I don't care how they do it.  Any Garrus at that con will be mine.

D'awwwww he is a good man.

Well, I lay down for a quick nap and gotta catch up :P.  I don't begrudge them either, and genuinely feel sorry for the Ashley/Kaidan fans, it's just when that love for X LI turns into hate for X LI just because one is available in ME2 and the other isn't.. that's annoying. While Garrus/Tali were 'okay' in ME1 to some folks, they're now 'useless' and 'annoying' simply because their fans were rewarded. If so-and-so genuinely didn't like Garrus in ME1, I wouldn't care (it's the same with Liara and me), but throwing a tantrum about the ME2 LIs because the ME1 LIs didn't get much screen time? Blegh.

And just to put in more Garrus (yes, I'm geeky for liking Caramelldansen):

Gosh, Garrus has some nice gams in that pic.

It bums me out to read people wishing bad things on the ME2 characters as well.  I hope they let go of that bitterness when the ME1 LIs inevitably come back and the ME2 LIs hopefully do as well.

ZOMG!  I've been looking for that picture forever!  I love Garrus's epic hips.  I would kill for either his or Tali's hips.

See, that's what I don't get either, and I am speaking as someone who has so far only be interested in romancing one character. (It's like me trying not to romance Alistair in DAO. It's too hard not to.) I have been jealous of the love and attention that people get with their ME2 LI, but I don't hate on the characters for that. I just wish the developers would give me more to work with than the comments made prior to the release of ME2.

For what it's worth, I hope they give you girls an awesome payoff for your romance with Garrus.

Yeah, it's a tough pill to swallow. I guess they must be planning a really decent payoff for the ME1 LIs and that's why they won't let them just accidentally die in the second game. I don't know. We'll have to see what they have planned, but I'm pretty optimistic for you guys. It's easier for me to cut them slack when they've been giving me what I wanted, but I think that's something that Bioware does best--listening and giving people what they want.

I was upset for quite a while pre-release over what they were doing with the ME1 LI's.  No, I never romanced anyone in ME1, on any of my playthroughs, but it just wasn't right.  People had taken a "wait and see," and "cameos aren't that bad," approach, but I had kind of read between the lines with what BW was saying, so I wasn't too surprised at the lack of presence for the ME1 squad...even though I had a  huge "WTF" moment on Horizon.

So...I definitely empathize with people who preferred Ash/Kai/Lia and got...well...those cameos.  I'd go so far to say that the Ash/Kai fans got the worst shaft, because the nature of the horizon cameo was so bad. =/ Granted, I don't understand the hate against Garrus or any of the other LI's.  Garrus didn't take away Ash/Kai/Lia, BW did...and hating on another LI isn't going to change it and it certainly isn't the right target for disgruntlement.

Best one can do is to keep encouraging BW to write these characters back into ME3 with far more significance and/or interaction.  Actually, I recommend everyone do that for their beloved character(s).  While I'm optimistic that BW will not pull another move like what they did in ME2 for ME3, I think it safe to say to keep up the call to make all these characters significant and to design them with more potential player-interactions.

Say, is there any fanart of Garrus battling his evil twin brother, Barrus?

On the note of ME3...that giant fracking fleet of Reapers. I just did the math, if you assume that the "dead" Reaper is one of the first ones and that they did their extinction rounds once every 50,000 years and created one new Reaper during each extinction round, there are about 740 Reapers (give or take a few) waiting to rip Shepard apart.

I think Garrus is gonna need more heat sinks.

Maybe I'm just waiting to get my rose-colored Pollyanna glasses slapped off my face, but if you look at the foreshadowing and the story structure, it just makes sense to me that the ME1 LIs were set aside.  Sure they could have probably done it a lot more gracefully--given you more communication with them or something.  Hopefully they've taken notes from the disappointment it's brought up.  But I think that if they wanted the romance B plots to be able to have a strong beginning and conclusion, keeping the ME1 LIs from dying is a more efficient use of resources.  If they have some dramatic finales planned, it would be nice if most people could actually be able to play through them rather than having the relationships you've already settled into fizzle out with some filler in the middle of the story and then having them die.  As it is, the ME1s have a dramatic falling in love sequence, and they will have a dramatic conclusion.

But then a lot of this premise does call into doubt the fate of the ME2 LIs.  SIGH.

Horizon was torture for me during my first playthrough of ME2. I had gotten to Horizon and gotten yelled at by Kaidan and then got in a car to go out of town for two days. The BF had to listen to me complain all the way to Atlanta. Image IPB

But Garrus was a good friend and tried to yell at Alenko for me during that scene. Image IPB

I've always been a propenent of letting the player make choices and then living with the consequences.  I felt it would have been better to include them and then if they died, they died, and if they lived then "yay!" :P BW disagreed and wrote it the way they did, for reasons we can only as-yet speculate.  I do hope they return in full force, and hopefully not at the expense of any other characters.  I do agree with you that at least they'll 100% survive for ME3, no matter what, so there's a silver lining...I just wish BW hadn't written it the way they had.  I can think of a few ways they could have been written out without it having occured as it did on Horizon.

But yeah...if there is anything that has/had me worried regarding ME2 LI's (or just characters in general), it's the premise set by ME2.  Not a lot of confidence instilled by that move...but I'm very hopeful that the devs will NOT sideline people for ME3.  That would definitely NOT be cool.  I choose to be optimistic about it, but in the back of my head there's that voice reminding me what Casey said in an interview about how they were considering a whole new squad for ME3.

I can imagine! I didn't romance them, but I was definitely ranting after it.  I was all: "Why, Bioware, WHY!"
