Garrus was just right for my femshep. I got to know him better in the first game, and by the second game, I felt more comfortable to pop the question.

Yeah, pretty awesome to have one game to get to know a character and another game to take it to the next level.

It's all based on preference. I really don't understand why people hate on others for liking something else, it's usually mutual, too. I prefer Tali, you prefer Ashley, people on this thread prefer Garrus.

Let them love.

People like to fight and try to impose their opinions on others. I know that people in every fan-thread rip on other LIs sometimes, the Ash thread is certainly guilty of it and I've seen every thread but the Thane one engage in it at some point. Overall though, it seems a little better than it was even a few weeks ago.

We try to stay good-humored here, though sometimes it gets taken wrong. We know even a lot of the regulars here have different preferences, and that anybody can come along and read what we've written.

I was under the impression that all of the ME2 femshep romances were player initiated rather than the male character hitting on them first.

Yeah they are, that's something somebody was complaining about, surprisingly enough.  She wanted the male character to hit on her so she would feel more desirable.  She held that as a weakness of the ME2 romances that you were expected to take the reigns. :\\\\

Edit: so what I meant was, if you want to be pursued, you have the romances of the first game.  If you like to be the pursuer, you have the romances of the second game.

I've actually heard that most women like to be pursued, though I'd hardly be one to make broad generalizations here. I know for myself that some men like an aggressive woman.

Interestingly, what you bring up, about Kaidan being more forward than say, Jacob, Garrus, or Thane, is sort of the opposite of the male romances in my experience. Liara and Ashley have to be approached and while Tali/Miranda/Jack certainly also have to be I got the impression from all three that they're a lot more forward about they're interest in Shepard than either Liara or Ashley. In a way, I suppose this makes sense: Liara is an extremely awkward individual in social interactions and while Ashley isn't above the occasional flirt, she clearly (as her letter indicates) is wary of the whole fraternization thing.

Meanwhile, Jack has absolutely no qualms or inhibitions about sex whatsoever as far as I can figure (although she does object to you sleeping around), Miranda openly uses her body as a sex object once you start even moving slightly in that direction, and Tali has essentially been suppressing a crush for awhile that finally erupts after her loyalty mission.

An interesting contrast, though, in my mind, since, from what I've been told, the female romances are very much the opposite.

Eh, I don't think it get's that bad in here. Except for when it comes the Jacob, but...I dunno. I feel like he doesn't really count.

The worst things I've heard said in this thread (and the first one) about the other LIs are:
Miranda is kind of Mary Sue
Thane has Carth Syndrome
Kaidan's JOKERSWAITINGFORYOUONTHEBRIDGE

Liara has to be approached? She openly admits that she's "intrigued by Shepard," in that sultry tone, without Shepard having to show interest beforehand.

Oh yeah, I've never seen you guys get nasty or anything.. Some other threads can't say the same thing though, unfortunately. There is one or two posters in my thread of choice that gets a little lippy sometime though we've kind of trained them out of it mostly.

Yeah the last time I played ME I noticed that Liara comes on to you in the first interaction.

EDIT: Actually I should rephrase, your character basically has to reject her in the first interaction in order to simplify things.

Character hate doesn't bother me so much, after all; it just means that the character in question did not suceed to the standards of the speaker. What does bother me is hating on fans because they like a character, I mean really? I'm willing to defend any fandom for this, even one I'm not a part of, but the only people who are consistently bashed are Tali fans.

I just really don't see the point in any of this hate, I mean we're all Mass Effect fans, right?

Well I know I can't speak for most women, but I definitely prefer making the moves.  Nothing wrong with it going the other way around, though.  And although the female romances do seem to put themselves out there, perhaps Tali the most with her admission that she's been harboring a crush, there is always the very clean cut option of shutting them down.  I've heard a lot of people say they tried to dismiss characters' interests in the first game only to have them coming in for a kiss or showing up in their bedroom.

Definitely, Talimancers take it hard from a lot of people. I know it gets annoying when someone comes in  to our thread and says,"You can't like Ashley, she's racist!" It just boggles the mind, some peoples arrogance and stupidity. I can just imagine how hard it is to get bashed everyday.Image IPB

If it's any consolation, a good majority of your noisiest "critics" do a good job of singling themselves out as the most obnoxious people in the room.

Rejections were wierdly done in Mass Effect, even if you turn down a romance, an import would still set you up. The easiest way to go through with no romance is to charm both Liara and Ash/Kaiden, during the confrontation turn down Liara and nuke the one you are committed to. No romance to import.

But really, killing someone to get out of a relationship?

That's pretty extreme, Commander.

Okay, admittedly, that can be taken to be seductive. I didn't really take it that way, though, at least not consciously on her part. Liara also tries to cover it up pretty ineffectively also, which indicates to me that she's much more comfortable with Shepard taking the lead.

But I can see how one might see it differently.

Morning all. Thread moved awfully quickly today.

I've gotta rush for school, so I'll just go into the catch-up jokes and the discussions later. I'll just say that I don't hate any of the characters, and I see both the flaws and the good points.

kglaser wrote...

I'd rather find an indecent tongue. :bandit:
OK, somebody seriously needs to stop me.  I need Flammie to hit me with one of his lasers or something, only he's gone to roost for the night.

The lasers are constantly trained on me, so it's unlikely I can get them to hit you. You saw what happened when I tried to laser janeym27. I got hit instead and she got singed. So I can't help you if you go over the top.

And roost? I see what you did there.

Oh, here's another scouterless Garrus pic! I was just checking out my new drawing tablet. This one took me about 5 minutes or something, and it's not my best sketch ever, but hey! It's Garrus!

Excellent picture, and I like the surprise in his eyes.

But updated concept art will do just fine. Until that day, the 'After

It's a great pic... but I'm not entirely sure that's how I see a naked turian. Especially the plates.

But Liara does take the lead. Literally. Without Shepard even asking IIRC. She just goes and says that she's intrigued.

I took that to mean more general personal interest, like how I find Garrus interesting. Doesn't mean that I'm in love with him. Yes, it grows into love with Liara, but I don't feel it starts that way, though there's definitely an element of physical attraction from the beginning.

I don't really know what you're talking about here. I'm just talking about characters flirting first, without needing to be asked. Liara does that.

Though right now since I haven't given the survivor thread the attention it doesn't deserve, I have no idea what's going on with all the talk of Liara and haters. Not that I mind. I'm just confused as to why that thread became such a big deal alluvasuddden. Image IPB
