I just can't do mean things to people in games--well, most of the time. At least not to the nice people. I'm a big wuss that way. It makes me feel bad in real life, and who needs that?

Me neither.

But I just can't stop using Overload and Incinerate on Pyros all the time.

Burn, baby, burn!

You were clearly mever a Sims player, then. :P

But I can't even reject Gar as an experiament. I had to be a wuss and youtube it. Jacob is the only one I've rejected for reals ingame. And that whole romance was non-cannon for my FemShep. lol

I'd be interested to see how rejecting an LI at the last minute affects your relationship with them in ME3. Knowing Bioware, there'll be no carry over, but it'd be nice to see the consequence of that.
I reckon Garrus would pretty much stop talking to you properly, save about things directly related to the sucess of the mission.

I don't have qualms about being "mean" to someone in the game. It's when I've had Shepard lead them on that I feel the guilt (a la Jacob and Thane when I was curious for their "getting dumped" lines.)

Otherwise, Shep's a hard ass. Except when she likes you. Or respects you. Then again, she can be a hard ass to those she respects... it's part of her charm. ;)

ETA:  Wow, I go away for a day and it's like almost 10 more pages.
Wheeeeee!

I had to watch the "dump Garrus" bit on youtube because I couldn't make myself do it in-game.

...holy crap, he loves her. She's just led him along and then slammed him down hard after his very best efforts to charm her, and what does he have to say? "I'll be there if you need me." And you know he *will*, even if it's killing him inside to do it.

Personally, I think he loved her all along and just explained it away as "best friends" and "devotion to my Commander" and stuff because they were different species and cross-species intercourse never crossed his mind. You notice that when she brings it up, it takes him a little to get his mind around the idea but he doesn't come anywhere close to saying no. It's more like "oh, can we?" like he never thought of it before, but he likes the sound of it...

Enh, I rejected Liara and was generally a jerk to her on my second playthrough and she still ended up giving me a great big hug upon meeting her in ME2. Made me feel kind of guilty actually.
Usually though I hate disappointing characters I have no intention of romancing. I'm always afraid of leading them on when talking to them, so my uber-paragon shep ends up taking the good-neutral approach. This is in response to inexplicably having Liara jump me before heading to Ilos, when I had thought I was only being a nice person.
Happened in DA:O too, I'd flirted with Alister for a couple of conversations only to have him suddenly give me a rose and swear his undying love for me, rejecting him was like kicking a puppy. Image IPB

@Turian dance video: Image IPB That's awesome, he's dancing exactly like the human women do, I wish Shepard was able to dance, awkward shuffling doesn't count.
I love that Shepard is all distracted watching the Turian when she's supposed to be paying attention to Thane.
Thane: What's he doing Shepard?
Shep: He's...dancing
Thane: Wait...what?

This is a very well-written post, and I agree.
However, I know I am no longer qualified to be objective enough to accurately judge the state of Garrus's feelings...I just want so much for him to love her, so that's how he feels.  I wonder how everyone else who is not totally obsessed with Garrus would see it. :P

I understand how you feel. I was on the Garrus thread during the wait for ME2 and we weren't sure if he was actually going to be a romance this time around. When I found out that he was in fact an option I built it up in my mind so much that I was imagining mushy declarations of love and marriage proposals. Then I saw the actual romance and was disappointed. However I now realize that this fits so much more naturally. The great banter that Garrus and Shepard have is what drew me to them in the first place, a hearts and flowers romance would have felt odd. As for the lovers vs friends thing, they have to save some stuff for ME3. A reevaluation of what exactly Shepard means to him would be a really beautiful and poignant next step for Garrus to take. Plus, think of all the lovely awkwardness that would ensue once he realizes that he wants to be more than "friends with benefits". Image IPB

I'm really glad I resisted the powerful desire to read these message boards between 1 and 2. I only hope I'm strong enough to do that between 2 and 3!

This. I think it's true. Especially after hearing Kasumi's "Garrus really likes you, a lot of people want to see you together." comment, I thought that he wanted to be more than friends with her. I mean, why would you look for mood music (how bad it might be), buy wine, wear a (probably uncomfortable) suit, try some awkward pick-up lines, and generally try to make your night together a bit romantic if you think it's just going to be..well, blowing off steam?

Oh well, I'll just have to wait and see in ME3. In the meantime, I'll go play ME2 some more... B)

From an objective standpoint, it's very debatable. Their non-verbal exchanges are subjected to multiple interpretations, and that would all be technically correct until Bioware lays down the law.

But, from a fangirl's standpoint (back to '07), I totally see it. :o I was hoping for something like this!  How cute would that be when Garrus finally explains his affection for Shepard?

Haha. They should call it the "Garrus Effect". Warning: Squeeing and bouts of giggling may ensue within close quarters of your Turian comrade. Proceed with all caution.
The Aimo fanart isn't helping in curing the fangirlism either.

You know, I never watched Firefly before I saw that one...and after, I decided to watch the whole series.  Aimo = a force to be reckoned with.
(and my mom said the show was great)

Oh heck yes... paring Garrus up with Mal was just so much epic win I'm surprised it wasn't a 'divide by zero' moment. I mean.... lord, I died laughing. Esp his last comment. "SHINY"

I love Aimo's art. She makes me giggle every time. <3

Good for you! Firefly is an awesome but unfortunately under-appreciated series, and some of the best sci-fi out there. Did you know that Jayne's voice actor plays Kal'reegar?
It's interesting how Aimo put Garrus in a Mal costume and Shepard in a Zoe costume, whereas I have a paragade Femshep who acts kind of like Mal with Garrus as her second in command.
