I'm guessing the new alien thing was big news throughout Turian space.  He'd probably seen them on whatever the Turian equivalent of tv was.  Little kids are incredibly curious and I'm sure Garrus was no exception.

I have a feeling Garrus was the kid in school that questioned everything and wanted to know everything. Probably part of the reason he became an investigator once he joined C-Sec.

I find it sad that turians and humans hate each other. I kind of find it sad that all the other races don't like humans to much either. Though i find it cool to see some random humans and turians around talking to each other.
