Rune, I just desktop'd the dancing one all over again. I don't know what it is...the Astaire-ness of Garrus's stance, the sheer joyous way Tali is posed...but I love it.

Gah, you guys, so much to catch up with! Now I need to dredge this up from about 10 pages earlier X_X

1. Which would you prefer?
a) If you romance Garrus in ME2, you have an entirely different conversation set that has to do with the romance.
If you romance Garrus in ME2, you have the same conversation set as everyone else (including Male Shepards), but interspersed within the conversations is some romance dialog.

I'd probably go with . The romance isn't the main focus of the story, but it would definitely be nice to have some more acknowledgement of it.

2. Preferred ending for the Garrus romance? Conclusive? Ambiguous? Marriage or no marriage? Living together somewhere quietly? Fighting criminals as vigilantes (Batman and Batwoman?) or officers? Etc.

Conclusive, please. It's the end of Shepard's story, I don't want any more cliffhangers. However, I also think that she's not the marrying type. And neither is Garrus. As someone else said, living together happily doesn't need to involve marriage. Especially since Shep and Garrus are very unlikely to have any children (only way would be to adopt, but I don't see them doing that), so they don't need the administrative stability that marriage provides for children either.

3. If there is banter ala Dragon Age or KOTOR in ME3, which squad mates would you most like to see Garrus bantering with?

I'm in the minority that doesn't think Tali and Garrus have that close of a relationship: Tali really didn't sound amused when he teased her. Now, I don't know how they interacted in ME1, because I've never had them together on my team (I always tried to have a mix of melee, tech and biotics), so maybe they were more friendly to each other then...But I can see Garrus chatting to Thane or Grunt, or a wary but curious Jacob trying to find out what the big deal about him is. I can also see Kasumi being curious about him.

4. What do you think some of the squad mates would think of FemSheps' relationship with Garrus? Congratulate him/her? Tease him/her?

Samara and Thane would be happy for them. I don't see Thane being jealous: he's pretty zen if you don't romance him. Kasumi would be happy and teasing, as she already is. Tali would be happy and perhaps a little wistful; not jealous, but I'm sure she'd also like to have a sweetheart *pushes Kal into the engineering room, grabs Ken and Gabby and gets out* Mordin would be interested in the opportunity to study the behavioural patterns of an interspecies relationship. Zaeed might raise an eyebrow, but I don't think he'd be too icked (he did date an asari himself). Miranda, Grunt and Jack wouldn't care. Jacob would disapprove, but not too vocally (unless he got dumped for Garrus, that is). Legion would be building consensus. ME1 people: non-romanced Liara would be a little upset, but ultimately happy for them, non-romanced Kaidan would be surprised, but also happy, Ashley would be shocked and probably disapprove, and Wrex would laugh the fringe off Garrus' head.

5. Best weapon for Garrus? Assault rifle or sniper rifle? Why is this even a question? "Scoped and dropped!"

6. Would you rather want fixed armor in blue or loyalty color? Either one is fine. The loyalty one also has blue in it.

7. What was the best armor for Garrus in ME1 aside from the default or Colossus (appearance wise)? I kinda liked him in Silverback.

8. Is femShep's power level over 9000? Totally. Garrus' scouter don't lie.

8. What kind of dialog would you like to see in Garrus' romance in ME3? Would "I love you" or some variant thereof be too cheesy? Is it better that it would be implied, but not really said?

Implied, but I prefer ANY relationship to have "I love you" implied. It seems more powerful when you don't need words to express it. As long as it's clear that they do love each other.

9. How long after ME2 do you think ME3 will start? Anything between days to a month. Couple of months might be pushing it, plus Mordin and Thane probably don't have very long left.

10. What do you think the conversation between Garrus and Kaidan/Liara would be like if you cheated on your ME1 love interest?

Kaidan would be disappointed, but he wouldn't go berserk over it. At most, he might try a guilt trip, but I don't think that's likely: he knows he reacted like a douche on Horizon. Liara's more of a wildcard...considering what she was like in ME2 and the fact that she's ultimately responsible for bringing Shepard back, she might not take it too well.

11. How much do you want romances to affect the ME3 storyline? A lot? A little? The same as ME2 and/or ME1?

The same as ME1. ME2 romances were not very consequential to the story at all. ME1 had the lockdown scene and the potential to tell your LI that you just couldn't leave them behind on Virmire (which I'd never say, but it was still there).

12. How many days will the Bioware staff survive while under siege by angry fans if Garrus is not is given a small cameo in ME3? You'd probably want to change "days" to "minutes" or "hours".

And a random final comment about Tali cuteness, since someone mentioned her reaction while being romanced. During her LM initiating convo, she tells Shep that she's scared about the trial. Her tone was just so adorable when she said that; I literally went "d'awww".

