Hey guys, i was playing around the idea of attempting to write a fanfic about Male Shepard and Garrus after destroying the collector base, i don't have a account on fanfiction and i'm to lazy to even make one, so i might post it here.

And damn man the garrus thread is so damn slow this week.

For those who are curious, I think I may have figured out how to determine which character will catch you when you leap on the shuttle and who you will catch from the fall during the suicide mission. Obviously, I was experimenting with Garrus in mind, trying to catch him and then getting him to catch me. I tried rotations with Tali, Legion, and Grunt, and never got it to work out right, but then I finally got it to work when I took Thane with me.

As much as I can figure, the character Shepard catches is always the one in the "dominant" position, that is on her left hand side after the last squad select scene before the final boss. What's tricky about this particular sequence is that sometimes, the person you pick first (who should be on your left) will still come up on your right. I reloaded five times, picked Garrus first twice and he came up on the right both times. Then, I picked him second and he still came up on the right both times. Then, on the last load, I picked him first again, and he finally came up on the left. Anyway, so long as the character in question is in that left hand slot, you will catch them.

Now, as far as I can tell, the squaddies have some kind of list that determines who catches Shepard as they jump for the shuttle. When I brought Tali with me, she ALWAYS caught me regardless of what slot Garrus was in. Same with Legion and the same with Grunt. Likewise, when I brought Thane with me, Garrus ALWAYS caught me regardless of what slot Garrus was in. So if you want as much Garrus and femshep saving each other's lives as you can get, a good combination for the final boss is Garrus and Thane and make sure Garrus is in the left hand slot as you start out.

Yes, I'm obsessive, I know, but I've seen lots of people asking about this, and as the romance has so little content compared to some of the others, what's wrong with milking it for everything we've got, eh?

My next mission is to try to get a video of Jacob saying that "cuttlebone" statement. Everyone wants to see it, but no one wants to actually romance Jacob to get it. I'm willing to take one for the team. Only thing...anyone have any advice for how I can get video when I only have the game on the Xbox? I can rig something I think, but some advice would be appreciated.

A certain author kind of ruined Muse for me, but I still think this is a good Garrus theme song. ^_^ It's got that cowboy feel.

YES.

Hrm. I've been combing my music library to find something adequately badass for a Garrus theme, and they're not really coming to me.  Evidently I'm not listening to the right kinds of music... PFF.

Though I think Marchin' On by OneRepublic feels good as a Garrus/Shepard friendship song, though I guess there are a a few somewhat romantic undertones in there.

Bah, I'll get work done eventually.

It's not badass at all, but I always thought "Losing Streak" by the Eels was a great song for the Garrus romance from his point of view. The actual song is a little too chipper for Garrus, but the words are great:

"Was I wrong about the world

It's a beautiful new place

Where else could a creep like me

Meet such a pretty face

Meeting every day with the rising sun

Looking up it's looking like

My losing streak is done

Used to always feel like

Wished that I was dressed better

Never had a lot of luck

Until I finally met her

Feeling like the weight that weighed a ton

Lifted off my shoulders now

My losing streak is done

Always felt like giving in

To the feeling I can't win

But I took it on the chin

Now I'm finally cashing in

Meeting every day with the rising sun

Looking up it's looking like

My losing streak is done

My losing streak is done

I said my losing streak is done

Did you hear me

I said my losing streak is done"

That "wished I was dressed better" line reminds me of the huge hole he had in his armor, or that yellow, green, and blue getup he wore that blended into the fish tank. It makes me laugh. And I know Garrus isn't a creep, but he does have a rather low opinion of himself following that Sidonis business.

Huh, they always make me think of Hellboy, but then I am a huge Hellboy fan. One reason I liked Thane so much as first because he looks so much like Abe Sapien. Then I find out, his look is based on Abe Sapien. Awesome stuff. Can't hold a candle to Garrus, of course. In a related note, does anybody know if Bioware based turians looks on anything in particular or did they just tell the artists "go draw cool aliens" and this is what they came back with?

That's an interesting question. Personally I think the Mass Effect universe has some of the most imaginative and well-fleshed-out alien races in all of Sci-Fi...and turians are surely near the top of that list.

Alright i'm going to give it a shot right now. Don't be to harsh, my first attempt. I think if the story turns out as well as i thought it could be the title will be:

                                                                                The silver chord

Neil shepard was casually limping towards the gunnery room, his mood and ego brighter than usual after single handedly destroying the collector base with a squad of 12 people, and got everyone out alive. He cannot wait to give the council the supposedly huge "I told you so" by presenting them all the evidence he gathered. Also telling The Illusive Man to shove it made him smirk quite a bit. The doors to the gunnery room opened and there stood Garrus Vakarian grinning, charismatic as ever.

"First the saren and now the collectors. Remind me to never get on your bad side shepard."

Neil chuckled "Well garrus you know me, i don't think i'd ever need to remind you."

"Right, so what now commander. We are just going to sit back and relax before the real...uh, whats that human phrase? ****storm arrives?"

"Hell garrus, i wish that was the case all the time. But i need to try to convince the council to open up their eyes and accept that the galaxy has a real threat on its hands."

Garrus growled, which suprised Neil since he rarely sees garrus angry. "Do we really need to entangle ourselves in damn politics again shepard? I know what your trying to do but its hopeless! All politicians, the council included, are a bunch of blind, pathetic, arrogant and oblivious wastes of life. We already have a kick ass team, a ship, krogan, geth, rachni, and possible quarian allies what else do we need?"

