They can't face death with unresolved baggage.  Shep gets to carry all she wants, however.

Well, Mordin's rejection only happens if you aren't romancing anyone at the time. It does, however, make you miss out on his romantic advice. ;)
