Mate may just mean for Turians someone who you reproduce with - possibly similar to the mating contracts of the Salarians. That doesn't mean that Turians don't have something like marriage, or another term for long lasting relationships though. So far as Garrus goes, I am very certain that his relationship with Shepard is going to be long lasting.

Oh, Xsause. While we are on banners:

Clan Vakarian: Because our love of Garrus and alcohol will never die.

(we came up with that one while you were AWOL. This made us sad. lol)

I <3 you, Xsause. I <3 you with all my <3.  :D

And new DLC, with new dialogue! I will not allow myself to hope for more Garrus, but new missions are always awesome!

@Hyrule_gal

Awesome! But I am somewhat concerened that you seem to be implying that penguins are not badass. Have you ever seen a penguin charge? Fearsome!

I guess we can't really say either way how turians do the mate/committment thing. I'm pretty sure that sex and love are not mutually exclusive concepts for them (reach/flexibility), but aside from that, we don't have enough info. But if you think about it, humans have a wide veriety of customs and gestures to symbolise commitment accross our cultures, so it's possible turians have coloney-specific traditionsor ways of doing things. Plus, it always comes down to an individual relationship.... Yeah... Shep and Garrus are in it for the long-haul.

Somewhat related, anyone see the 'Renegade Shepard will have to kill Garrus because the turians will try to destroy humanity' thread earlier? Made me sad. lol.

This... makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE.

Xenophobic Shepard, sure.  But just painting it on Renegade Shepard is a bit... well, dumb.

And I doubt, at this point, that Turians would be able to wipe out humanity.  They had a shot when humans made First Contact. Now?  They may still have the FNG shine, but they're too entrenched.  It'd be a move that would be monumentally stupid, ESPECIALLY with Harby knocking on the door.

I looked at the Renegades Beware thread. I  expected to laugh, but I was just facepalming at the fail.

It's the 'renegade beware' thread. I don't understand why anyone would expect Garrus to side with...anyone over Shepard at this point. Even jerk-Shepard.

Aand you are right: some people do not use logic.

For some reason, I can never play as a complete Renegade Shepard. I just can NOT let that Batarian on Mordin's recruit mission die (even if it costs me a dose of medi-gel), or leave that Salarian on Thane's recruit mission who got shot up by mechs/guards bleed to death.

I do, however, always electrocute Cathka and kill Elnora. Don't know why, maybe it's just me. :?

Even Renegade Shep is generally nice to Garrus.

I have a hard time using the Paragon interupts... like ever.

Maybe for those Batarians and the Salarian, but that's cause I don't NEED the gel, I'm the god damn human Spectre!
It's been well established my Shepard is a vindictive b!tch.
And I never hug Tali.
She's my BF, but, I can't hug her.  Tough love.

Awwww someone drew an adolescent turian... I like it ^.^

I guess I should try a Renegade Shep sometime...don't know how long it'll take before I switch back to Paragade though.

The closest I've come to full renegade is actually my current ME1 Shepard (she's leaving Garrus behind, so logic suggests she must be one hell of a b*tch!). I have no problem going all renegade on the criminals and the council (or, in ME2, TIM) but how can you be a jerk to your squad? Without feeling like... such a huge jerk! (OK, Grunt and Wrex like the renegade, and my Shepards do not like Zaeed, but them aside... it's too hard.)

But I have a slight interupt addiction. Paragon or Renegade, as soon as that icon pops up on the screen, I have to hit it! (which caused reloading after pushing the poor merc out the window, and once after punching that reporter who had it coming...) I feel bad electrocuting Cathka, but he went up against Garrus, so it had to be done. ( I will never understand why sniping that mech is a renegade action though:huh:)

Actually though, that thread got me thinking: when playing full renegade, why does anyone stick with Shepard. Jerk Shepard is a jerk! :?

