So I kind of have been following what people have talked about, regarding Garrus needing to find himself or be himself or what have you.
Lots of good points.

I think I'm going just be a goober and do my umpteenth play through of ME1. My perfect PT.
I just found the spot on the Citadel that Kaiden flirts with Shepard /facepalm
EDIT: Oh hey top of the page!

Yeah. That female turian was in the military, damnit. Would be even more hypocrite to say if your Shep punched that reporter.

I never took that line that way.  I thought it was more Shep acknowledging Garrus' BAMF status, not being sexist.

I agree with you on this Sialater.  I took it as Shepard giving him a compliment, trying to support his ego a little.

Well, now I wonder how Garrus would have reacted if my Shepard said "she wiped the floor with you, didn't she?"

.... Probably would have responded "no, that wasn't until later."

I'm tempted to go with Mordin's School of Logic and say the determining factor is the ability to perform calculus. This will also cut out some of the gene pool of my own species.

I failed Calculus.  Is my husband going to jail? :?

But then, why did he leave C-SEC to pretend to be like shepard on omega? And i really don't see why garrus tagging along with shepard till the very end seems like a bad idea to you. I think that they've known each other for quite some time now that garrus wouldn't just "drop off the grid" or disappear once the threat is over, even if he does want to live his own life hes probably going to keep in close touch with shepard and see him/her every so often.

Well, he left C-Sec after learning of Shepard's death, so he's been working on the Citadel after Saren's defeat. My guess is Shepard wanted him to go back to being a C-Sec officer so he'll eventually become a Spectre (also, probably because he/she wasn't doing anything better at the time, except fighting small batches of geth.) Probably didn't want to hold everyone together till something important happened.

As for why he dropped off the grid, well, Shepard meant a lot to him, one way or another. Probably just wanted to hurt as many street thugs as possible after learning his/her death.

There's a difference between "capable of calculus" and "has put in the time and work necessary to learn calculus to a practical degree of proficiency".

If you count my respect as a bonus.  I might as well have been trying to teach myself the native turian dialect without a textbook.

I guess that counts. Trying to learn a new language is always hard though.

I do love studying languages. I have textbooks for about 16 different ones, including Pidgin and aUI (ConLang for communicating with extraterrestrials). I learn a few things, get bored, and move on to the next. LOL

The only two besides English where I know anything are French and Russian.

Any of you guys wonder what would have happened if Shepard didn't show up and save Garrus? He'd probably be dead, but a part of me thinks it wouldn't have been because he couldn't escape. I bet after putting his men into body bags, and living in a doomed future without Shepard, he expected to die there. He's not the suicidal type to just kill himself, but I doubt he wanted to keep going after losing everything. He might have just wanted to keep fighting till they finally killed him.

I think that's exactly right. He just figured it was a losing battle...didn't put himself in that situation to kill himself (a depressed turian would surely choose a more honorable method of suicide), but figured if it was a lost cause, he would take as many down as he could. I do believe he was just about out of time and stamina when you showed up. He was completely exhausted. They did a good job in the game of giving you that sense of urgency, that you had to go get him...Aria's comment of "he's just about done" drives that home.

I always did imagine that would have been his last stand. And what a way to go, taking on three mercenary groups all at the same time, and they were just as exhausted as he was.

Garrus shows how much of a badass he is. He took down a Gunship with a sniper and held that dingy apt for over a day. Nothing says badass like that.

I think he may be in the top 5 badass characters I've seen in anything. I'm gonna make a list. Seriously, the level of badassery here needs to be recognized in some sort of list. :D

Well, the Trinity of Badassery of Mass Effect are made up of Shepard, Wrex, and Garrus.

Still, what Garrus did was not easy. Even the mercs where surprised of how much trouble they where having with him. I wonder, all those bodiebags in the apt, are those his dead squadmates or the mercs he killed inside the apt?

I'm sure he kept them in plain view to punish himself for letting down his squad. Poor Garrus. :(
