Garrus Love and Adoration v.2

I just hope BW spends the time on it. Seriously. I will be incredibly depressed if they make the romance issue unimportant completely. I want some party banter on it. I want some ramifications resulting from your choice. (Be it racism from some, claims of betrayal for others, etc etc...) I was incredibly sad when I fired up DA: O Awakening to discover all that hard work was kind of given a pat on the head and ignored. Learn from the two games, BW!
Thank heavens for Spell Check... the wine is making my fingers hella clumsy.

We've probably been over this topic before, but when did you realize you were really fond of Garrus (platonically or romantically)?
When I set out to play ME1, I was like 'pfft, achievements, whatever, I play how I want'--and then I got to the Saren confrontation and the words Turian Ally Achievement Unlocked! popped up on my screen. S-so I guess I was really transparent right from the beginning orz
Same. ME1, Garrus was the one team member who never left my party. It's his entrance: "Nice shot." "Sometimes you get lucky."
And his voice. I know I bring it up a lot, but I have a thing for voices and his was just... in a game full of awesome VO, it stood out and shiney.
I think the moment that 'sealed the deal' to to speak, was when facing the Thorian, he said something like "This was never mentioned in any of my manuals..."

I disagree...I mean, what are they expecting, exclusive content if they didn't romance anyone? Shepard crying himself/herself to sleep while murmuring "I'm so lonely..."? They have a full opportunity to go into the romances, but if they don't, it's their call. Certainly, there's always playing as non-canon Shepards that romance someone, if they are so inclined to do so. If you think about, the romances in ME1 and ME2 probably constitutes less than 10 minutes of total gameplay. Yet because it's paced and space out it may seem more than that on the surface. I don't think it's too much to expect romance continuation in ME3 of comparable size and content in ME1/2, if not a little more considering it's the last game.Soltana wrote...
I've got my fingers crossed but I'm really not expecting much in the way of romances to begin with. I mean, yeah we'll get maybe an extra scene or two but in reality, I don't think we'll get much more. What of the people who didn't romance anyone? It wouldn't be fair to them to have this whole sweeping and epic romance arc.
DA's dark ritual may have worked for DA, but as you said, I don't want that again. Mass Effect is a different case than DA, DA was a single game and touted from the beginning as dark fantasy. Mass Effect was a trilogy, if something terrible happens to our romance interest or we have eat 5 million kittens to keep them alive, that would horrible in context that we've played one or likely two games to import into ME3.I also kind of hope they leave the romance open-ended come the final curtain call. No silly over-the-top epilogue or worse, epilogue power point. And I will rage so hard if there's no happy ending without sacrifice. If you're gonna give me a sad ending, make it so Bioware. I have no problem. If you're gonna give me a happy one and have me work for it, Okay. But no more feeling dirty and clinical about something that's supposed to be happy. I enjoyed the twist and DA's end but that doesn't mean I want to do it again.

I just like to look at it from all sides. There are some people who genuinely don't like any of the romances and that's their perogative or they roleplay asexual Shepards. Doesn't mean they're doing wrong. But maybe I should clarify. By a whole epic romance sideplot, I'm talking something that takes a decent chunk of time maybe with extra missions or what have you. What I meant is that I don't expect any more substance content-wise to the romance subplots than there was in ME1&2...just a couple of additional scenes which include our conclusion.
Although more LI-centered content would be more suitable for DLC.

I agree. It's the same as the "They can't have 'x' as a squad member in case people let them die in the SM. Aand then you are like: but this is the point of choice and consequence. It is almost harder to not romance someone than to romance them (in terms of interest), and BW seem to have put a lot of time and effort into setting these romances up. To shirk on them in the final part would be silly and baffling.
I like to think that regardless of who your LI is, whatever ending you get (I am hoping there will be multiples available) will include them. For happy or sad, I want the final shot to be Shep contemplating their LI.

*ahem*
I feel like the romances are an optional choice that you don't have to pursue if you don't want to. They are kind of a big deal to some fans because: unlike watching TV or reading a book, you can actually choose, and affect, the interaction and 2. because the scenes are spaced out, fans of the romances interpret "relationship" throughout the storyline and not just in those scenes. I mean, if you're romancing Garrus (Or Tali or Thane or whoever) you probably take that character with you a lot and really listen to what they say, so the romance affects your whole story experience.
I was irked way back in ME1 that I had to choose between human(s) or innocent l'il Liara. I flirted with Garrus as much as the dialogue choices let me and was disappointed that not much happened. ME2 made my day.

I agree with that - I just hope Bioware feels the same. I don't think they will sideline them, I am just hoping that the LI is given importance and isn't lost or dismissed as not being important to the whole (ie. Awakenings). I am still a little bitter about Awakenings, but that is okay...
I am new to ME though, played 2nd one 1st after loving Dragon Age and had an ME epiphane! I was all "how was this out there and I didn't know about it...???"
Garrus had me at "Shepard..." and that VOICE. Is it wrong to have a bit of a crush on a bunch of pixels? You guys get that, right? lol:whistle:

Ah, I see. Sorry for misinterpreting you. I think extra missions would be probably be overkill, too. I don't think that spicing up certain missions if you romanced someone would be too much though. Like Garrus defending you with more conviction against his father, for instance, if you romanced him. I do want a little more than was in ME1 and ME2 though, although I don't expect it.Soltana wrote...

To me the fact that ME2 was spent almost entirely recruiting, gaining loyalty, and making sure squad mates survive means they have even greater justification for returning. I mean, what was the point of ME2 if who lived or died does not matter? We learned about the collectors and everything, but nothing really seemed to have changed. Continuing the romances would be making good on their investment. Luckily I don't think we need to worry.janeym27 wrote...

Palaven? Meeting his dad? Shirtless Garrus? A scene where he actually tells Shep he loves her?
What is on everyone's "wish list"?

In addition, some kind of ending that most Garrus romance fans would want. Can't personally answer that myself, but I have seen some people want some kind of vigilante or crime fighting partners ending.Rebe70 wrote...

I honestly don't remember when I admitted I had a big crush on him. I just know that in ME1 I kept going back to talk to him as he worked on the Mako, dreaming that he would say something different, and realizing finally that I just savored hearing his voice, standing near him. I 'knew' I could never have him, but the game couldn't stop me from beholding his magnificence.
And the moment when I happened upon *that* dialogue option in ME2 and found out he was romanceable was seriously one of the most gleeful moments of my (gaming) life. I was MONUMENTALLY glad I didn't have that spoiled for me. I was beside myself...and then I was like, c'mon, let's do some freaking missions so I can find out what he says next!! LOL, I had a new impetus to finish the game faster. Sad, but completely true.

Yes.
Also (I'm a doof, I thought I answered this already) as much as I don't believe in love at first site, it was definitely so with Garrus. First saw him while hubby was playing ME1 and I was smitten. At first it was because of how he looked but then I got to know him in my own PT and it just got worse lol. Still, I tend to swoon over turians in general. I don't know what it is about them but I just...gah they're so handsome.

Yep, that was more what I had in mind. Or perhaps the vision that body armor and bone china might NOT be the best combination...as he snaps off the little handle "Oh, crap...."

But on definitely Garrus-related note, I know I raised this before, but I'm concerned that they set the bar so high for Garrus's character in ME2. I mean, can anyone suggest how they could have made his character *any* cooler? I'm obviously incredibly biased about how great he is, but if anyone can objectively tell me how he could have been better in ME2, I'm listening.
If not, think about it...the only way they could take him in 3 is down. I don't want down.
