In my opinion, ME3 should be about finishing the story, ending the Reaper threat and everything main mission related. The romances are part of Shep's life and should come to a conclusion in this last part. There were enough opportunities to start a relationship with someone in the first two games.

9 opportunities, even =p That's a lot. We don't need any more romances. Plus new romances in ME3 will be at a distinct disadvantage compared to the other ones.

Romancing Garrus, Tali, or Jack after rejecting them in the ME2 romance scenes in ME3 should be impossible. You broke their hearts by rejecting them.

I agree.

Yeah, right. But I need to ask something: is it love... or sex? (still waiting for a Garrus love (love, not just sex) dialogue)

Indeed, Cerrydd. The romance stories is fascinating, and so is the character interaction, but I think Bioware will be focusing more on the main mission. I'm not going to say they're going to leave romance behind in the dust and crappy, but it's not going to be as full flung. I don't think the Reapers are going to get destroyed by the super-ultra-amazing power of pink overflowing blasts of love.

I don't think anyone's suggesting that the games is going to be full of romance. Or if you mean that they aren't going to make two different romances per character, yea, I agree with you, that's unrealistic. I think what most of us want is at least as much romance content in ME3 as there was in ME1/ME2.

Oh, no, that wasn't what I was arguing against, but I meant that Bioware will have romance, and they will do it well, but I don't think they're going to put as much thought as two romances per character and such. The last sentence was humour (though I would definitely go WTF if Bioware did that)

I don't know what we mean by re-romance, actually. I meant starting it from scratch, but I also did bring up picking it up with rejection.

Well like I said, with Liara, Ashley, and Kaidan, they don't need to do anything special for intimacy, all they need to do is be there. Garrus and Tali need to do things special because of the interspecies difficulties. With Liara, Ashley, and Kaidan, rejecting intimacy is more "not in the mood" or "this isn't the time," with Garrus and Tali it's basically "this isn't going to work." If it's not going to work before the suicide mission, it's probably not going to work ever.

Yeah, I guess I can see that reromancing in the rejection sense may not be possible if you consider it as breaking the character's heart, and it probably does do that.

on a serious note yeah i understand, its just something i will never be
able to do, even to just experiment. Just like how i will never be an
ass to anyone to my teamates.

Not quite puppies, not quite the point, but just felt like posting it in response. It's most definitely fake, though.

But yeah, I can't be mean to save my own life. I can get angry, but that's a different matter entirely.

May be a little WTF, Ouendan once again (I am obsessed with it)

The song name, translated, means "That's what the world calls love". You can see what happens, even if you don't understand Japanese.

9 is enough ><. I'd rather see BW putting a lot of thought into the main story and wrapping up the romances than new romance options in ME3. People who stayed single because they couldn't find a soulmate among the provided LI's shouldn't be picky. :P

I think Garrus was only about the sex  in the first instance of Shepard suggesting it. By the time he goes to her room, I think it's something much more. He doesn't need to say it for it to be love. He says she is his only friend, he respects no one as much as her, and he want's this one thing to go right...I think he loves her.

The only reasons I could foresee any additional romances in ME3 are the following:

1. Some people will probably feel left out if there aren't any.

2. The demand for more LGBT content in the ME series, which the books indicate is a matter of fact difference that no one pays any heed to. I could see one or two bisexual characters being added to the party roster in ME3 for just this reason, assuming EA and BioWare listen to the fans.

They all seem to shut themselves off. It's pretty messed up if you spent all that time being so forward with Jacob only to reject him in the end. When you reject Miranda, she says "Always thinking about the job. No matter what you have to give up in the process." Sounds like the end of that. And Thane seems like he views going up to your room as a mistake, and reconsiders the relationship.

So long as we aren't adding bisexual romances to the characters who have already had heterosexual (I would say homosexual too if there were any) romances, then I'm fine with this.

I agree 100% with the bolded part, and I would really like to agree with the rest, but I'm not totally sure how I feel about it.  I need to think about it even more.  My main thing is I just really don't want the situation to be corny or OOC for either one of them.  Maybe if I knew more about turian romantic relationships (love, not sex), it would be easier for me to visualize.  Does love mean the exact same thing to everyone, in the whole galaxy?
I overthink everything, sorry.

eta:  Hendel is maybe the best character in that book.  I loved him!

lol. Well, the definition of 'love' in general is pretty hard to pin down as it is - human or not. Maybe I mean, if on a scale of sex to love, with sex being purly about a physical gratification, and love speaking to an emotional connection, he is at the love end of the scale by the romance end.

