[discussions about Dr. Michel's email here]
I fail at life and totally misinterpreted the e-mail.
Seems to me that once the rumors were started, however, that most people seem to think that you were alive the entire time (i.e. Kaidan, your mother (if you play with the Spacer background), Tali, etc.) and simply undercover. You never really get to talk about it to any of your squadmates except Thane when you do is romance.
actually, I too originally read the email as Michel talking about
herself hearing about Shepard's survival, but Tootles FTW after you made your post, I can see how one would read it that she meant "when Garrus heard." TBH I've read it over several times and it's grammatically ambiguous. Which sucks because I think Tootles' version is much more dramatic....to imagine what would have been going through Garrus' head, especially if he heard the rumor several months before ME2, then he would be wondering if it was misinformation, or why Shepard hadn't contacted him, if she didn't care to adventure with him anymore, etc.
@reptilian rob, I probably shouldn't feed the trolls, but I can't help but say that I don't think Garrus is a loner-type at all, not in the way Samara or Thane is anyway. He focuses intently on things, yes, but he's also friendly and funny, and is very much a "people person" so long as he's around someone he likes.

Wow.. I.. wow.. I think I am scarred for life.
NEVER EVER go
into the suicide mission without upgrading your ship. Even if you do it
out of morbid curiosity, I will tell you right now, just no.
If
you don't take garrus with you to fight the terminator-eyeball in the
cargo hold, and you happen to take Thane on that fight, Garrus will get
impaled and die horribly under a steel eye-beam crashing through his
chest.
I didnt want to see that. I think I'll go curl up in a corner now. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/crying.png
Yep. It's awful. I've made two start-to-finish runs and always save everyone. My intention on No.2 was originally to let a couple of people die, for variety, to see what happens in ME3. But I just can't do it, not after seeing the videos on youtube, which are bad enough and it's not even my game. Plus, it will never not bother me on a really deep level the way squaddies can die...just...so
suddenly like that. It sucks for all of them, but especially for longtime buddies like Garrus or Tali. I've griped about this before but I really really don't like how the most you get out of that is Shep looking sadly at a coffin for 2 seconds. The strange result is that I would actually be MORE likely to just let events take their course and let a few people die, if they got proper send offs. I know that's cheesier and less "realistic", but this isn't exactly a hyperrealistic experience to begin with. It's space
opera.
Real opera deaths take upwards of 20 minutes, lol, and I'm not even asking for that. Unless it was Mordin singing of course.

*comfort* It was all just a nightmare. Garrus is still alive and well (in my bed)!
I just had a thought. I wonder if the fortune cookie "in bed" RL meme would work with Garrus lines? "So much for godhood....in bed." "NEVER SAW ME COMIN'!.....in bed." "Right behind you..." OK these are getting silly.
Still more to read but this is getting big so I'll post now

EDIT: for coherency
