On the subject of Nihlus, I thought it was interesting that BioWare totally faked us out by giving him a full character profile on the the website (like Tali or Ashley) before the game's release (and not giving Garrus one) which led me to believe he might end up being a Sagacious Zu / Jolee Bindo type character, dispensing occasional advice to the player while serving as a party member.

Then he died. Surprise.

Zu was awesome.

He just wouldn't stop complaining.

Also regarding Turians I noticed that they explained Saren's head structure as something that was an oddity, but I haven't seen any other Turians like that either.

Does anyone remember what Nihlus's fingers looked like or is Garrus the odd man out?

Nihlus and all other turians share a similar hand model.  Saren is the odd man out.
And Saren had the weird cheek plates as well as the TUBES coming out of the back of his head.
Saren was just messed.

I thought so.  Part of that were cybernetics I assumed but the other was that he was part of a minority.  I'd be curious if they ever do more designs like him because his character does stand out compared to all of the other turians.

Let me just ask since the name pluse the "At your own risk" has given me some pause in the matter....would I save myself some embarassment if I waited for my roommate to be elsewhere before clicking?

Yes, although it's just words and no pictures (so maybe easier to hide it).  Just let me put it this way...the site solicits people to think of...um, "romantic pairings" between anyone and anyone else and someone has to write it and make it happen.  Bear in mind, the other person isn't always 1) just one other person or 2) an animate being.

Ohh Lividity, linky please! :D
And I see Garrus as definitely protective of Shepard...he'd understand but be watching very carefully in case the whole thing goes bad.

I would link it if I could find it...

The Mass Effect section of Fanfiction.net is flooded with Garrus fics.

Really??  You mean there are more Garrus fics than Tali fics?  I would think Tali had the most, followed by Garrus and maybe Liara.

There are vastly more Garrus fics than Tali fics. Not to mention Tali fics that are actually worth reading.

TBH, I thought JE, though having a great story, had kind of shallow characters (by BioWare standards) for the most part. Zu was definitely one of my favorites, though Wild Flower and Silk Fox were pretty well-writen too.

EDIT: On the subject of fan fic, I reiterate: fan fic writers are usually female. It's a well-known phenomenon, actually.

Since Garrus is the most popular female romance according to several polls (particularly among the nerdy types who write fan fics) it's little surprise he dominates the fan fic arena.

Oh and let's not forget the drell/hanar fems...

Good point about drell, but given that hanar are basically giant space jellyfish, I doubt they have sexes as we understand them. Besides, even if they did, how would you tell the difference? For all we know we've only seen female hanar.

Yea I realize the hanar are evilspace jellies, but even if they're all single sex, we don't know.  No codec entry to tell us if they have gender.  Be interesting to know.

We know drell have females, but since Thane, Feron and Koylat are the only ones we've seen in cannon, hard to think what their fems would look/be like.

Still... want fem turians.  So bad.  My favorite OC has gender identity crisis over this fact!

Totally.  Maybe it's sexist to say, but I think guys tend to be more visual and girls tend to be more verbal with sexuality.

Silk Fox was my first ever romance option.

Ah, nostalgia...

Meh.

I enjoy writing far too much not to write fics.

Considering the fanart I have seen; I am leaning towards an even split between females and males doing them. I am not savvy in fanfiction, so I have no set opinion on that.

I think Saren looks so distinct is because he's a villan.   A really good one too (if you ignore the crappy characterization from the novel.)  I'd love to come across another turian with a similar make up though.  About the only difference in the turians other than some slight facial shape distinctions I've seen is shorter/curlier frill.  That's about the extent of "difference" I've seen, oh other than the obvious "plating"/skin colors.  Then there's their tattoos, but those are artificial changes, not natural ones.

Would you like to 'meet' Charla? Not as good as the real thing, no picture yet (because nobody will draw her for me), but I have a physical description as well as a psych. profile.

It's just statistical. It doesn't mean there aren't male fan writers. Hell, even Neil Gaiman and David Gaider have been known to write fan fiction. But the majority of fan fic writers (in the reverse of the professional writing world) are female.

Agreed. They did an amazing job on turians. I especially like Nihlus' appearance, even if he did die 5 minutes in <_<

That would be some pretty kickass fanfics.

But I understand your point. Strange how it is the inverse of the professional world.

According to the artbook, the designs for Saren were actually the very first of turians. Saren was intentionally designed to look intimidating and villainous, the art team designed turians after they settled on Saren. Of course they toned down the evil look but kept many features to support Saren's appearance.

Unless you count GameStop.  I've only ever seen one female employee.  ONE.

Sure, I'm speaking in generalities.  Eh, it's not even worth making generalities though.  And I've liked a lot of the fics I've read that were written by guys, so I'm not suggesting theres any deficiency in talent or ability or anything.

Eh? Not sure what you're getting at there. We were talking about fan fiction being most written by women while published fiction is dominated by male writers.
