I also truly think Garrus is less enigmatic. He reveals more of himself...sure, Thane shows you his emo past and all, but Garrus has more personality, I honestly think.

Although I must confess that I love Thane's outfit. LOL

As someone who wants to get published eventually, fanfic was an excellent way for me to learn about Sues, proofreading, the importance of betas, and what not to write. I learned more from fanfic and sporking communities than I ever did in English classes :P

I don't like Thane's views so that also contributes to me liking Garrus better. I'm much more in agreement with Garrus than I am with Thane.

That post is such a necro post... I know I said Garrus in it, but that's cause... well it's Garrus. both of the romance options though strike cords with different kinds of people.
I like Garrus as my Shep's paramour... I also like Thane, he's a very interesting character. I am also intrigued by his race.
And I love Turians. Love love love...

Yes! That's Li! I

But both have great voices, IMO. (although Garrus's is sexier, IMO) ;)

eta: Silentstephi, do they show more teeth when they're smiling, than not?  Because I like!!
And I wouldn't have pegged Pallin for a smiler--good shot:)

True, both could give great phone smex.
... and this is why I read that awesome damn masskink... -.-

And yea, it seems the flaring of the mandibles to show more teeth usually = a turian smile.  I know those conversations were usually had with something happy.

I think Pallin's was more along the line of "You are so not my problem..."
XD

Yea, both cool voices. Hmm...aside from Asari and the probably the Quarian, all alien races seem to have an archetypal voice or voice effect to them. Salarians have high pitched voices that remind me of the stereotypical geek or nerd. Krogans have really gritty, deep voices. Turians and Drell have that voice effect. Hanar and Elcor speak in monotone. Vorcha speak like they're on crack. Batarians have deeper voices and if I recall a voice effect too. Volus...not sure exactly how to describe them. Kind of like the salarians, I guess.

Vote for your favorite character in this poll. social.bioware.com/1654080/polls/4174/

It doesn't include Tali, because Tali wins like everything.

Why does it amuse me that Tali was left out? Ah well. I mean... I get the rabid fanboy-ness of her fan base... but... really?

Don't tell me there are no rabid garrus fangirls ;) Seriously, all of the major character threads have rabid fanism. Just the way it is. Tali's thread happens to be the largest.

He let it out because Tali will get a disproportionate amount of votes. I voted for Garrus btw.

Well yea. I guess if he's looking for which OTHER character is a favorite... and honestly, if the hardcore talimancers don't vote... then his poll is still win. Because they're favorite is Tali. Sooo there's no issue! XD
Edit:  Needs moar Garrus

Yes Garrus is in the lead now...epic. I wish Mordin and Grunt had more votes though.

I voted for Garrus because he totally deserves it. Best fighter, best looks, and best sense of humor. What's not to love?

I agree with Ray. No kids please. You'd have to stretch the science fiction even more...inter-species offspring seems more akin to the fantasy genre, despite Star Trek. Just have Garrus and Shepard fighting criminals at the end of ME3 or settling down somewhere, IMO. In something inbetween. I don't speak for the garrus romancers though.

I voted for Garrus, but then I felt bad because Morrrrrdin. T_T They're basically tied for me anyway. (I think that should be a compliment to Mordin, man. To reach the same level in my eyes as my favorite love interest in a video game of all time. )

How about adoption or getting surrogate parents? That's a lot more believable. Somehow producing kids when they have completely DNA doesn't even seem feasible. Although I bet Mordin could find a solution XD

However it would be imperative that all the Reapers be eliminated before any talks of kids. It would be completely irresponsible to raise kids in Reaper infested universe =P

As for writing--Everyone's first story is clunky. But you don't get better if you don't write. You learn to write, by writing.

So if you think you might like to write, write something. You don't have to share it if you don't want to, but you'll find out if you like the experience or not.

On Shepard and Sues:

Writing Shepard was a very weird experience for me. It's the first time I tried to keep a character as "blank" as possible, because to make definitive statements about Shepard's first name, skin colour, hair colour, paragon/renegade orientation, vanguard/sentinel/etc orientation....can really jar people out of the story if their version of Shepard is different. I couldn't not mention Shep's gender though....

I did find, though, that there *are* some definitive things that are and are not Shepard. Shepard is tough. Shepard is capable. Shepard is assertive. Shepard is not afraid to use violence when the situation warrants it. Shepard serves a greater good, even if Paragon/Renegade affects the means s/he uses to do it. I looked at Shepard's actions and dialogue in the game, and feel like I was able to do a decent job of giving Shepard a point of view that's different from my own, and giving her some realistic flaws, hereby dodging Mary Sue-ism.

Indeed. They spend a few years just them eliminating all of the worst scum of the galaxy, eventually adopt a couple of badass little orphans along the way or start a little elite, multi-race military school, set up the next generation of pure awesome. Booyah.
