We should form a "Clan Vakarian" in here. Sorta like I was in "Clan Larcenio Haul" on the Thief message boards.

(I was the "Interrogation Technologist". LOL:P )

I dunno, I thought Garrus seemed to say a lot more funny/sarcastic stuff compared to the first game. Eh, oh well. I should be lurking.

He does, and no, you can't lurk anymore, I know where's you hangs out.  /drags Lucky back into the non-lurker dom.

I'm catching up on all things from my baileys induced coma... I hope I didn't say anything too stupid last night >.>
I've never played the KOTOR games, so I can't relate to any of that stuff, I'm still trying to get the gumption to replay DAO now that there's DAOA.

Plus I need to revamp some of the Turian tattoo DB; all those awesome screenies of Riot's are not going to go to waste!
But I'm at work, so instead, I'll just waste time catching up, and say WELCOME DRUNKEN!
I have to say, I really hope that while they reward the faithfuls to the ME1 LIs, I hope they give you interesting options/choices for those of us who were just "blowing off steam" w/ a certain L2 biotic and got her real deal in ME2... >.>

This is my situation too.  I might have to replay the first game again and avoid Kaidan completely.  I don't think a lot of people (myself especially) anticipated that the decisions-carrying-over thing would have such profound implications for the whole trilogy.  But hey, adds more replay value, right? ;)

Can someone with banner making skillz make a 'Clan Vakarian' banner, please? :o

re: Kaiden. Yeah. I have just noticed I have not a single ME1 playthrough where he was not romanced (except MaleShep, but he had Liara, and there's no Garrusmance there), and a mate has my copy of ME1. As soon as I get it back, I'm going to have to play through it again without even talking to the biotic (or the blue one), so I can be free and single for Gar, lest this have ME3 implications!

I'm going to reserve judgment.  I definitely worry that it's going to get screwed up, in various ways, or that they'll leave this or that out or do this or that wrong, but I try to push those feelings aside because I don't have any control over it.

On second thought, "You cannot spell Garrus without GAR" should totally be the slogan of Clan Vakarian. Because it's awesome. And true.

BioWare has really screwed themselves over, in a way. It was bad enough when there were 6 characters in ME1, and each has a passionate following (well OK, so Wrex is on the back burner. LOL) Now they have 12 and most have passionate fanbases. NO MATTER WHAT BW does, they are gonna end up p*ssing off a bunch of people. I don't envy anyone at that company.

My one and only ME1 playthrough didn't romance Kaidan, and he was Virmired. I also turned down Liara when she asked if our feelings were mutual.

News is worrying.

janeym27 wrote...

Or very, very right. Garrus is incapable of NOT doing a badass stance!

He is capable of not doing a badass stance. But then he'd do an adorable/cute as **** stance.

/sigh
This is why I sometimes regret even becoming a fan. : /
Really?  They want to make it a stand alone?
This better not mean cameos, for all the old squaddies.
I mean... really... you create this awesome story, and while from a marketing/money/business perspective, I understand that getting new players is the ultimate goal because that means more people who if they like ME3 will buy the previous installments...
I'll be pretty disappointed if they try to do another reboot. : /
I'm not sure how they'd render a reboot on Shepard him/herself... Maybe Chakwas gets an upgrade to the med bay and you can have cosmetic surgery... I don't know.
But this makes me wonder if after you finish the SM... maybe getting back to Council Space isn't going to be as simple as that... they left off in ME2 at a fairly ambiguous point... I can see them picking up RIGHT there.
I just... I'll be pretty damn pissed if gathering up the band of 12 is going to be ultimately a time killer.
Just...
really...
Grr.

Morning. No hangovers and cookies for breakfast. Man, I love living with the consequences. :3

(Although I'm giggling a bit at the cookies. They're so crooked and the color isn't mixed in. Ah, drunk Silt. You so crazy.)

And steal away, janeym. It *is* an awesome idea, if I do say so myself. My execution was just...lacking.:P

It's interesting to think of bioware people reading these threads to get a gauge of how the fanbase is leaning.
(...:bandit:...If there's someone from bioware reading this right now, I'm repeating my offer:  Garrus says "I have a bad feeling about this" in ME3, you get cookies.  And they'll be straight and pretty. I PROMISE.)

re: interview
:(  I get that a standalone game is kind of the only logical option. Think about how many people who played Halo 3 without playing the first two.  After all the hype ME2 caused and all the hype that's going to be around for three, we will see a lot of newcomers, and not all of them are going to care enough to play ME1 and ME2.  If EA Bioware wants to make money, they'll make it so you can jump in. I get that.

