Yea, we do less fighting than anybody.  I like to think it's because very few people actually really dislike Garrus so we don't have to defend him all that much.  If you feel cornered and threatened, you tend to get nasty in my experience not that that justifies namecalling or anything, but I can kind of understand it.

Oh, and we are all awesome.  There's that too.

Most character have something people can pick at (not my opinions btw)
Jacob is sort of boring
Miranda comes across as cold and unfeeling
Most Tali hate is directed at the fanbase
Jack is kind of psycho
But there is literally nothing bad you can say about Garrus

People think hes "Whiny and annoying." and i heard some people think that hes a lose bullet and a nutjob. i really don't understand why though.

Actually, there is a lot of garrus hate. We just don't see it on the open forums, just in their own individual fanbases. Like i said, the miranda, liara, ashley and kaidan fans kind of despise garrus. Mostly because they think hes "annoying and whiny"

I have never seen Garrus whine once.

I think they do. Garrus came from a hard background, his mother is not even mentioned so we can assume that she died. His father is like a C-SEC veteran or hero and always cracked the whip on garrus. And he was pretty fed up with it. Thats one of the reasons why he was so eager to jump aboard the shepard's rag-tag alien train.

Yes, they do. Kind of. Wiki

But that's more about individuals, though.

Dude needs to grow a spine and stop letting Shepard guide his morality. And he's a slow calibrater. Also a cocky sniper. And his eyepiece is stupid.

Most of the hatred I have seen directly stems from the fact that those groups consider Garrus competition.  With Miranda it's the "second in command" thing.  With Kaidan it's the "most popular femshep LI" thing and fans of the old LIs tend to resent ME2 LIs in a lump sum because they feel cheated.  None of it has to do with valid objections to the quality of the character which is why most of them keep their darn traps shut around Garrusophiles.  They have no legs to stand on and they know it.  I still think the Garrus hate is quite muted for this reason and because his hatedom is very small compared to most other characters.  He tends to dominate popularity polls on both romance/bromance front.  Obviously, I'm biased and I admit but I also think I could dig up a lot of evidence if I had to.

Overbearing military father? Sounds like a certain quarian I know
I wonder if he got preferential treatment because of his father, if he did he would probably hate the idea

I remember a post from much earlier in this thread (enormousmoonboots, perhaps? anyone remember?) and it was hilarious...it was a defense of why Garrus isn't "whiny". Something along the lines of "Oh, yeah, he's so whiny...he's just been up for 2 straight days killing hundreds of mercenaries and heavy mechs BY HIMSELF while sitting atop the bodies of his dead friends who were killed because his trusted team member betrayed him, and then he survived getting hit with a MISSILE TO THE FACE and nearly dying, but then when he first wakes up the first thing he does is crack a joke...oh yeah, he's really whiny!" LOL

I wish I could find the post, goodness knows I tried :D

Maybe, he explained to us that his fathers is a "by the rules book" kind of a person. He does not think very well of humans, and spectres. So being close friends or romancing shepard is like the biggest way to say FU to his dad.

The first one never sees him coming. All the rest are talking about the cocky sniper who gloated over the initial headshot.

Ragabul, your posts are very consistently erudite and well-thought-out. I nominate you to be Garrus's lawyer, should he ever require one.

Well, he does go vigilante regardless of what you do in ME1 so....I'd say he definitely takes things into his own hands there.

The other stuff's just personal taste in the vein of "Jack's boobstraps are stupid."  "Jacob's got funny teeth" and "quarians talk funny."  None of that has anything to do with the quality of the character's personality or story and we might as well fight over the color of wallpaper.

So very true. He never whines, when he wants to something done or fixed he takes the initiative and does something about it. He wanted to kill both Saleon and Sidonis yet he doesn't complain if Shepard disagrees.

I did.  I must have to get my Master Googler status revoked, because apparently I couldn't remember enough of the relevant keywords.  Normally, my head is crammed with such nonsense.  I fail on this one. /headdesk

His choice in wine is substandard and he is tone deaf when it comes to musical seduction.

Guys, we have all these guests from the Tali thread and elsewhere and we have nothing to serve...where is our hospitality? What would Papa Vakarian say??

I'll just leave this here in case anyone is hungry. Enjoy! :D

Thanks!  But I like to think Garrus doesn't need a lawyer.  He can take care of any potential problems with a well-placed shot between the eyes from 300 yards.

About Garrus holding the line, I think that's a really good way to look at it - that he isn't later on the chart of deaths because he would try to protect everyone else. It's better than anything I could think of, and the list I found didn't give the order I thought it would be, but at least we know now.

kglaser wrote...

I never really understood Liara very well. I'm about to go get her in ME1 again, so maybe this time I can pay better attention or something...I don't know, I tried to feel something for her...

One of my Shepards will romance Liara, but he's happier with her ME2 personality. The one thing he didn't like about her was that she seemed a little too innocent and naive for him (not saying she's completely innocent or naive, just more than my Renegon), and ME2 sort of... fixed that for him. He really liked her in ME1, and he loves her now that he knows she fought off Collectors to give his body to Cerberus for resurrection - to him, that shows she really cares.

As for my other Shepards... well, they all have different opinions. One of them does not trust asari mind-melding at all. There's another one who only reluctantly agrees to the mind-melding because the fate of the galaxy (which includes him) is at risk, but he worries that she'll see too much in his mind or look for more than just the Prothean visions. xD This is an Earthborn Ruthless Shepard who would like certain parts of his past to stay hidden.

Anyway, I think the only character that all of my Shepards like and trust is Garrus. There are probably a few others that they all like, but not necessarily trust.
