And yea, I know it's been discussed before but not when I was around so I'll drag it back up.

When Grunt says "you don't see turians out of their armor much" what do you think that means? Does he mean all turians, period? Does he mean specifically turians who are soldiers or fighers? Does he literally mean just armor or does he mean that turians don't like to show a lot of skin in general? (It sure seems like they don't.) Why don't they take their armor off more? Practical reasons? Cultural ones?

The colour just doesn’t match up for me. Tattoo blue, armor blue, visor red. I had same problem in ME1 when giving Garrus a different armor, all thou he looks bad as in the mercenary armor.

Ok this may be a long stretch but, I think he meant that as a figure of speech? The 'turians not taking armor off' thing.

Turians have a sense of duty so they must be going about being hired as mercenaries, C-Sec whatever, you name it. So they're always going off to work in there armor all the time.

I actually like him best in mantis armor and titan armor. He strikes me as a camo kind of guy.

Blue is the color of their blood, maybe he's just bloodthirsty? ^.^

And Raga -

I think it's because of comfort maybe?

They seem to not like the cold, and well, armor is pretty warm, at least all the armor we've seen turians in. I think we'd need more data, since honestly, I've seen about equal amounts of armored/unarmored turians all over the hub places. (Citadel, Omega, Noveria, etc)

Yeah, I usually have him in the Predator armor myself. Same as my FemShep.

Well, he was specifically talking about a stripped turian like that was a highly unusual situation.  Also recall how krogan actually use torment of enemies as a mark of respect.  "I won't disrespect their strength by doing less than the worst to them" as Grunt says of the Collectors.  Or Wrex "Our worst insult is to say something's not worth killing."  The turian being mauled is dead so why bother with all the claw-hammer, stripping him stuf if not for symbolic reasonsf?  Having the plates pulled off sounds like a torment that would physically hurt but that would also carry cultural humiliation for a turian.  The krogan certainly consider tearing off the head-plate as a really big deal.  Remember where Zaeed says you can tear off a krogan's plate with a knife if you do it just right and threatening it is the best way to get them talking?  It might be considered emasculating or something to the krogan and would probably qualify as "doing the worst" to a formidable enemy.  They must consider that turian a worthy enemy if he was part of the group that killed the warlord Shiager.  Anyway, given all that, maybe stripping a turian out of his armor is some kind of tailored insult.

I think the stripping of victims would definitely be meant as an insult, but I'm betting the reaction to the head plate/claw hammer threat is more innate than that. Like seeing somebody's eye sliced open or eardrum stabbed. The head plates and claw hammers cover their brains, (I think it's fair to assume, haw) so getting that ripped off or damaged is naturally revolting to them, and almost certainly especially painful.

Re: New DLC and "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream"
Man that game was hard! It was also my first game other than childrens games :P I think I was around 4 years old at the time... I only finished it for the first time a few moths ago, after forgetting about it for years :P I never found the game particularly creepy, but the short story was nightmare fuel! (And did you know that Harlan Ellison is the voice of AM in the game?)

And belated thanks to Chimervera (many apologies if I spelled that incorrectly) for the Urz banner.  Great! :wizard:

No problem ^_^ It seems banner making is what I do. Maybe I should open a request service :P

Speaking of banners, should I add the new, alcohol related banner slogans into the animated Clan Vakarian banner, or create a new one just for those slogans? Or both?

Also, I'm looking for particularly bad fanfiction (preferably involving Garrus and possibly mutant babies, but any bad ME fanfiction wil do). I've been getting the urge to do some sporking lately. There was a mutant babies fic posted a while ago, but is it bad-horrible, bad-mindboggling, or bad-boring? Or just a decent fic with the mistake of adding mutant babies? I'd end up starting with that fics predecessor too, so if anyone's read either/both, please tell me which category it falls into. Feel free to send me other fics you feel need to be sporked too! (If anyone's lost as to what sporking is, examples can be found here and here)

Have to post this. For science!

