WRT: Renegade/Paragon choices--my friend always complains to me that, the way Paragon and Renegade are defined (Paragon is by-the-book military officer, Renegade is rulebreaker who gets the job done at any cost), some choices *should* be swapped; everything in career soldier Shepard's training would tell her to kill the rachni queen right off, for example. Much like Jade Empire, alignment ultimately got kind of dumbed down to flat-out good/evil, which is...annoying. It should be more like Lawful/Chaotic, and even then, I would consider it a Lawful decision to kill the rachni queen, since even in the second game you have no way of verifying anything she tells you.

My definition of Paragon has always been making the choices that are most just, basically ultimately good in all their decision making. I was never under the impression that it was strictly related to by-the-book military officer. A civilian can still be Paragon if their choices or made on a foundation of doing what's right and making sound moral choices - not limited to or exempt from any one thing or species, which is why saving the Rachni Queen is the Paragon route, because you are giving her a chance to survive peacefully where before the Rachni were only thought of as monsters/villains. A choice like that could backfire obviously, but with anyone trying to do good...you are often putting yourself at the risk of betrayal in order to give others a fair chance because you can't judge who does and doesn't deserve it - at least not until proven otherwise, but that often times doesn't come until after the fact.

A lot of times it does get dumbed down to good/evil though and I agree that some choices should really be reversed. Sometimes what is considered a Renegade choice really doesn't have to be, but it would depend on the person - some would make a Renegade choice, by BioWare's standards in their games, without any actual Renegade intentions in a real life situation.Trying to cover the wide scope of opinions and/or possible choices any individual might make in all the many circumstances of the ME Universe would be impossible, so BioWare has to dumb it down to something I suppose.

EDIT* Damn sentences that don't read right.

I just make different Shepards for different romances. xD If I played through the Garrus romance with anyone except Shepard #2 (and her clone), it would almost be like he was cheating on her.
It's good to know I'm not the only one who doesn't have any DLC. It would be nice if everyone could just buy the DLC in disk-form like the expansion packs... that's what I would want, anyway. :)

I'll have two years to do this. ;)  I'll probably leave my triangle Shep alone, I've already got the dedicated Kaiden Shep.  IF I like the Thane and Jacob romances, I'll make two more Sheps to carry forward.  AND I'll make one just for Garrus.

What's really sad is that before our 360 died this past time, I had more than enough completed Sheps to do this already.  *whimper*

Thank God for Best Buy's replacement policy.

It'll probably take me two years to play all of the Shepards I planned out too. xD I only bought ME1 a couple months before the second came out, and finished a quick second playthrough with a female Shepard when I read about the Garrus romance.

That is the reason why I never download anything or use Xbox-Live... I've had bad luck with computers and the internet, so there's no way I'd connect it to my game system. D: I have no idea if that's related to any problems with the 360 (or other game systems), but I'm not taking any chances.

Oh, this had nothing to do with downloads.  We've had power fluctuations since Ike (I'm in Houston) because they gerry rigged our power grid.  One too many power surges and not even a surge protector can help.  The graphics card in it fried.  At least, that's what we THINK happened.  For all we know, it was just its time.

And if I can just not set myself up for more triangles....

Edit to add: This was posted in another thread. I warn you, it's NSFW, but it is hilarious. It's a parody of something a really awful older brother did to his little sister. That's sibling justice!

EPIC WIN! I loved the original and I love this one. And I do agree with Jane Shepard that Kelly was the one responsible for the scale itch.

My god, why haven't i joined the bioware forums sooner =/. I was all cooped up in the bungie forums with nothing interesting to read.

I'm gonna post the full WIP in my scraps over on FA later.

Anyhow, some stuff came up this evening (not anything bad), but I'll update the OP before I go into work tomorrow afternoon. =]

I know what you mean. 6 days. 7 playthroughs. Every one of them Garrus. I kind of feel like I ruined the game for myself playing it that much, but it was just so damn fun! I will literally eat up any DLC, free or not, just for a chance to return to that world :/

Holy guacamole. 7 playthroughs in 6 days? I know there are lots of people who go through games realllllllly fast like that (and this is in no way a criticism I'm just amazed) but...wow.  I'm not sure I could do that even if I didn't have work, school, friends, hobbies, basic needs like sleep....  (ok again that sounds like I'm trying to insult people who finish games fast but that's not what I'm implying...I'm just trying to say ...I guess...that I can't imagine having that much time or being able to beat them that quickly).
How does one go through game like ME2 that quickly? I mean sure the later playthroughs will be quicker especially if you aren't doing side missions or delving into dialogue trees for every convo, but my first playthrough is like 40 hours logged.  I guess I just take my time with games, I never understood why people rush through them.  With games like ME I have to explore every corner, talk to every person.  When I arrive in a beautiful new level for the first time, Illium for example, I just stand and look around for a moment.  Just feels like that's what I paid my 60 bucks for.  And if you are actually thorough like that (do all missions, all NPC quests, always "investigate" dialogue), you have no choice but to log at least 30 hours on a playthrough.  Of course, I am not as expert at shooter combat as some, so that explains some of the extra time.  But wow.

Really, I understand. I'm a student, so I have a ton of free time, and I just kept myself awake on caffeine and other such stimulants, only sleeping when needed (see: in class).

But, yeah. I played the **** out of it in the first week. So addicted. :D

First playthrough I really felt like I explored. Listened to all the dialogue. Thought about my decisions. Took me about 20 hours.

Second playthrough switched it up, went renegade instead of paragon. Lot more dialogue to explore, but I x'd through the repetitive stuff. Took about 16 hours.

