Random thought inspired by my pet parakeet.

Alas, evidence suggests that they don't.

I wholeheartedly agree!

Also, Cerrydd: did you bring wine? :wizard:

lol, Garrus standing on one foot XD. I'm still loving that walk when he walks to the music console to turn on the music.

And no, the wine is in the refridgerator. Fortunately, my bottle of Bailey's is standing right next to my chair. I am so lazy XD

Reappearing after a long absence (and popping in while I can due to real life stuff) after noticing the maturity level has risen again since I last was here.  This is a good thing!

I guess you missed the pic of the cat in the toilet with the Garrus facepaint drawn on.
Anyway, welcome back! :)

And another random thought:  Anyone else consider that during the final romance scene, Garrus specifies that he didn't watch the culture vids?  I think he did watch the "other" vids.  You know which ones I mean!  My theory:  The poor guy probably thought human culture was similar enough to turian culture that he could just go about seducing her like he would a turian--after all, he hadn't done any in-depth study of human culture before and she still apparently wanted him without any extra effort on his part.  The intercourse would be the part he thought he needed to figure out (previous dialogue would imply this, too), particularly since they might accidentally kill each other.  He realized too late that culture might be important too...

Lame, I know, to focus solely on the romance, but I don't have anything else Garrus-related to share at the moment.

Actually, that wasn't random or lame at all...in all these pages I don't remember seeing that angle on it before.  It makes perfect sense, when I re-watch the scene, to think of it that way.

I laughed at that...I was like, "why is he suddenly running?  is he running for his life?" LOL
And Cerryyd are you going to be limericking again today?  I enjoyed reading all of yours yesterday. :)

Haha yeah, RUN GARRUS, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! IF YOU DON'T PUT ON THE MUSIC ON NAO SHEPARD WILL KILL YOU! And then, when the Flux music plays, he's slooowly walking, opening his arms, like he's saying "look at me being all cool and seductive!" Awww, he's too cute.

And yeah, I will be limericking. I'm thinking about my next one right now :D

Wow. That is stunningly good. I'm genuinely impressed. You really capture Garrus' voice with that. I'm a little unclear on when it was written though. Given the contents of the letter I imagine it's before Shepard was resurrected but if so, why was Garrus writing it? As a journal?

Anyhow, good piece.

Hey, thanks :) I found it tricky to really get inside Garrus' head, and it's really due to the amazing advice given by Sialater and some of my other talented friends from here and the KAST group that I managed it. As Isaac Newton said - if I have seen further, is it by standing on the shoulders of giants.

As for the timing - It's part of a series of fics I'm writing called The Forgotten Letters. (link in my sig) .. They're letters written by the crew of the Normandy to the 'dead' Shepard, sometime after the destruction of the SR1 and before Shepard's resurrection by Cerberus. Basically, they're .. things unsaid.. Things you wish you could have said while that person was alive.. Things you wish you had had the courage to say.. Some people do it in real life when they lose a loved one. It's a form of closure.

The only real difference about this letter is that it assumes that Liara is fishing for decisions on whether or not to give Shepard to Cerberus (hence her asking Garrus "If Shepard could be brought back, what would you do?") .. The concept of the letter itself was inspired by Sialater's The Funeral. (Which, by the way, is an insanely good read) It's a sort of cross-over fic, basically. Sialater was kind enough to allow me to use that line in order to kick off this letter.

So far, I have Tali, Kaiden, Ashley, Joker, Hannah Shepard (SpacerShep's mom) and now Garrus. Still to come: Wrex, Liara, Anderson and Dr. Chakwas (and anyone else I can think of)

Geez...I just read an excellent Garrus-centric fic on fanfiction.net and commented on it, saying the person must have worked very hard on it...and they replaced the words "hard" and "on" with asterisks. /rolleyes

@Raphael diSanto: That letter was amazing. And you chose the best sentence to finish it: I'll be here if you need me. Because that's really what Garrus is about. He's always watching your back.

You can thank Sia for that. She sent me a PM when we were discussing it and she was like, you have to put in "I'll be here if you need me" in it.. So, uh, I found a spot where I thought it fitted, haha.

Wow...Woo just busted into the Tali thread and threatened to shut it down...permanently.  Here's part of what he said:

"We've been REALLY lenient with the character threads up to this point, but if it's all just going to devolve into spamming, chatter and memes, I have no problem at all with locking them all and banning them completely."

