I'm trying my darndest to stay optimistic amid the vague announcements/comments from the devs. What really helped was someone once posted a thread arguing about them NOT returning, and I was able to think of a bajillion reasons why that was a crappy plan from both a business and fan-pleasing stance. They'll lose at least $60 right off if I find out Garrus is cameo'd. Srsly.
Also, the words I cling to in times of concern: Casey saying they were going to "go crazy" with ME3 because they don't have to worry about importing. Without the porting issue, suddenly your decisions matter a lot more and you can have many more options, both character wise (Garrus!) and story-wise.

he'd win all the time)

YOU. I REMEMBER YOU FROM THE "Garrus should not have been an LI" comment! SCOWLING AT YOU.
Though you're right, so totally Atton. Awmahgawd I wish he had been in a non-broken game.

Nah, it's okay.
You sure you don't want the fangirl/Flammie version, though?

im still really scared for ME3. i mean if tali and garrus got the cameo treatment...well then it would be time to rase my torch and pitchfork in the air
If this happens, Mass Effect will not be a trilogy for me. It'll end on a cliffhanger for 2. That's fine.
(well not fine but if they tick me off enough I would consider boycotting it.)

By standalone I think they are saying that you will be able to understand the plot and succeed in the game without having played ME1 and ME2. To me, this is a sound business decision and not so bad when you put it into perspective.
And I'm willing to give BW the benefit of the doubt... though I trust EA as far as I can throw them...
I hate though, when books, tv shows, etc get to a point in a story where they're about to just ruin everything... I've seen it happen time and again. Usually when it involves two characters and possible romances or lack there of, all for the sake of building "tension" and bringing people back.
This probably has nothing to do with that, but I'm getting that similar feeling. The one where I dread ever finishing the series now that I know it's still "up in the air." : /

Hey, if you want a different color, just ask!
What color did you have in mind?

I'd really hate for them to kill off the LI or Shepard just to be edgy. It'd be pretty terrible especially considering this is a trilogy.silentstephi wrote...

Lol true that, shepard looks like a 15 year old in that picture. I wish garrus was in ME2's cover too =(

But seriously, great work. I'm not sure what to do.
I think, perhaps, a better word would have been "self-sufficient". You can understand it without playing the other two games, but if you have played the other two games, you get a much more fufilling experience.

Ma'am, I declare war. Pink is the most badass colour evarr.
On a more serious note, I think 'standalone' indeed means 'accessible' for new players. ME is the only BW game I've played (well, aside from the 8 hours of DA that I'll never finish), so I have no idea what to expect. But like Collider said, we spent two games recruiting and one game that was almost completely devoted to gaining loyalty, so it would make no sense if none of that returns in ME3. And like silt said, BW want us to be able to continue the lovestory. Even if Garrus won't be in ME3 (but that won't happen of course
Also, one of the reasons why I think at least Garrus (and probably every other character) will be back, is the cutscene after the last talk with TIM. You walk into the... cargo thing... and Jack, Grunt and Garrus (and maybe another one, I can't remember) look at you like they're saying "Lead the way".
Everyone knows (aside from the Council morons) know about the Reaper threat. I think everyone would want to stop them.
