OMG I use to live in Houston way back in the day.  I always hoped in the ME universe Houston is still important because of NASA.  Here in Florida I still get to see the shuttle launches.  At least until now that the program's ending.

Actually, now that I think about it, my dad use to work for the Houston PD...he was such a by-the-book guy and do-things-right-or-not-at-all type.  His nickname on the force was 'Mr. Rogers'.

Seriously.  I think I have the human version of Garrus's dad.

Here is the fic with the baby. I hope I am not being evil for doing this but mutant babies seem so wrong.

Man...I clicked on that...I hope that friggin' counts as time on Puragtory.  Er...the real-but-invisible Purgatory, I mean....Posted Image

I have it as one of Earth's oldest spaceports in my fics, so I hope so, too.

Garrus always appealed to me because of the comradeship aspect. Tali has that too of course.

Part of the reason Garrus has that aspect is because he listens to what Shepard says. He respects Shepard greatly and takes those words of advice or wisdom into consideration. But at the same time, he is his own person - Shepard isn't molding Garrus by any means. Garrus looks up to Shepard as someone who can get things done without fearing the red tape of the council (to an extent if you're paragon). He really shined in ME2 - both Garrus and Tali did. Garrus has those "old times" comments that really solidifies his relationship and friendship with Shepard. Garrus is the kind of guy who will always have your back and someone you can trust. It's really nice to have that when you are surrounded by Cerberus and have TIM breathing down your neck.

Yep, they're the ones you got to say "That why I need you here, I need some oen thats not Cerberus that I can trust." Both to Tali and Garrus. ^_^

I read somewhere (one of the novels I think) that in the ME universe most of Texas is dominated by a giant metropolis comprised of Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio all run together and that a lot of it is slums.  This makes me :(  However, I think it says that Kahlee Sanders, one of the major characters in both novels is from there.  It also means that that giant slum is a very likely origin for an Earthborn Shepard.  Those things make me :)

On fanfic, I usually skip all the buildup and skip right to the lemony stuff (that's assuming it's romance fic, of course which is what I think most people here are talking about).  If that is well-written it's usually indicative that the build-up is good too.  If it's wild and OCC, then I know not to waste my time on the fic.  I don't really like fanfic where people make up whole new plotlines.  I just like the ones that sort of fill the immediate gaps in the game.

lol makes sence Shep would come from Texas. Not to sound biased or overly proud but Texans have a thing for building leaders.

They missed Austin.  And yes, I can see that.  Except for the ranchers.  They have ridiculous power in the state legislature.

If Kahlee's from Texas I'm assuming her father is as well.  Jon Grissom was the first human to lead a team through a mass relay.  That's awesome stuff.

I actually prefer fanfic that has its own unique plotline. I have no gripe with stuff that re-enacts the events of the game, but I've already played the game like four times, I'd rather read something different. However there aren't too many unique-plot multi-chaptered fics. I think my favourite re-enactment is probably Where Angels Fear To Tread on ff.net. It doesn't actually go into all the individual missions, but more focuses on the events surrounding the specific Shep/Garrus interaction and a HUGE amount of introspection leading up to the Omega scene. I adore it <3.  For unique-plot stuff I love the fic Modus Operandi (also ff.net).

Yea, I noticed that too.  I was like, heh, what happend to Austin.  Well, people in Austin often jokingly say they inhabit an island surrounded by a sea that is Texas.  Maybe that's still the case.

I didn't mean repeating the game.  I meant literally showing us the scenes we DIDN"T see in the games.  What happens after the fade to black in the romance scene?  Just what did Garrus ask Mordin?  Where and when did he buy that wine?  How did the other crewmembers find out about the relationship?  And introspective following scenes in the game.  That kind of thing.  That's the kind of thing I prefer.

^ concerning squick-fic:

I will give the author the fact that they at least tried to give a semi-coherent explaination as to how it happened. Doesn't gross me out any less though. However- this is weird, but one of my bigger nitpicks is the idea that Shepard would take on Garrus' surname. >_<
