Hyrule_Gal had it right all those pages ago: Shepard and Garrus banter with each other through out the relationship like good friends do. If anyone who wasn't Shepard or Garrus was in the room listening to them, they wouldn't have the faintest idea what they're talking about. "Reach and Flexibility? Tiebreaker? What?" and it would look incredibly superficial to people outside of the exchange. I think Shepard saying that line means she's misinterpreting Garrus' intentions. It's quite clear that when Shepard says this that Garrus is not, in fact, taking this relationship with her lightly given his reactions of averting his eyes, hanging his head, etc.

It's weird how breaking up with him actually confirms how much he really cares about Shepard, non-verbally.

Great points, Umanix. I usually can't stomach the cliches, so I don't read into Shepard's rejection line. Now that you phrased it this way, it makes a whole lot more sense.

Excellent synopsis/interpretation was excellent.  Every time somebody rehashes/reinterprets one of these kinds of scenes, I see something brought into focus a little more than before.

Unless I go to excessive lengths to flirt with Kelly to get her to feed my fish. But that would be taking advantage of her, and I'm a Paragon. I don't use people. I let them use me for all sorts of trivial matters, be it picking up packages or helping an asari get back together with her krogan boyfriend.

Mordin: Shepard, am writing a paper on cross species intercourse. Need tissue samples. So next time Garrus visits, could you please collect --

*Shepard glitches and ends up floating up a few metres, her head being stuck in the ceiling*

Garrus: Well, I'll leave you to it. Do what you do best.

*Shepard's legs start flailing around*

And the callibrations thing? Even if they aren't dating, she's his commanding officer, surely she trumps callibrations?

And what's more, he even says, "Can it wait for a bit?" Heck no it can't! But they don't let Shep say so. So why did they have him say that! grrr

Alright, since we're not fond of the calibrations comment, but I don't think Bioware can make it possible for there to not be an intermission line, what would we have preferred?

I would have minded the calibrations comment a lot less if they gave Garrus a few extra things to say and rotate them. Like in that bachelor party there were about 8 comments before the whole thing started repeating, so why not throw in about 3 more lines--I don't know, something like, "This algorithm is off...if it's not fixed immediately, it could get really screwed up" (or whatever, haha, there's a reason I'm not a dialogue writer for games). What I mean is, even something like that could have prevented the calibration thing from becoming its own unintentional (and frustrating) running joke.

I wish all of the characters had a few lines that recycle when they can't talk to you, like Mordin. His were funny, too.

Yeah, everything before the last scene was vague. For instance, a person could regard Kasumi's comment as an unfortunate dent in their friendship. In real-life, sexual encounters do affect the platonic bond between friends if it goes badly. 

Yeah but, er, Garrus and Shepard never have sex before the "break-up" (breaking up with him after the suicide mission doesn't really count since his dialogue is stuck in the pre-consummation phase). I highly doubt their friendship could be dented by something that never even took place. It would be weird even for Kasumi to comment about something like that. It's not a big deal at all.

I think it's more so that Garrus put all that effort for preparing only to get turned down. I've only seen part of the romance, but from what I've read in this thread he clearly gets disappointed if turned down.
