Oh man, these death compilations are depressing.

I can't seem to find one with Garrus getting impaled though. Maybe that's for the best. No need to traumatize myself.

Don't do it. But take my advice and make sure you always run with loyalty/ship upgrades. People not doing it out of curiosity will end up crying themselves to sleep that very night (Garrus fans especially, good god what was I thinking)

Well, I find the death compilations depressing, usually... and I'd have popped a blood vessel in shock if I'd had or seen my poor Garrus get beam squashed (luckily I did all my upgrades and loyalties, so all I saw in my actual game was Missle-to-the-face Thane, because my cat stepped on my mouse at an inopertune moment and there was no "wait, go back!" option :P).. but, I must confess that I have one death comp. bookmarked...
think I've posted it here before but it's the Mr.Clean/John Locke Shep. who manages to do... well basically everything wrong... I know I shouldn't but I always end up laughing when he gives his motivational speech to the whole 1 person left standing to hear it :P At the end I always think if Saren and Sovereign could see it, it would be something like this:

Saren: *facepalm*
Sov.: "I guess I should have picked him to herald in the age of extinction. He's making a great start of it and I'm not even helping!"
Saren: "Just... stop talking to me."
Sov.: "How did he manage to beat us again?"
Saren: "Go...away..."

(for those with macabre interest: www.youtube.com/watch  ... Mr.Clean/Locke's twin, the one without any uber - stains get worse and survival is not an option... oh yeah, go go gadget really bad pep talks :P)

On another related topic, I was just buying fish for renegade maleShep and I remembered that octopus blood is blue (not unlike turian blood). Turns out this is because of hemocyanins, which are copper-based (so I guess Spock's blood should be blue, too?) instead of the iron-based hemoglobins.

Apparently hemocyanins are very popular in nature as a means of transporting oxygen through the bloodstream, for a variety of reasons, but I couldn't find any examples of birds or land-based reptiles in the real world using hemocyanins as a primary means of oxygen transport. I just don't know enough Science! to do more with all this info, but found it fun and thought I'd post it before calling it a night.

That would be because vertebrates are all red-blooded.  Mollusks, crustaceans, arachnids, and insects are all very different from those among us with backbones.

Anyone ever wondered how Mordin even knows that Shepard is seeing someone? I'm trying to picture Garrus approaching Mordin for love advice. Because surely, Mordin will keep it confidential, right?

If I remember right, Mordin tells you that he heard rumors about them if you select the renegade option when he gives you advice.

I'd like to overhear those rumors myself. They'd be comedy gold.

Edited to Add:  Shepard Gets Around (at least around the rumor mill):

Mess Hall Loiterer 1> Psst, hey!  See there?  The Commander?  Yeah, I heard she's into aliens.  Oh man.  Hanging around life support all the time with that drell...

Mess Hall Loiterer 2> Oh yeah?  Interesting.  But maybe it's concern for his health, I mean they say he's dying of some weird disease or another.  He's a bad boy--doesn't Shepard strike you as being into bad boys?  I mean who else is gonna keep up with her?  I heard she was into asari, too.  And she does go to that observation deck where the justicar stays all the time.

Mess Hall Loiterer 3> Ha!  You guys won't believe this, but Kelly told me that the Commander said she'd like to hold that turian and comfort him.  And the other day?  I saw her go into the forward battery and then Vakarian tried to make sure no one was looking and closed up the door.  Now what do you suppose they're doing in there that's so private, huh?

Mess Hall Loiterer 1> Well, you know, I've seen her talking to Jacob, too.  I mean seriously, into a turian?  Maybe that's taking it too far.  That's like, a betrayal of humanity or something.  Yeah, she always walks up to Jacob with this... I don't know.  It's like they're already sleeping together.

Shepard> Sorry to burst your collective bubble, people, but I'm not dating anyone and I don't plan on starting.

Gardener (the mess hell guy, iirc): Hey, Shepard...AH HEARD WAT CHOO SED!

He spread the word by drawing on all the plates such that when they would finish their meal, they would be treated to a crude Turian-on-Human drawing.

He's a real classy guy.

He even remembers to wash his hands... most of the time.

I'm sorry...I just...can't stop laughing at "Shepard gets around" as a title.

I'm actually really surprised that there wasn't any dialogue like that on the Normandy from the crew...I mean...they get all creepy and silent once they're done talking about the flavor of the food, the safety of their family from the Collectors, and surviving the Collector abduction.

So I still don't know why the metaphor "savoring the last shot before popping the heat sink" is horrible. Someone explain to this stupid human? Please? Even if it completely ruins the fun.

My guess? "Frankie says 'relax'."

(Oh God, I'm showing my age there)

In actuality, I think it's a poorly worded metaphor that alludes to foreplay and then intercourse/climaxing.

But don't take my word for it.