Still.  If you make a standalone game you're already taking a step towards ruining that feeling of consequence.  And I was kind of hoping that Bioware was going to take a "reward our fans who've stuck with us through all 3 games" stance.  Alas.

This is disappointing news, if unsurprising.

Hi guys! No, I'm not hungover. Very tired, but no headaches or whatever. But I forgot everything I read before my last post this morning/last night. I was trying to find the last page my post was in, so I could catch up from there. I thought I had found it, but apparently I already read all those posts yesterday, because my last post suddenly appeared. Am I making any sense? No.

This... this displeases me. And worries me. I had assumed that they had a 3 game arc already planned, since they knew they were making a trilogy.
Curious...

On the other hand, maybe they'll heed the Garrus love, now! lol

This is the thing...maybe it gives them more time to sift through what the fans really want.  There's copious proof that BioWare pays a LOT of attention to what we all say.

Well, I thought they already made plans for the story in ME3, but they're listening to the fans on this board to apply some wishes to the story. To make sure almost every fan will somehow get what they want, without demolishing the story. But that standalone story crap is kind of worrying. People shouldn't start playing this trilogy by beginning with the last part. I want a trilogy that actually makes sense when you played all three. I thought every decision you made in ME1 and 2 would somehow wrap up in ME3. But with that new message... I'm not so sure. :(

Garrus being a squadmate in ME3: even though I'm a pure pessimist, I somehow have high hopes for him returning in a good way in ME3. He has nowhere else to go. He was with you from the beginning, he should be there by Shep's side until the end. But I always like to expect the worst, because the disappointment will be less big. Errr, usually it works that way for me. Not so sure if this applies to Garrus not being in ME3 haha.

I had a dream last night about Zaeed, but I can't remember if it was a good dream or not. We watched The Italian Stallion (nsfw haha) (oh, and apparently it's called The Party at Kitty's and Stud's on IMDB) before going to sleep. Man, that's a WEIRD movie.

And my BF got 3 fishes for his birthday from his friend. I might call the black one Thane. Haha.

That's it for now. Going to take a shower and hope Garrus will be standing there with wine when I come out.

Edit: lol, that banner is cool.

Once again you deliver, Xsause. Anything witty for the fangirls/Flammies?

Yeah, I can see the logic in making it standalone like siltsonata says, but it changes quite a bit, especially if  they're making it for newcomers.

By standalone I think they are saying that you will be able to understand the plot and succeed in the game without having played ME1 and ME2. To me, this is a sound business decision and not so bad when you put it into perspective.

I really doubt that would happen. I mean really.

I'm going to be bold here: I promise that all of the LI's at the very least are coming back in roles larger than cameos.  Worst case scenario: they won't be squadmates (and I find this highly unlikely as well), but they'll have at least a large presence on the Normandy.  Bioware wants you to be able to continue your lovestory and they're not gonna screw you over on that front.

If there's anyone you should be worried about its' the non-LI's, but even that...I can't imagine my final game without Mordin. Or Legion.  :crying:  Legion especially, if you kept him alive he's going to be so important, I just know it.

Maybe I've got my rose-colored glasses on too tight, but I think you don't have to worry about the characters.

Worry about the plot and consequences of your decisions, if you want to worry about something. ;)

I...I'll try to remain optimistic... any idea how to fix on rose-coloured specs without major damage to yourself?

Apparently the interview follows with this, which could be promising:

".....for people who played the first two games, is that the third is really
the fruition of all the choices you made. So in a way, Mass Effect 2
was the most difficult to make because we had to not only bring in
things you've done before but think about what's coming for the future.
Now it's really about how things come to a conclusion."

So hopefully we'll still get an epic rendition of our choices taking fruit and an ending heavily based on what we've done, and our love stories (with Garrus) coming out colourfully. Newcomers should still have an option to have a character, and maybe more dialogue for them to explain what happened, whilst we don't need to hear it, so those who imported an ME2 save won't need such explanations.

Standalone probably wasn't the best word, considering it being the last of a trilogy and all.

Another comment on the stand alone thing:

He seems to be saying the game won't be wildly different if you were renegade versus if you were paragon in ME1/ME2, aside from possibly the ending. The story structure is going to be about the same. I agree with that not getting our team back pretty much makes ME2 useless, we spent almost the entire team recruiting, getting loyalty, and making sure these characters survive. If they don't return, we wasted our entire times as their death or survival means nothing. But I don't think that was what he was saying. I think he was saying that just like ME2, new players will be able to get a satisfactory ending.
