It's just that American history is so...new, ya know? Now Chinese history, Egyptian history, dating back thousands of years...that I find cool, for some reason.
Prothean history? I'd be all over that! What was their culture like, in-depth?
Turian history? Anyone? Bueller?:/

It's not much, but it's something.

I dig whenever we read a Codex entry about "such-and-such was invented (or discovered) in 1940, bladebla" and it's some high-tech thing and I just think back to swing music and pin curls on Earth. How oblivious we were... :)

For me, it gets harder for me not to judge someone for the horrible stuff they did when their moral code is in anyway similar to mine. The sack of Jerusalem I can read about all day but slavery or manifest destiny bugs the hell out of me.

God, no! Because they're so much closer to us. It's easy to read about what crusaders did 900 years ago but it gets tough to see that people like that could have been alive when people you know were alive. After all, the last Civil War veteran died in I believe 1957 or so. My father was born in 1951.

Ah, I see. That is very true. You're right, it's easier to be upset of things people have done in more contemporary times. I mean less than a century ago we had WWII...it's pretty sad all those things people did. Fortunately I think we are progressing more and more towards human rights.

True, but history teaches us that there are inevitable backslides. Dark ages strike most every civilization. We haven't had ours yet.

Never underestimate the depths of human depravity. We could all do with some 'turian honor'. /sagenod

We've done a lot of good things too, we can't overlook that. The fact that many of us strive towards human rights is a testament, I think. It seems like it can only get better...we have many reservations towards war that we didn't thousands of years ago. We only have a few tyrants around now.

Yes, it is good to focus on our good points. Maybe only then will we be worthy to interact with other races, anyway. ;)

Turians are a little too fond of the "bomb em' back to the stone age" approach though.Image IPB

A shame it seems likely we'll never find one. The universe is incredibly vast...

True, I shall shut up. I'm too cynical probably.

No, I think you have a good reason to be cynical. Lots of bad history out there. This is a friendly thread, no need to hush if you don't want to :)

I'm really looking forward to the races uniting against the Reapers in ME3. That seems to be the route they are going for. Then again it's speculation.

Here's one: If Bioware is smart, we're going to get our favorite squad mates back. That's plenty cheery I think.

<3<3<3 CUPCAKE!!!! <3<3<3

I swear I am going to draw Garrus with a cupcake. And I might as well attempt at making Garrus on a cupcake :D

But, on a more serious note... As much as I'd like to believe we're becoming a better civilization, I see the corruption of men's hearts manifested throughout the world everyday... As much as I'd like to think that the more developed countries are more advanced, I look at how broken and isolated the people are as a whole. Everyone thinks they no the right answer, yet no one is willing to admit they're wrong... Hell, I'm scared as to how we'll first interact when and if we first make contact with aliens... I have an overwhelming feeling through learning history that it's not going to go well. Of course the humans we'll be all greedy and only appear kind on the surface, and then they'll take everything they can get... Let's just hope the aliens are stronger and hopefully more merciful so that maybe we'll learn a lesson... Wait, that sounds kind of anti-human XD "My name's Commander Shepard and I think Cerberus can go to hell." :D

I want to live in a turian society... That would be so awesome... Reminds me of Spartan society, only without the kicking of Persians into wells XD

Just think of caveman huddling for warmth. One probably said to another, "Someday there will be indoor heating!" to which the other replied "But I'll be deeeeaaaaad!"