[discussions about Dr. Michel's email here]

I fail at life and totally misinterpreted the e-mail.  Posted Image

Seems to me that once the rumors were started, however, that most people seem to think that you were alive the entire time (i.e. Kaidan, your mother (if you play with the Spacer background), Tali, etc.) and simply undercover.  You never really get to talk about it to any of your squadmates except Thane when you do is romance.

actually, I too originally read the email as Michel talking about herself hearing about Shepard's survival, but Tootles FTW after you made your post, I can see how one would read it that she meant "when Garrus heard." TBH I've read it over several times and it's grammatically ambiguous.  Which sucks because I think Tootles' version is much more dramatic....to imagine what would have been going through Garrus' head, especially if he heard the rumor several months before ME2, then he would be wondering if it was misinformation, or why Shepard hadn't contacted him, if she didn't care to adventure with him anymore, etc.

@reptilian rob, I probably shouldn't feed the trolls, but I can't help but say that I don't think Garrus is a loner-type at all, not in the way Samara or Thane is anyway. He focuses intently on things, yes, but he's also friendly and funny, and is very much a "people person" so long as he's around someone he likes.

NEVER EVER go
into the suicide mission without upgrading your ship. Even if you do it
out of morbid curiosity, I will tell you right now, just no.

If
you don't take garrus with you to fight the terminator-eyeball in the
cargo hold, and you happen to take Thane on that fight, Garrus will get
impaled and die horribly under a steel eye-beam crashing through his
chest.

I didnt want to see that. I think I'll go curl up in a corner now. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/crying.png

Yep.  It's awful.  I've made two start-to-finish runs and always save everyone.  My intention on No.2 was originally to let a couple of people die, for variety, to see what happens in ME3.  But I just can't do it, not after seeing the videos on youtube, which are bad enough and it's not even my game.  Plus, it will never not bother me on a really deep level the way squaddies can die...just...so suddenly like that.  It sucks for all of them, but especially for longtime buddies like Garrus or Tali.  I've griped about this before but I really really don't like how the most you get out of that is Shep looking sadly at a coffin for 2 seconds.  The strange result is that I would actually be MORE likely to just let events take their course and let a few people die, if they got proper send offs.  I know that's cheesier and less "realistic", but this isn't exactly a hyperrealistic experience to begin with.  It's space operaReal opera deaths take upwards of 20 minutes, lol, and I'm not even asking for that.  Unless it was Mordin singing of course.

*comfort* It was all just a nightmare. Garrus is still alive and well (in my bed)!

I just had a thought. I wonder if the fortune cookie "in bed" RL meme would work with Garrus lines?  "So much for godhood....in bed."  "NEVER SAW ME COMIN'!.....in bed."    "Right behind you..." OK these are getting silly.

Still more to read but this is getting  big so I'll post now :D

EDIT: for coherency

And oh geeze.  I don't think romantic interests are either paragon or renegade.  You choose which they are by how you direct that character to behave.  Although it's possible that Garrus turns into the next Saren by ME3.  All through his loyalty quest I kept thinking, "There should be dialogue to tell Garrus that he is sounding more and more like Saren.  Is that what he wants to become?"

Yeah, especially considering he says in ME1 that one reason his father disapproved of his choices was that he "didn't want him to become like Saren."

So theoretically both COULD become like Saren.

... Ya'know, the mental image of Garrus wearing black and blue version of the concept*Saren's robes is actually kinda cool.

I am highly amused by the image of a Renegade human and turian uniting to save the galaxy.

DAAAAHAHAHAHAA oh my god:lol:

(When I first read that I didn't catch the word "parody" so I was expecting to see the same old brother and sister thing again.  Then it loaded. OH. MY. SWEET BUTTERY GOODNESS.)

Edit: NO, SERIOUSLY.  That is the best thing that has happened to me all week.  The CSI thing at the end killed me.  KILLED ME. I am dead. I am dead right now. XD

Very good points guys. There's a chance that everyone who starts to encourage him along this path will turn him into a very dark unlike-garrus figure by #3. I mean Saren turned 'bad' because he couldn't get over the death of his brother during the first contact war, right? And here's Garrus with his Sidnois incident.. If you don't calm him down and change his views, you could very well fuel his downward spiral into the same mean/evil figure Saren turned into.

More reason for everyone to just forgive Sidonis. It's worth it anyway, especially if you really care about Garrus as a person. Killing Sidonis doesn't bring closure as much as it pushes him towards Sarens dark uncaring unforgiving mindset.

Eh...I doubt this a little, mostly because the renegade players tend to **** (rightfully, I might add) when their choices have a severe negative affect on the gameplay.

Besides, I know that there's a very thin line between vigiliante and villian, but I can't help but feel Garrus has a stronger moral center than that.  He can get pretty dark, but I think it would take a hugely significant event, bigger than Sidonis, to get him thoroughly into that area.

That being said, I wouldn't mind if it happened.  It'd be a great way for our choices to affect the story. (And I got nothin' to worry about since I never let him take that shot. )

Well, the thing is, the seemingly moral choices in the game are actually Renegade. Allowing the rachni to live = Renegade. Putting Anderson on the Council = Renegade.... Blowing up the collector base = Renegade (IIRC).

All of which, I did. Garrus can rock his cowboy morals all he wants.