I think that they just stick with Jerk!Shepard because they know that Saren/the Collectors have to be stopped, and that Shepard is one of the very few people who could possibly stand a chance against them, and that he/she needs them to do it.

If you're a massive bastard/b*tch against your squadmates in ME1, eventually they'll start finding excuses not to talk to you on the Normandy.

And even if you were a gigantic jerk against Liara in ME1, in ME2 she still says that she saved you because she COULDN'T LET YOU GO.

Being renegade Shepard is hard. There are very few squad mates who deserve being insulted or hurt. If I do play as renegade Shepard, I go for paragon or neutral responses for my squad mates (with a few exceptions), but ruthless to everyone else.

Same here, I couldn't let those 2 die. Just like Zaeed's LM: I'd never be able to leave the factory workers to roast. I'm just a big ol' softy overall: when I play naturally, I end up with a full Paragon bar and a tiny portion of the Renegade one. Oh, and I couldn't pass up the Tali hug either: the poor thing Posted Image

I do kill Cathka though. The fact that it weakens the gunship is a big part of the decision. As for Elnora: if I knew the full story beforehand, I'd kill her. But if I didn't have that knowledge, I'd let her live. So that's just what I do.

I killed Elnora because she pulled a gun on me. And to be an Eclipse mercenary you have to kill someone in cold blood.

I actually prefer the dialogue you get when you don't hug her.

Not to mention when I see a girl crying, there's the confused part of me that whispers to the person next to me "what do you do when a girl is crying?" It's, like, foreign territory.

I happen to think it's easier to go renegade in ME2, with more options being pragmatic rather than xenoracist or a prat. Shoot Sidonis! Show off your guns! Kill the Heretics! Electrocute! Defenestrate! Bully Krogans for acting like ******!

Well, that's why my Shep kills her, I kill because Shep, Garrus and Thane are just to awesome with their one shot one kill stance, there.

That was why I killed her. I just didn't believe the "I just wanted to be an awesome merc" story after I heard that.

I'd rather have shot Elnora without the quip. I would have liked to have learned she killed Pitne For's partner without all the gloating she did. I mean, the volus were trying to scam the Eclipse, no need to be all gleeful about it. Glee just makes the decision to have killed her seem completely 100% okay. I hate completely 100% okay decisions.

As far as initiation goes, you're told about the details from a less than reliable source. I'd have liked to confirm it by talking to someone who wasn't Pitne For.

Oh IRL if a friend of mine is crying, it's hard NOT to give them a hug. Then again, it depends on the friend.

But my Shepard is a big proponent of the TL doctrine. I don't have her go out of her way to be a **** or douche to her crew; hell, in ME2, with Mordin's loyalty mission, I choose a lot of the Paragon conversation choices not because my Shepard thinks he was wrong, but because she 1) wants to understand him and 2) wants to make sure he's damn well over and done with it.

The way I see it, she's not going to sugar coat anything. Not even for Garrus. But she still sees her crew as family. She's a bit disfunctional at it, at least in the eyes of most other "Shepards" out there, but she's not a xenophobe, (actually more like a xenophile, buuuut that's another story) and she's not "ruthless". She's a Renegade in that she doesn't take the time to think things all the way through. She goes with her gut, right there and then, and isn't afraid to off someone(s) for the greater good.

That kind of thing puts you in the Renegade spectrum, but both Paragon and Renegade have different shades to it. Sure, the xenophobe color is in the red, but that doesn't mean all the Reds are xenophobes.

Tangent is tangential.

Um... Garrus? <3

Eclips and Blue Suns are just asking for it and how can I say no to them? XD
I enjoy zaping Cathka and Elnora, besides the fact that she has to kill to be part of Eclips, she starts with a drama then draws her weapon. That has stupid all over it. I also enjoy headbutting Uvenk.
Some characters just have that certain thing about them, hit me, kill me or be a jerk to me. Even kicking or shooting Conrad is hilarious and making fun of Harkin when Garrus hits him. The "Ouch" option is neat.