:crying:

Let's be vigilant and keep this on-topic (as we have, for the most part, done) and no spam.
I know we're not like that here, but his mention of all "character threads" scared me a little.

I'm actually really proud of this thread, as I feel that we are still finding relevant things to discuss, with different spins on them, after all these posts.  But that's owing to the complexity of Garrus's character, so I dedicate this wizard to him. :wizard:

What fic was it?

It was "Mass Effect 2 Unexpected Alliances".  The sheer skill of the writer has been blowing me away.  This person breathes new life into a story I already know and makes me feel almost like I'm reading it for the first time.  I highly recommend checking out this one if you don't mind the fics that are essentially retellings of the ME2 story (I like them).

Wait....why did blueL get a ban?? O_O

*Missed a lot**Will miss some more*

Edit: To keep on-topic, I am working on a more serious GarrusxFemShep piece, but will take a lot longer as I hope to be able to do a good job. Image IPB

Well apparently they've been getting a lot of complaints for spam and off topic. I doubt that would apply to us. But hey, I'll ask him how we've been doing.

Removed image spam from the last few pages. We've been REALLY lenient with the character threads up to this point, but if it's all just going to devolve into spamming, chatter and memes, I have no problem at all with locking them all and banning them completely.

If I receive another complaint about this thread and have to come back to a few pages of off-topic chatter, memes, and image spam, I will lock this thread and not allow any more to be started. I also will have no problem with spending an evening going through the last few pages of the thread, editing, removing, and banning inappropriate content. I doubt anyone wants to be known as the person who got the Tali thread shut down.

So if you wish to continue having a Tali thread to talk about Tali in, play nice and show us that you can be responsible for one. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our community or this message, please let me know. Thank you.

I read Sialater's fics, and I have to say (no offense to anyone else) hers are the best I've read so far.

Now if she'd only branch out from Garrus a bit more... (Though the Garrus-related fics are just great.)

I like that she manages to make them tastefully mature.

Hm. Speaking of, I had an idea about a fanfic with Garrus and my main FemShep (going back some pages, I think maybe Garrus /does/ have a type. She's a blonde-haired, green-eyed adept who may be remade into a sentinel or vanguard for harder difficulties... Garrus clearly has a thing for blonde-haired, green-eyed biotics). No, it's not a smutfic, and I'm still iffy on whether I will write it. It's more about her dealing with her past, because Shepard doesn't get to talk about her past to anyone, and that stinks.

Funny you should say that, because I was planning to make a totally new Shep to replay ME1 and not romance anyone (and import her to ME2 for Garrus's romance)...and she's a blonde, green-eyed Adept.  No kidding.

Well, I think you found the perfect spot for that line. The Garrus supporting lines like "I'll be here if you need me" and "Right behind you" are almost his trademark. Garrus will always help you, no matter what :). That's why I think the 'loyalty' concept in the game is kind of dumb. The game treats loyalty as 'being able to completely focus on the mission'. Garrus is always loyal. He joins you without hesitating and he will be watching your back where ever you go.

Regarding Woo's comment in the Talithread: I think we're doing fine. We sometimes tend to get a little off-topic, but we always get back on track. I lurked in the Talithread for a while last night when my thread exploded, and it's no wonder they got zillions of pages.

I have always said that the 'loyalty' concept in ME2 is misnamed. As a game mechanic it's fine. But even the in-game dialogs don't really call it loyalty. They call it being focused on the mission, free of distractions.

So I've always thought that instead of loyalty status - loyal or disloyal, they should have labelled it mission focus: focused or distracted.

That actually makes -more- sense in terms of the effect of the suicide mission choices too, then.

A disloyal Jacob as a squad leader for the second fire team isn't going to get shot in the face. He's disloyal, so he isn't going to do -anything- that'll risk his own skin.

But a distracted, unfocused Jacob will make mistakes, regardless of his personal loyalty.

Which reminds me...isn't a cuttlebone what you put in a parakeet cage for them to knaw on?  Suddenly I have the image of baby turians with their cuttlebones.  Friggin' cute...

Yes. Even though I need to be up at 4am tomorrow to open, but yes anyway. After scalding myself at work today they can just deal with me however I come in tomorrow.

I think Garrus' and Tali's utter loyalty is what makes me like them both so much. If I ever made a male!Shep, I would romance Tali as loyally as I romance Garrus. Not that I will, since I just couldn't relate to a male!Shep and thus wouldn't be as 'into' the game... but eh.
