Required military service ftl. If IIRC.

Yeah, you have to enlist at boot camp for at least a year at 15 years old to become a soldier, or longer for officer.

But yeah, it's a fascinating society, but I don't think it'd be something I could live in and fit in very well, it's far too rigid and militant for me, and the sense of public duty is too strong for me.

FOR GREAT  JUSTICE!!!!!!!!!

And, Garrus.

....So to battle the thread's greatest evil villain with monocle and mustache you're sending in the mascot, a chicken in a school uniform? Seriously, this thread must have some physical issues if that's the case.

And, if we're fighting for Garrus, why the bloody hell is it just me and Soltana?

I'm not that good at following rules all the time, so I don't think I'd fit into turian society.

Sorry, had to do it after watching that fan-made extended romance scene. That cracked me up so much.

Didn't quite understand that sentence, kglaser.

Edit: Oh, right, h-e and "l" looks like toothpicks.

So none of us so far feel we can fit in turian society, and here we are loving Garrus and turians.

I think it started when Soltana mentioned tying Flammie down to train tracks so that Garrus would save him.

We're not enemies. I don't even know why the hell I'm fighting her. Something to do with stealing her monocle. But I gave it back. I did attack her mustache. But I thought we were alright after that. Then she tied me to the train tracks. And Garrus didn't rescue me.

...Lucky she tied me to a train track that wasn't actually working or being used. Kotori saved me on her drunken smiley hug rampage. (Thank you, Kotori)

Really, it all started when she threw a Safari Ball, me, and a rock at Garrus. Luckily he was very nice and understanding about all three things being flung at me, and me being the most sentient.

Then she became the thread's official villain.

But, seriously, why the flip is the rest of the thread sending the mascot to fight the thread's evillest villain? If I'm the most fit to battle her, then there's seriously something wrong with this thread.

And, yeah, I just realised, h-e and "l" looks like toothpicks.

One of the things that appeals to me in turian society is the freedom. You can lick Thane as much as you want, as long as you still do your job. You can worship any god you want (Garrus?), as long as you still do your job. I like this thought of being free to enjoy yourself. They also value taking responsibility for your actions, which also is a plus for me.

But all this kind of gets overshadowed by the strong sense of duty, serving the society, military etc. Boot camps starts when you're 15... that makes me wonder how big the differences are between a 15-year old turian and a 15-year old human. Teaching kids discipline is good, but I hope it's not like the usual heavy 'boot camp' I have in mind.

I wonder if we all put blonde, green-eyed avatars on, Garrus would appear in this thread more often.

I jest, I jest. My little Orlesian elf that I'm using for my avatar, however, would probably be terrified of Garrus. She'd believe he was some kind of demon or Fade beast, or equally bad, darkspawn.

Back on the topic of re-romancing in ME3, actually, I think it's quite possible, especially if few or no new characters are introduced. For those already in a romance, they'd be developing that one. For those who didn't romance anyone, they could choose one of the previous games' romances, but they may not get the same sort of resolution that someone who'd romanced a character in ME1 or ME2 gets. You guys can't honestly tell me you don't want to see the Garrus romance be further developed, and how will that happen if you can't re-romance?

For that matter, I think it's strongly hinted that at least some of the characters will be romanceable in ME3. Jacob, for instance--because if he's rejected in his final scene, then it's not really a rejection, just a "we'll do this later." Though maybe that's the only way Shep can get rid of him. It may not be possible for Tali or Garrus, however, especially since if you reject Garrus in the final scene, he goes away very dejectedly. Ugh, sometimes I hate Youtube. People are so cruel...

Yeah, these timelines and human years mess up everybody quite a bit. I mean, apparently Mordin is 30, but he's 50 in human years, which is way past a salarian's lifespan. I think I also read that Grunt may only be 2 weeks or something, but he's 22 in krogan years and such. I don't know about how long a turian year is.

Oh, sure, there are good points in turian society I'd like to experience, but when some of the drawbacks are quite permenant thinks, like boot camp, military and heavy public duty, it makes you wonder if it's something you want to do.

Oh, I was taught military procedure, handling of weapons, and everything you're supposed to know when you're in the military and with other people. It was pretty strict, but turians shouldn't have to handle any crap.

Yeah, turian boot camp was alright. I kept trying to escape, so I guess that says quite a bit about it, though.

Garrus started responding to this thread more frequently when I changed avatars, and the only time he ever seems to post here, he replies to me...

I believe making them romanceable in ME3 if you didn't romance them in ME1 or ME2 is a waste of resources. They already did the romance, why make another so each character has two romances? That's essentially 18 romance storylines. Ouch. Just making two more romances with 2 new characters in ME3 (one male, one female) should be enough. I'd prefer no new romances at all, though.

For that matter, I think it's strongly hinted that at least some of the characters will be romanceable in ME3. Oh, we're talking about more if you didn't romance say Garrus at all in ME2, if he's romanceable in ME3. I highly doubt that. It'd be foolish for them to do so, because Shepards who start the romance with Garrus in ME3 wouldn't have the precedence of the romance in ME2, which essentially means two different romances with the same character. Bad idea.

...Oh dear lord, Garrus is "interested" that way in chickens, isn't he?

...blueL, I honestly don't know what to say. Wow. That's so many different things.

I think no new romances at all would be the better path, but I think it'll be likely to go with "two new romances with two new characters in ME3", parce (dammit) because those that may start at ME3 and may not be able to get ME2 or 1 may feel a bit left out. I know they shouldn't start at the end of a trilogy, especially one with more of a story like ME3, but you can't deny people will do that, and they should be able to start a romance in it if they want to.