Some people view Garrus as loving Shepard by romance end, some people see the romance in ME2 as a window towards love. Either way, it's going to develop, if not already, into love in ME3. No worries.

I wouldn't mind if Garrus turned out to be bisexual in ME3. However, adding homosexual relationships in ME3 is a bit too late imo. If they wanted to include homosexual relations, BW should've done so in ME1 or 2. Starting a new romance in ME3 (if possible) won't give the same build up others had doing romances in the first two games. A romance in ME3 would have a too much sudden start.

As much as I support same sex romances in ME, I don't really see it happening.

Yeah. I just remember a discussion with a psychology student on one of these threads getting pretty heated once 'love' was introduced into the equation. Things got nasty, man! (which was almost ironic given the discussion topic. lol)

EDIT: re the 'homosexual' thing. I think that it is hard to view those relationships the same way with the alien characters, because the way we define gender and sexuality in western human culture comes down to two things (very basically. If yoiu want to get into the finer points of those issues, you're gonna need a bigger forum and a hell of a lot more free time). Our sex is defined by biology, our gender is defined by social convention (and ourselves, working within a set social and cultural convention). So aliens would hypothetically share neither share our biology or social and cultural conventions of gender. This means that even within a male/female split in their population, we couldn't necessarily make direct comparisons between what we class as man/woman and what they might class the same.

I've heard it said on these threads that some people do not like romanceing the alien characters because they view it as some kind of beastiality (which is crazy IMO because in my mind that is negated by the prescence of sentient thought), but it still brings up a valid point: for a straight man to fall for another male, he would be defying his normal sexual preference at the biological level (female being his preference and expected norm). If the same man falls for an alien, is he not acting equally outside his prefered biological sexuial preference?

Not that I'm pushing for them to introduce bisexuality into existing 'straight' characgters or anything. I just never understood why they made such a issue about the bisexual/gay option in the first place. Especially for FemSshep (who is CLEARLY bi). lol

Also, if this annoys anyone, I apologise. Sexual/gender politics fascinates me and this is just an opinion. I do not want to get dragged into flaming (not that that would ever happen on the Garrus thread. i love you guys. ^_^)

I think it wasn't even just about sex in the first place, because you have to break it off by telling him you'd rather be friends, even after the first flirt.

Kasumi's comment confirms this, in my opinion.  There's no way Garrus would feel that strongly about Shepard by the second flirt scene if he didn't already have some kind of attraction to her.  Just because he hadn't thought about having sex with her before doesn't mean he wasn't having some kind of feelings beyond respect and friendship for Shepard.  After all he does kind of flirt several times before she outright asks him for sex.  You have to admit it would be pretty hard to think sexually about someone who's a different species and ranks higher than you.  He knows human culture frowns on fraternization, and he doesn't really have a thing for humans either.  He either doesn't realize that he's attracted to her, or, more likely, he does, but rejects the idea offhand.

Either way, it doesn't make much sense for him to agree to have casual sex that could kill both of them before the suicide mission (both are needed for the mission) if there isn't already some kind of emotion there.  If he's agreeing to go that far for Shepard just because Shepard wants it (even if he doesn't), then he's the most amazing friend ever.   It makes more sense to me if he's just hesitant to admit that he really likes this idea of hers.

That said, I don't think Garrus is secretly in love with Shepard before the romance.  I just think he has a sort of crush on her.  Maybe the admiration runs a little deeper than platonic respect.

I think that'd seem too much like a retcon at this point.  And if they do add more romances, I think at least one should be bi or gay.  It wouldn't be fair that the arc couldn't have lasted as long as most of the other romances, but it would be better than nothing.

I love how we're in full on serious mode, now.

Though, that makes me think of something brought up ages ago, and I think it could be interesting to think about now. How do you think turians, or even Garrus, feel about homosexuality?

Collider wrote...

Ayup.

Garrus has a lot of crap happened, and probably happening to him, and Shepard's the only true friend he has left. If Shepard wants to be more than friends with him, he doesn't want to lose that. Sure enough he's going to have strong feelings about the relationship, and I think he'll try not to ruin it.
