More from Tali thread:

Stanley Woo wrote...
Removed some more inappropriate and spam images, handed out more 24-hour bans for spam over the last 15 pages of activity.

Some notes:
Pictures of Tali are okay. It is a Tali thread, after all. But the regular forum rules, still apply. That means no swearing, no inappropriate content, no spam.

Meme images are spam. Images should not be the only content in a post (excepting Tali pics, of course), and images should never be used to replace discussion or conversation.

Don't respond to trolls. Not only is that exactly what the trolls want--a reaction to their douchebaggery--but in popular threads it completely disrupts the thread when everyone and their dog starts responding and crying to people to get back on topic and don't respond to the troll and telling the troll to leave. Ignoring the troll works WAY better and makes him much easier to spot.

Quoting inappropriate images equals posting those images; don't do it. Not only are you contributing to spam and posting those images yourself, you are making it that much harder for me to find and remove those images. I have to do that stuff manually and it gets really annoying when a bunch of people quote it to say how inappropriate or bad it is.

If you see stuff like this happening in your thread, for Pete's sake, report the darn thing!! I've gotten one complaint about this thread, and that was for the flag-burning pic. I didn't get one for the BBW pics, the bull defecating pic, or others even though they were off-topic, spam, and highly inappropriate for our community. So please, for the longevity of this thread and future ones of this nature, take responsibility for your thread and don't be afraid to speak up and let us know when something sketchy goes on. The "Report" button only moves so fast.

Also to clarify another comment I made: if this thread gets locked for too much spam, chatter, and nastiness, other character threads will not automatically be locked as well. But, because of the community's inability to police itself in one character thread, the others will be under increased scrutiny and it will take far less nonsense for us to consider them for locking as well.

I have always said that the 'loyalty' concept in ME2 is misnamed. As a game mechanic it's fine. But even the in-game dialogs don't really call it loyalty. They call it being focused on the mission, free of distractions.

So I've always thought that instead of loyalty status - loyal or disloyal, they should have labelled it mission focus: focused or distracted.

That actually makes -more- sense in terms of the effect of the suicide mission choices too, then.

A disloyal Jacob as a squad leader for the second fire team isn't going to get shot in the face. He's disloyal, so he isn't going to do -anything- that'll risk his own skin.

But a distracted, unfocused Jacob will make mistakes, regardless of his personal loyalty.

A very good point.  I'm just glad they switched to "loyalty missions" from "sympathizer achievements" in ME1.  That was a drag, having to lug the same person around with you everywhere.  It's one of the few things I didn't like about the first game.
Of course, I got "Turian Sympathizer" first. ;)

Random thought inspired by my pet parakeet.

It would be amusing if turians stood on one foot when comfortable.

Alas, evidence suggests that they don't.

Which reminds me...isn't a cuttlebone what you put in a parakeet cage for them to knaw on?  Suddenly I have the image of baby turians with their cuttlebones.  Friggin' cute...

Yeah, birds of all types chew on cuttlebones.  The cuttlebone is actually the endoskeleton of a cuttlefish, which is a relative of the squid.  They chew them for calcium and other minerals--or in my bird's case, because destroying things is fun.

You can also buy mineral blocks if you don't like the idea of turning your herbivorous pet bird into an indirect carnivore.

If I ever made a male!Shep, I would romance Tali as loyally as I romance Garrus. Not that I will, since I just couldn't relate to a male!Shep and thus wouldn't be as 'into' the game... but eh.

Actually, I think if I make a male Shep, I could finally be full Renegade.  'Cause I just seem to go all paragade with Garrus and Thane on my team...

They also chew on them to wear down their beaks, which constantly grow. If they don't, the beak could grow in a way that made it impossible for them to eat. (Has a cockatiel at her parents' house.)

This is true too.

Mine's a budgie, not a 'tiel.  She does the face-snuggle thing with my fingers.

I don't think turians would need to wear down their "beaks," because they seem to have sort-of lips.  At least, the upper part of the mouth is flexible.  But they might need minerals, so it's possible they'd have something similar to cuttlebones on Palaven, or within their daily rations.

Great.  Now I'm picturing Garrus crunching on dextro-animal bones.

Cuttlefish are pretty interesting in that less dominant male cuttlefish will disguise themselves as female to get closer to other females and mate with them without the more macho males catching wise of what's going on.

Probably not what Jacob was getting at, but interesting nonetheless.

Does anyone think Lilihierax was confirming that turians have gizzards when he made that comment about "polish some gizzard" in ME1?

More Woo in Talithread:

Going a little off topic now and then is natural when you have such a
giant thread and a group of people talking about the same subject for
along time. Remember, however, that Moderators do occasionally stop by,
and if they see too many pages of off-topic discussion, they might not
see "we're talking about this and will get back to Tali in a page or
two." They may instead see "we're done talking about Tali and don't need
this thread anymore." So it's always good to get back to the main topic
after a few pages. That's "a few" as in 3-5, not "a few" as in 10-15.
;) I would assume that, as a bunch of folks who love talking about all
things Tali, you'd eventually want to bring the conversation back to
Tali anyway.

So it's pretty clear we're safe :).

"Aw, Shepard, you didn't need to get me anyth -- OH OH OH A NEW CUTTLEBONE."

Garrus proceeds to knaw away, content.

Well, I think you found the perfect spot for that line. The Garrus supporting lines like "I'll be here if you need me" and "Right behind you" are almost his trademark. Garrus will always help you, no matter what :). That's why I think the 'loyalty' concept in the game is kind of dumb. The game treats loyalty as 'being able to completely focus on the mission'. Garrus is always loyal. He joins you without hesitating and he will be watching your back where ever you go.

I have always said that the 'loyalty' concept in ME2 is misnamed. As a game mechanic it's fine. But even the in-game dialogs don't really call it loyalty. They call it being focused on the mission, free of distractions.

Yes, misnamed is the right word for it. 'Gaining loyalty' in the literal sense of the word is nonsense when it comes to Garrus, because he's already loyal. Same thing with Tali, although she's a tad more hesistant because Shepard is working for Cerberus. Taking care of the Sidonis problem will keep Garrus focused, because it's clear he keeps thinking back about the time he got his squad killes.

Your description about the focusing/distraction with Jacob pushes the right buttons hits the spot. But maybe BW chose the word 'loyalty' because it means a lot more than 'focused'.

Hahaha...I'd like to think that I'm a Shepard in the romance department, but really, I'm a Garrus.  Including the dorky music.

...maybe that's why I like him so much.  Reminds me of someone...

That's what makes it so adorable. He tries SO hard. So very very hard. And still messes up. Poor guy. Haha. But it's just another reason we love him.

You know, I really didn't think you could compare Garrus to Alistair in Dragon Age, but there is something about the two...obviously not the same character, but in the romance department there's this endearing awkwardness that is both funny and sweet.

Which makes sense, considering my two favorite lines from those games are about 'poping the heat sink' and 'licking a lampost in winter'.

The second quote totally ruined the Narnia movies for me...

*laughs*.. My current FemShep Insanity playthrough is hauling Mr Vakarian around for the achievement right now, hehe. And yeah, they're annoying achievements to try and get, I totally agree.

I think you're right. It's definitely an easier concept to grasp, and.. lowest common denominator, and all that..

You just kinda have to put up with it. In my head I read it as focused/distracted, regardless of what the screen says, LOL.

Hey man, I always liked the Flux music. I just... didn't expect it to hear it in ME2... in a ROMANCE SCENE. If you're going to use that music when you're trying to seduce your woman, at least do a little dance. You hear me, Garrus? DANCE FOR ME!
