:P @kglaser: You're awesome. I'd pick a more Garrus-y themed background but the DH is already concerned enough about my mental state as it is. So I'll settle for general ME-themed backgrounds.

My daughter's already showing encouraging signs of gamerness, as I've previously shared. ^_^ Between video games and RPG's she's shaping up to be an all around gamer chica. Newest 'win' moment- she and her 3 year old brother were playing with water guns out back- and taking cover the way Shep does in ME2.

To make this Garrus related- erm, I love Garrus.

You know, I've been in plenty of GameStops, and I've seen 1 (ONE) female employee there. It may be something about the area where I live, I don't know, or maybe I was just coming in on the wrong days.
Coincidentally, the one female employee I saw was the one who sold me ME2. ;)

Maybe she was a Garrus fan :wizard:

or likes Mountain Dew.;)

LOL
Hopefully both of the above.

By the way, I went to a baseball game tonight and they let us text messages to the big screen before the game...I tried to get my husband to text "I Love Garrus!" but he flatly said "no!" *sigh* oh well at least our kids' names got mentioned up there ;)

QFT

If we had a GameStop I would totally work there. O_O Alas, tiny towns are kind of crap like that.

Very very possible that eventually the population split between male and female gamers may become roughly equal. They've already started making games with female gamers in mind, whether as the primary audience or something more akin to Bioware games where you choose the gender of the protagonist. Those kinds of things will surely help the demographics even out. I know I like playing as male if I can help it.

Well Gears of War 3 is getting a female gear. I just hope people don't start using her just to look at her "features" since people in those kinds of games do that. I really hate people who just play as females just to see that or to romance other females like certain people in the male fanbase.

Agree with you 100%. A lot of their arguments are fail...I've seen people say they do it so they don't have to stare at the male character's ass all the time. First of all, if you're a straight guy, why are you even looking there in the first place?

As to Gears of War 3 getting a female character...no comment. I just hope her armor (ie. segments mysteriously missing to show skin) isn't less protective just for fanservice.

Yeah I really hate those people. As for Gears of War 3, if it helps, most of the guys in the game are also losing parts of their armor. I agree on that too, I just hope they didn't remove those parts just so the male fanbase could see some skin.

Hm. Siltsonata stated that about 40% of females are gamers. I think we also need to think about the kind of games we're talking about. I think for things like internet games, there are definitely lots of female gamers, but when it comes to console gamers, I don't know. When we think of video games, we think of shooters and adventure games, fighting games, most of which are played by males, I think. On the DS, and especially the Wii, I think there are more female players because there are other types of games (Super Mario, Wii Fit). Games for PS3, XBox, those are more "guy platforms". I was actually really surprised that this forum has so many females (or female dominated?) because I've actually haven't been around another "true" gamer in a really long time. It's nice

I forgot the point of my message. I will get back to you guys later on that once my thoughts are a bit more clear. I'm in a rush to take a shower before my family falls asleep. The blow dryer is SO loud.

Bolded part indicates you are a fantastic parent. <3
Was it your daughter who looked at Garrus and said "he's handsome"? :kissing:

Image IPB Tell your DH he must have come down with a case of lame-itis. That's one I like to use on mine. Heee.
I'll settle for my temporary graffiti and subtle indoctrination of my children. I'm homeschooling, so whatever slips into their curriculum is up to my discretion.....and face it, anything that makes teaching them more fun for me is a plus.

"This is Garrus. He sees three bad men. He drops one of them with a sniper rifle. How many are left?"
"None! The rest ran away!"
"Yes they did. But he will find them. He always finds them."

@kglaser: Yes indeedy, this is the same Garrus-loving preschooler.

@M, IIRC that 40% includes casual games like solitaire. The gaming market is still heavily male, but the divide is shortening by the day. Partly because more and more games are allowing female protagonists. RPGs tend to attract more female games than the other genres. I tend to see this as because RPGs have more plot to them usually. And on that note, both of those reasons are why Mass Effect is popular among females more than other games. Forums are not necessarily representative of the demographics of the respective games - after all, most players probably have not even looked at these forums, much less posted.

I got my first Xbox360 solely for the purpose of playing Bioshock.  I never regretted it.

From what I've heard, there is a decent ammount of females in shooters and other game like that. The problem is that the ones that talk are really rare. I don't blame them though, every time a girl talks in one of those games some idiot starts saying stupid stuff. Besides I never talk through a mic, there's nothing to say to the people in those games.

Lord, I remember the first time I spoke up on Vent when I joined my first WoW guild way back when the servers went live....

".....you're a GIRL?!"

The one other woman there, far older, spoke up and went 'Honey, start running now.' It was funny as hell, really. Just... yeah. I mean, I can see why a lot of female gamers get driven away from speaking up on some games. It just isn't worth the hassle. (Worst pickup lines I EVER got was when I pulled from a club party to work the opening night of Halo 2... in leather and big boots and so on. The security guards said I was either really brave or really stupid. I just shrugged and threatened to rip up the reservations of anyone who so much as touched me. They kept their hands to themselves but the pickup lines... ooooooh man those were BAD. Just.. BAD.)

I forgot to pick up Mt.Dew when I got the sours mix. DRATS. Tomorrow. Tomorrow.

EDIT: Great. Just great. If this gets locked because of that....<_< Ugh.:pinched:

Female gamers: To be fair, if I find out there's another lady I know who's a gamer, we're usually both surprised. I have female friends who are more into shooters, a SIL whose tastes are rather unpredictable (she loved Borderlands and Assassin's Creed, but couldn't 'get into' ME2??!!)

I've also tried indoctrinating my BFF, but she still lives a thousand miles away, so I wouldn't get to meet up and drink and giggle about Garrus too often, anyway.

I have gotten my best friend involved in playing several adventure games (from start to finish), but she could never get into games with action. I totally respect that; they're not for everybody. Besides, she'd much rather spend time with her adorable ferrets, anyway. ;)

Well, it's good to see that females are on their way equalling out with the guys. And hopefully, eventually, will be equally vocal about their love of gaming. =D

And thank goodness no one was paying attention to me when I scrolled down to that picture.

@kglaser: This particular friend is into DA:O, though, and that was the reason she originally declined to start ME2 (she was coming up to college graduation and was obsessed enough with DA as it was). So I'm hoping to make another appeal soon. If is turns out she's not a Garrus fan, however, I will be a sad panda.

Armax: It's not about having a stick up our asses. We -talk- about and -link- to alien pron here all the time. But posting the pics can get the whole effing thread locked down, and we don't want that, mmmkaaay??