Neil frowned at this, slowly sitting down. Garrus slowly began to frown as well thinking if he said something wrong.

"Well...thats the thing Garrus. I have a bad feeling the the council won't do anything you know why?"

Neil paused for several seconds, rubbing his fingers against his goattee.
"I think i am unintentionally turning into the person that i hated 2 years ago. I have a army of geth, a rachni queen, krogans, quarians. Christ Garrus! I think i'm even worse then saren. On top of that, i was working for some damn pro-human terrorist group. None of this is going to make me look good when i present myself."

"Shepard, listen to yourself talk! What the hell are you saying? Saren was selfish and a coward. He was the one who gave in to the reapers, killing many people of your kind along with innocent lives on the citadel for his own ideals."

Garrus's mandibles twitched while he crossed his arms.
"Are you telling me that the only damn friend i have left in this galaxy is a monster and a traitor?"

Joker chimed in. "Commander we are 30 minutes out till we hit the citadel"

"Good joker. Tell the crew that i will allow a two day shore leave starting immediatley when we arrive.I think we all deserve it."

Neil smirked "Also tell them to party responsibly, i don't want to drag out some poor drunk passed out basterds from C-SEC holding cells."

"Gotchya commander."

Neil turned his head to Garrus. "That includes you to Garrus, enough of your damn callibrations and get a little sloppy for once. I can handle the council myself."

Garrus was about to protest when Neil interrupted him. "Don't worry about me, i'll catch up with you at the Dark Star and we'll have a couple drinks. How does that sound?"

Garrus rolled his eyes "Yes commander"

(2 hours later)

Garrus was getting worried about his commander. He was sitting alone at the Dark star, still annoyingly sober, and Shepard was nowhere in sight. He sighed under his breath and decided to go back to his bunk the catch some sleep. Everyone on the ship was out on shore leave except for thane meditating in his room. He entered the Normandy's elevator when he heard a loud shattering crash on the upper levels of the ship.

(Shepard's cabin)
Commander Shepard. We decided that there was not enough credible evidence for us to acknowledge the existence of the reapers

Neil was sitting on his couch staring deeply at the model ship of Sovereign.

Anyone with a fascinating and insane imagination could make up this data. You are no exception.

Shepard ran his hands through his hair. Remembering what Anderson said to him.

Damn political bullcrap! I'm sorry shepard, those three won't know a threat even if its shoved up their ass. I am still here though and i believe. I will do everything in my own power to assist you. Though it won't be much i will always be right behind you.

"Dismiss this you poor sacks of ****!!"

He then grabbed Sovereign's model ship and then chucked it as hard as he could toward his collection of model ships encased in a wall of glass.

I was just currious as they have explicitly stated with Thane that his look was based on Abe Sapien.  Makes me wonder if they based other characters or races on some characters in particular or if they just used animals.  (Hence, all the comparisions of turians to cats, dinosaurs, birds, dragons, and everything else known to man.)  I already said a few pages back that turians seem to have a lot of Todd Lockwood dragon in them, and that's makes sense.  If you remember the dragon models from Neverwinter Nights, they strongly resemble the sketches in the 3rd addition D&D Monster Manuel and those sketches were all done by Lockwood.  So I'd think the Bioware artists would have some experience with Lockwood drawings.  Maybe it was just subconscious, but I still think there is a resemblance.

I wonder if they got like 6 concept artists together and told them each to contribute something, then they put it through a computer program to meld the ideas together...or something like that...

Found this song that I believe suits Garrus pretty well. Depends on when exactly it's fit, either after the Normandy is destroyed, his time on Omega etc. www.youtube.com/watch

Why can't you see what's in front of you?  Because you took a rocket to the face, silly.

And yeah I like this song...downloading it...

Well, this was their process for Thane, though I don't know whether it would be considered typical for all of the game's character designs.  Nonetheless, voilà.

Also, Garrus.

And I would have liked to see Thane with those three metal rings on his ear (or whatever) but oh well.

I also find it really funny that the whole "Jude Law" thing was supposed to be the fangirl net, but the net that caught me was actually Abe Sapien.  That's pretty funny.  Women are pretty hard to predict apparently.  What do you think the Bioware reponse was to the very first "I want Garrus for LI" thread?  Probably some guys facepalming or looking imploringly up at the heavens or just sitting there slack-jawed wearing WTF expressions.  I bet it was funny, whatever it was.

I think I remember hearing them say that they never expected people liking a "cricket" =p It's a good thing that thread was around, otherwise there would be no Garrus romance probably.

That Thane thing was pretty cool. Also, props to the designers for consulting the women staff. Just like the 'Garrus needs wine!' bit.

Sadly, I'm trying to be healthy this week, so instead of wine, chocolate soy milk. Can you hear the excitement in my voice?

Hmmm...normally I don't play on weeknights, but I'm kind of in the mood now...

Yeah, haha...they spent all this time and energy on Thane (who was conceived first and foremost as an LI) and then all the Garrus love...I have actually grinned ear to ear in the past trying to imagine a bunch of baffled writers breaking out in a sweat trying to figure out how to incorporate it. LOL!
Once again, I'm overwhelmed by BioWare fangirlosity
(but even more by Garrus fangirlosity):wub::wub:
