'Course, you could just use the ME2 love interest for a quick fling and dump them. Then you're cheating. You bastard.

I believe Bioware used the word "cheating." Technically, with Liara you never really broke apart. Bioware said there will consequences for "cheating" in ME3. I'm not sure what that is, maybe it means that you cannot continue the romance with ME1 love interests (even though you kind of broke up...?) considering how Bioware said that those who are faithful are rewarded.Pacifien wrote...
Also, I wish people would let go of the "cheating" label. The ME1 love interest still cares for you, you may still care for them, but sometimes relationships don't work out when both parties move in separate directions. It's a breakup unless you decide to fight to make it work in ME3. That's why I don't see a big confrontation in ME3: either you've decided to make it work or you've both agreed to let it go.
'Course, you could just use the ME2 love interest for a quick fling and dump them. Then you're cheating. You bastard.

I'm having issues choosing between garrus and thane for my main femshep. Garrus thread, please give me positives points for Garrus.
Notice, I didn't say negatives about Thane. Thank you for the help
Garrus and Shepard have come a long way together, and of all her former squad, Garrus is the one person who signs up immediatly when she asks him to (OK, he has nowhere else to go. But even so...) They already have a strong working relationship, and it grows into a deep friendship built on mutual trust and respect (I see ME1 Garrus as looking up to Shepard as a sort of mentor. By ME2, 2 years have passed and now they are equals), and the romance which develops from that shows how deeply he cares for her. ('Friends with benefits' they may have thought they were goign to be, but by the time Garrus goes to her room with wine and music, he's clearly given it a lot more thought, and knows he wants more).
Shepard is just about the only good thing Garrus has left in his life, be it as friend or lover, but this is partly because she is the only good thing he allows himself to have (he could have friends: other people clearly care for him as shown byu emails, but he takes the burdens of the universe on himself.) This shows an incredible amount of trust. I think, for his part, Garrus is the person who can most closly relate with Shep on the burdens of leading a squad like that, only for her, the stakes are higher.) I know these sound like almost negatives, but I think it speaks to showing how the relationship goes far beyond sex or simple attraction. She completes him, in a way.
Garrus brings wine and stripper music to her room, and compliments her hair (nice) and waist (very supportive). He is clealry goign to great lengths to 'do things right'. This shows consideration and attention to detail (very important in a lover!) The fact that he gets it ever so slightly wrong is nothing against him: the fact is he's willing to try (and she can help him get better). And did I mention that the wine was the best he could afford? He gives his lady the finer things in life! (Champaigne, according to Kasumi...)
Can you see Shepard, ANY Shepard, settling down to grow old on some planet somewhere? I can't. I think She'll be out in the galaxy fighting for her beliefs until the day she dies, gun in hand. And Garrus will be right there beside her. Neither of these two are ever going to live the civillian life, and if they go out, they'll go out together.
Did I mention his voice? You'd do anything for that voice.
Liquid sugar.
He has reach, she has flexibility. Together, they are awesome!
Men with scars are sexy.
...I somehow think that might be enough to get started with. lol. I could go on for days. (you may have opened a can of worms with this request, epoch_. I expect thread explosion!)
EDIT:

I'm usually leaning garrus, because of the trust thing as you guys both pointed out. Garrus just has so little dialogue though. Its a damn shame. Best character in the game and he has like 1 good conversation with you after his mission.
Yes. I also lament this. But I think a lot of what happens between Shep and Garrus is unspoken. They just get each other like that (see above friendship/trust/history thing)

Just done all the beginning stuff, and I'm screwing all the advice and going straight for Archangel. Gotta get me some turian right away. And I'm going to be able to romance him. *squee*

Dunno whether the SMG is actually worth it. Seems the heavy pistol is a lot better. I thought I'd use the SMG as the main weapon, but it's not very accurate, actually.
I've also managed to understand everything so much more than when I first played ME2, because this time I already played ME1. Now I actually knew what geth were, who Saren was, knew Cerberus were no good, know the wonder that is turian and Garrus (yeah, I know, I didn't actually know that at first ¬.¬)
...Anyway, I'm just droning. Garrus.
I can't really say much about Garrus that hasn't been said already.
He's a good friend, he's a turian, he's been through thick and thin
with Shepard, their relationship is constantly growing, and he's really adorable. Also, this is a little subjective, but he's hawt.
Excellent explanation, janeym27. If I didn't want to romance Garrus (*gasp* I said that in this thread!) I'd definitely want to, now. Now it just makes me want him more.
...

Yes, I repeated that. In the same post.

I will be doing a Thane romance PT eventually, too. (I suffered through Jacob's for science, after all.) I can give a report on that one when I get around to it.
I just finished my Thane romance playthrough, and I have to say the romance is written really well. It doesn't go straight into "OMG I WANT YOU" territory and it's very touching. I'm still going to do an UglyShep playthrough where I romance Jacob. FOR SCIENCE!
I'll probably import both my Thane and Garrus romance playthroughs into ME3.

I've seen it so many times from her too, and yet I don't have any urges... at least, I don't... think.
And... Jacob interrupted and killed Harbinger. He's a threat larger than any Reaper.
Trying to get this in somehow, have an urge to post it. Maybe it'd be how Kaidan reacts to cheating. No idea who would be Ion. Shepard? Or maybe it'd be how we'd react if Garrus isn't in ME3.

Tried to catch up on the last 30 pages. (THIRTY PAGES YA'LL. Oh Garrus Thread, you so crazy.) Made it only to 360 or so. Meeeh. It was far enough to see that squad motivational poster, and that was pretty much enough to make my whole day, so.

I'm not even going to bother wish jacob. ha.
You know guys, I have been thinking about Jacob a lot. (Him and Miranda, actually. There's so much tension there, it's gotta be happening. If I could write, I would write it. I'm trying to talk myself into giving it a try anyway. Lack of writing ability doesn't seem to stop people on the internet)
Anyway, I decided when I finally get another XBOX I am totally going to romance Jacob. Really. Lately I feel like the poor man is getting a lot more **** than he deserves; he's a stand-up, straightforward guy who cares about how Shepard feels. (Besides, it would give me some insight on how a Jacob/Miranda thing would go down. Hum de dum.)
Um...IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS POST GARRUS RELATED, AND THEREFORE NOT POINTLESS: This weekend I dropped a Garrus reference: I bought a ****ty bottle of wine and told some classmates, "Heeeey, I brought wine." Of course, no one understood it but it made me giggle.

Garrus: Stick 'em up, Thane.