And Hyrule_Gal, that was some great Mordin'ness

 I think perhaps FemSheps get the comment about their being friends because that is how Garrus is justifying their romance to himself. We know they are friends: it’s a given and doesn’t need said (at least with an ME1 Garrus. To be honest, I’m quite disappointed at the lack of variation between conversation with a Garrus you have/have not recruited in ME1. There is no way the relationship can be the same, so you end up just having to reinterpret lines of dialogue and some of it doesn’t quite work, IMO.) I think Garrus needs to say it out loud because he is trying to rearrange his feelings for Shepard in his head, and needs to work out where he is to see where he’s going. Emotions are something Garrus needs to consider carefully. 
  I guess it comes back to the greedy for dialogue thing. There are subtle changes in the conversations (done to make it easier for the devs to get the conversations out there, I guess. I understand why it needed to not be too different, but given the paltry amount of dialogue Garrus has anyway, couldn’t there have been a conversation or 2 specific to his history with Shepard?) but it’s not enough for me. Especially concerning how Garrus came to be on Omega. He says “after you defeated Saren, I left C-Sec. I burned too many bridges there.” In game, he leaves C-Sec before Shepard tells him he can’t come with. So what? Did he reenlist? Did he loiter on the Citadel for a few weeks? I know the timeframe on ME1 is fairly narrow, but still.
 
 I know this is an old gripe, but I really wish there had been different conversations for romancing/bromanicng someone. The ‘reach/flexibility’ conversation with Garrus works pretty well for both, but some of the other characters feel like they’ve had their relationships cut and pasted. Tali in particular: I was quite surprised when after her ‘suit linking’ comment, she wasn’t a romancable option for my FemShep. I know they are good friends, but given her crush on Shep since ME1, and the fact that linking suits seems like it’s about the most intimate gesture a quarian can offer another, I was left going ‘um… and?’ It felt like an odd point to cut that relationship development off, to be honest. People are keen for a ‘romance pack’ DLC where we get better/more dialogue with our LIs, some sense of closure over the post-endgame status of the relationships, and maybe a mission or 2. I would LOVE this. However, in the event of something like that, I’d also love to see some DLC to improve the character interaction on a platonic level as well. Especially for bromances and LIs that were rejected at stage one of the flirtation where there are no hard feelings.

Garrus always appealed to me because of the comradeship aspect. Tali has that too of course.

Part of the reason Garrus has that aspect is because he listens to what Shepard says. He respects Shepard greatly and takes those words of advice or wisdom into consideration. But at the same time, he is his own person - Shepard isn't molding Garrus by any means. Garrus looks up to Shepard as someone who can get things done without fearing the red tape of the council (to an extent if you're paragon). He really shined in ME2 - both Garrus and Tali did. Garrus has those "old times" comments that really solidifies his relationship and friendship with Shepard. Garrus is the kind of guy who will always have your back and someone you can trust. It's really nice to have that when you are surrounded by Cerberus and have TIM breathing down your neck.

I don’t think Shepard would never get married, I just don’t think s/he would ever settle down and do the white picket fence thing. I totally think Shepard would make that commitment to someone, but it’s like where would they find time for a wedding between all the badassing around the galaxy? (Anyone read the Live Ship Traders? There is a relationship in that which totally makes me think Shep/Garrus, with a conclusion that makes me think Shep/anyone.) So I guess I don’t think Shepard will ever settle down. And I don’t think this because I think Shepard is out to defy convention, or anything. I just think that a life away from the action would grate on Shepard. S/he is a soldier, through and through. And a damn fine and passionate one at that. As long as there’s injustice and evil in the galaxy… etc etc.

Re: the Turian bartender. I had a theory that he was Garrus’ disgruntled Turian cousin. Garrus joined C-Sec (family pride) quit and followed Shepard (family disappoint), defeated Saren and Sovereign (family pride again), then disappeared off the face of the galaxy (family black-sheep status affirmed). It’s not the fact that Garrus did this that disgruntled him though. It’s the fact that Garrus, one way or another, is being a supreme galactic badass, while he’s stuck at that damn bar on the citadel, listening to humans whine about their day and ask his advice. Basically, he’s more than a little bit bitter.

The refund guy is another member of Clan Vakarian who lives on the citadel. He is also a little bit bitter, but he makes himself feel better by winding up humans, so he’s happy in his work. They aren’t exactly a close family, but oh the gossip that will ensue when Garrus and FemShep announce they are in love!
 
Going through those soundfiles really made me appreciate again the quality of the VA in this game. Brandon Keener made me well up when talking about Garrus' men. And that was totally out of context. More Garrus dialogue can only be a good thing. I want to hear his thoughts on the Sidonus thing afterwards. Really hoping that comes into play in ME3.... (I was looking for specific ones for ringtones. Lack of internets made it so that I had to find new ways of amusing myself last night. Just in case anyone thinks I'm weirder than usual now. )

I don't know if I could see Shepard and Garrus settling down. I could see them getting married, but only on a ceremonial level.



As for a conclusion for the romance in Mass 3, I'd like a few options.



One of those options should be for the two of them to spend the rest of their lives on Omega together, a duo of Vigilante badasses against a million of the galaxy's worst slavers. criminals, and murderers.



At least this time, Garrus won't ever have to worry about being betrayed...
