Forums didn't load for me a while ago, edits take ages to show up for me, one of my posts didn't show up in the thread until after a few minutes, I don't like the way the posts are timed, etc. etc.

I guess it's still an interesting situation to look at (friendzone), because it's something that can happen between humans, too. The comic enormousmoonboots posted does seem to be quite similar to the situation, though the guy sounds a lot more manipulative there. Yet that could be what's going on in the turian's mind.

*shrug* Being a guy myself, I saw him as trying to get her into bed...makes perfect sense especially when you consider the context. If they wanted to play that the turian was trying to just get into a relationship with her and not just get her in bed, instead of the Quarian talking about sex with her boyfriend, the quarian could have been talking about just breaking up with her boyfriend.

The Quarian was literally talking about sex when he tried to invite her to watch Fleet and Flotilla (a turian/quarian relationship movie), trying to get a date with her, etc.

I agree completely with boots. He's got those "nice guy" traits written all over him. I highly doubt his intentions are noble. Anyways, yea, it doesn't matter.

Man, I bet punk turians on a turian world would get totally ostracized. Turians have a lot of social freedom, but anti-establishment stuff and F*CK DA POLICE would...probably not be tolerated.

Definitely. The whole strict and rigid society emphasis we get from the Turians seems to suggest that punks wouldn't be humored. In shadier places like Omega, you could get away with it, but on the Turian planets, I doubt they'd get a warm welcome.

To me, it didn't sound like the friendzoned turian was trying to get into the quarian's pants suit. It sounded like he had a crush on her for ages and he was desperate for some romance with her. When she said she would stop dating for a while, he's like "nooooooooooo, don't give up dating, I love you" and proposes to watch a romantic movie (well, Fleet & Flotilla sounded romanic to me ;)) as a date. The quarian just wants to be friends. Well, that's just how I interpreted the con-ver-say-shiun.

One-way love sucks.

Despite being based on something existing, that's actually quite good, Aricle.

Thank you!

As far as the quarian/turian, remember how he was surprised then interested in her suit modifications?

I'm technically a guy, but I think I lack guy-ness, or maybe I'm actively going against it. *looks at self*

I guess it really is quite ambiguous. Turian could be desperate to go out with her, and pressing his chance when the quarian talks about the break-up and why she broke up with him. Maybe he's trying to manipulate to get into bed with him with alcohol and a romantic movie, that depicts what he's going for.

I think the turian was "...What?!" and the quarian started saying "Yeah, I'll show you, come on,". Then again, the turian joined in repelling Shepard and the squad (A little space, please?) rather than trying to excuse himself.

...Damn, Collider's swayed me to see this guy as a sleazy jerk rather than a desperately in love guy.

Just manipulation, I think. I don't think they'd even involve sex if they didn't want to portray the turian as the guy who wants to get into her pants. If they wanted the turian to be the guy who had a crush on her for the longest time, they could have easily had instead the quarian say she broke up with her boyfriend in general.

I'm technically a guy

sorry if I implied you weren't ;(

Just a random thought. I wonder if we'll ever find out what clan or colony Garru's tattoos are from.

I would react the same way if Tali told me about her suit modifications, and I'm not interested in getting her into bed.

Edit: BTW, I liked your Robert Frost adaptation to Mass Effect. It's my favourite poem too :).

Oh, no, you didn't imply I wasn't a guy, it seemed to me at least. I just thought I needed to clarify that I was, in case of confusion. Being honest, I wouldn't really mind being implied I wasn't a guy. Unless you were hitting on me under the illusion I was female.

...+1 to learning more about Garrus in ME3.

Y'know, despite being with two different alien races, this does seem to be quite similar to something you'd see amongst humans, too. Much like the comic enormousmoonboots posted.

...you could ask, but if you were interested in a quarian's sexual stimulation modifications well, yea...you know. As I said, I doubt they'd play up the sexual aspect so much if the turian just wanted to be genuine boyfriend/girlfriend instead of booty call.

@flammie: I was hoping that we get an insight into Garrus' family and background in ME3, especially if you romanced him.

The turian does start off with "...What?! You have something like that..." but then, when the quarian gets annoyed at Shepard and co. the turian then goes "Yeah, go away, I want to continue this conversation," rather than something along the lines of "Y'know, I'd rather not continue with this conversation, may I leave?"

Yeah, a lot could be done with Garrus, romance and non-romance, especially considering it's the last of that trilogy.

I did not think that I'd get to see Tuchanka or the flotilla, so Palaven is a possibility. I hope so.

We need more of an insight into the Turians, I think. Wouldn't mind seeing what female turians look like though. I'd laugh if we went to a Turian colony or planet and everyone is male.

This is actually what I like most about the turians; maybe it's because they're Roman-inspired, but they're pretty damn close to humans. Humans encounter an unknown species screwing with something extremely dangerous? BLOW THEIR ASSES UP. Unknown species gets pissed? BLOW MORE OF THEIR ASSES UP. Diplomacy was never considered during the First Contact War. What if the turians needed to send a probe into unknown space? They could get in trouble for that, you're goddamn right they'll strap a nuke to it. The humans found a piece of a monstrous robot god with a HELL YES cannon? Damn straight they'll sneak it back to their base and reverse-engineer it and not tell anyone!

I usually like my aliens to be alien, but I just kind of love the idea that turians act almost exactly like humans and utterly hate one another for it.

These aliens are human-like in many aspects intentionally, yea. It's easier to relate to them, it's easier to hate them (Saren was a better villain than Sovereign or Harvinger, IMO) and it's easier to like them. Since we're human.

How can we blame that poor turian guy, when from empirical evidence at least it seems like turian females either don't exist or are all lumped together on some planet somewhere?  He needs alternatives 'cause Bioware isn't giving him any turian ladies! ;)

LOL good point. Females of his own kind are so rare, and a man has needs >_>

But seriously, I hope we get to see some female Turians, because the Turians in lore have not provided a reason why female Turians have thus far been rare. For Salarians and Krogans, we've got reasons, but not Turians.

C'mon Bioware, instead of spending time coming up with things like this Bazaar idea, spend the time designing female turians k?? :/

Yeah, and when we're able to visit Palaven in ME3 and I try to talk to a female turian:

"Critical mission failure. You are European, therefore you will not be able to see/talk to female turians. kthxbai."

lol

But seriously, I hope we'll get to lean more about turians in ME3 and visit Palaven. We've been to Tuchanka, visited the Flotilla, we even have an asari justicar on board... we need more turian culture.

And moar Garrus.

Yeah, the contest is nice and all, but it makes me wonder about resources. 60,000$ worth of prizes, at the same time they're developing SW: TOR, a freaking MMO that has more dialog than ME1 and 2 combined? And Garrus calibrates for half the game?

Biowaaare...don't do this to me...

Now, now...don't say Bioware doesn't use their time and resources wisely.  Why, look at all the DLC we got for ME1 when they could have been spending the time on other games and...

...Oh, right.  Sorry.