All the others were just random explorations and stuff. Every playthrough except the first had all crew member survive the suicide mission. Miranda died on the first because I didn't have high enough paragon points to charm her and Jack's fight. Did their loyalties right after one another :(

The only thing I find frustrating about this game is explaining why I, as a male, like playing Femshep. I realize it's a game, and it's not like I'm making this a self-insert character. I just chose FemShep at a whim to be a special snowflake in ME1, and it's the character I imported every time (with variations to face and class and such) in ME2. She's the character for me, and I don't want her to be lonely, so she stuck with Garrus.

But, yeah. I'll definitely slow down a bit in ME3. I enjoyed the hell out of ME2, and didn't feel like I rushed. But, I think I'll pace myself next time.

I'm a really hyper-productive person. Put me to work on a project and I won't sleep until it's done. But, on the flipside, I can't control my leisure time.  I start playing a game and suddenly it's nine hours later : (.

It's cool though, I can acknowledge my flaws.

Gurrus is no doubt my favorite character and was my first pick for leading the 2nd firesquad.

I'm not really sure why I like him since he sometimes feels pretty bland compared to the other NPCs. But I guess it is probably because his character is very much like my own.
A thinker that stays in the background. Strives for justice. Open minded. Prefer silence to smalltalk. Calm and sensible.

At the end of the mass effect bubble part of the suice mission (I think), he took a bullet in the stomach. For a moment, I thought he recieved a lethal hit, and I remember my heart sank in an instant right there :)
Amazing how that can happen in a video game...

No, letting the rachni queen go was the paragon choice, dumping a tank full of acid on her while she was helpless was renegade. Anderson was also the paragon choice, though it didn't mean much since you have to pick who presides on the Council at the beginning of this game anyway. And blowing up the collector base was the paragon ending, giving it to Cerberus is renegade.

This makes me wonder... Did anyone have their Shepards choose the "wrong" options when Miranda and Jacob are questioning Shepard about his/her past and the events of ME1? Now I'm curious if they'll think Shepard is going crazy or they messed up on the Lazarus Project. xD

I never elected Udina for the Council at the end of ME1, but in my renegade playthrough I thought "what the hell, let me see if it makes a difference" and told Miranda I had picked him.  They acted as though it had always been like that, and at the Citadel there was Udina...being Udina.  I don't really know why they let you alter that decision at the start of the game and not others - it's a bit weird.  They might as well throw in the possibilty of changing who died at Virmire while you're at it, since it makes just as much sense.

Because Shepard wants to change Council members, that automatically alters the past to make it so? xD That's strange. I won't pick that option expecting funny dialogue then. It would have been nice if they had thought Shepard was crazy - some of my Shepards would have done it just for laughs.

I only have one Shepard who put Udina on the Council, and that was my evil Shepard who only did so in hopes that he would get another option to kill them off again along with Udina. (Evil Shepard has some very complicated plans to use/get rid of people... I can't wait to see how ME3 plays out for him.)

Wow, I've never heard that one before. o.o; I think about half of the problems I've read about involve either downloads or system updates (updates for the PS3, at least), and the rest was random stuff like leaving the system on or plugged in to long possibly causing it to overheat. Luckily, I haven't had any problems yet. I got worried one time when DA:O froze though. D:

Unfortunately in my renegade ME1 import save I killed the Council, so I don't know.  It didn't change how Udina reacts to you, though, and Anderson is still the one you meet up with at the Citadel before Udina comes stomping in.

It would have been all kinds of awesome if you could "fail" your memory test with Miranda.  I also thought it was a wasted opportunity when Jacob asks about why you left Ash/Kaidan on Virmire - for me (who left Ash behind) I wanted to respond with a "I hated that ****".

Edit: @ Xaila - AMAZING!!!! Posted Image  Where is that dialogue even from??

In my faithful run for Kaiden, I saved the council.

BOY am I regretting it. /facepalm

I was trying to get as many stories out of the way as I could, and honestly, I prefer the human council.

Though I guess you miss the "Ah yes, 'Reapers'" if you DON'T save them. /sigh

And alas, DVD drive is being a butt, so no Win7 tonight. But still! 1.5TB of shiny new hard drive that I get to molest with all my game vids! Hooray!

I am still pissed that Udina's the "default" choice for a Shepard that you don't import (as far as I can remember, anyway). Who in their right mind would choose Udina? Even renegade points aren't worth that. The guy's an ass and a traitor. You know what, Udina, I'll give you a political ****storm. I'll flaunt my turian boyfriend in front of Khalisah Al-Jilani and punch her. Again. *grumble grumble glare mumble grumble growl*

I'm bordering on 11pm+sickness+antihistamine delirium, but as I am right now, I think that's the sweetest thing I've read in the last two threads of this, including Garrus' sugary, ah, fluids. FemShep feels honored, I'm sure, and as a Garrus fan, I'm glad you didn't balk at the idea of pairing your Shepard with Garrus (whereas some people go, "OH EW ALIEN ISN'T IT ENOUGH THAT I'M PLAYING A FEMALE?"). *thumbs up*

My main Shepard wanted to say something like that about Ashley, but since they don't have that option, I chose the one that made it sound like she just regrets needing to leave a soldier behind. She's the type that always tries to save everyone (War Hero background), so it fit her personality well enough. Obviously, she wasn't nearly as upset about losing Ashley as she was about "failing" her mission and losing Saren. xD

@Sialater:

Shepard: Ashley knows nothing. You kiss turians on both cheeks.