{cross-posted from the Motivationals thread by the way, didn't make this one myself.}

And yeah, I don't think Mordin's all about science, either. He's genuinely concerned about you and your chosen LI, but also jokes around a lot in conversations. Like in the one about the Collectors, with Gilbert and Sullivan (YEAH!), or at the end of the sex talk, with the "less alcohol and mood music required" quip.

I really liked him.
Mordin is an insainly well-written character. Almost makes me jelous. Posted Image His conversations are amazing! And he's clearly concerned with more than science: I don't know where people get that from. I think maybe when he is doing his science, he gets very focused, but that's not the same. I love this motivational!

Lol. Most of the time when someone makes a comment on this forum about us (or any of the fan threads, even the Tali one) being ‘a little too nuts’, I always think oh, how little of the internets they must have seen. We are barely worth calling the tip of the iceberg, IMO. Posted Image

It was one of the reasons why I resisted fanfic for so long. Between the crappy and the creepy, and  the takes itself too seriously, some of what is out there is terrifying.  ME fic is the first I’ve really gotten into, and the only one I’ve ever had the urge to write. But then because some people take it so seriously, I end up taking it seriously, and get into a cycle.  I’ll learn. Lol.  Some of it, when you read, is very… well, OOC is one thing, but OOC wish-fulfilment in a non-crackfic way is something else entirely, and it scares me a little. Posted ImageHa ha.
(I read Xsause’s crackfic, and it made me smile lots though. :D ) Also, I do love fic in which Shepard is aware they are a character in a video game, but I’ve seen people get up in arms about it! Chillax, dudes. Posted Image

I thought of that Salarian/Turian conversation when Garrus then brought up his idea that the Council was purposely dragging their feet in bringing Saren in. Saren was their top Spectre, and I imagine he had quite a few connections in the Council looking out for him. Considering I view Garrus to be somewhat young, I found it odd that he of all C-Sec officers was assigned such a high profile case as investigating Saren. Sure, with a little extra time, Garrus proved he could get the investigation done, but I bet there were some people in C-Sec hoping he'd fail.
I’ve wondered this loads. Then I had to wonder why Pallin chose to put Garrus, the officer least likely to let it go, on the case when it’s obvious from the get-go that Saren won’t be convicted (everything he touches is classified anyway – the Tali evidence was a one in a million fluke. He must have known Garrus wouldn’t find anything in time). I like to think he wanted Garrus to leave and take it further, in a bid to take Saren down. However, the cynic in me thnks he may just have wanted to give Garrus something to keep him busy. I don’t think Pallin would have wanted him to fail (because in turian hierarchy, the failure would have been in part Pallin’s as well), but I think a good few C-Secers may have liked the idea of Garrus failing: he seems like he rubbed people the wrong way.
Garrus is young, yes, but he has clearly been with C-Sec for a while (Shepard says as much. Also, they don’t put rookies in the wards). And I think you can move up in rank quickly if you are good at your job, but yes., he seems a tad low level to be first port of call for investigating Spectres. Makes me think maybe C-Sec cases are assigned by rota: Garrus just happened to be the officer whose desk Saren’s file crossed. But then, he does take it quite personally… so I don’t know. I think I may be over thinking this. Posted Image

I know we have the reputation as the 'wall of text' thread, but generally I think that even our slightly tangental conversatiosn (alien language, etc) feed into our Garrus conversations. And the responses on this thread tend to be very well thought out and intelligent (well, except when we thread drunkies crack open the wine. And even then we do better than some Posted Image)

@Chimevera  An animated alcoholic banner would be awesome! Posted Image Thanks for all your banner awesome. And Xsause too.

Yours are humour and parody fics, so they're allowed to be bad :P And they don't fall into my "crappy" category - they're hilarious and cracky!

Some of the fics I've read have required copious amounts of brain bleach afterwards. And made me not able to eat certain foods or look at certain colours.....

(To this day, I still cannot stand the colour lavender. Damn you badfic!)

Ahh, bad fanfic...yes, there are some truly monstrous things out there, and some that are baffling monuments to the Deity of Cheesy Fluff. It's also put me off from writing for a while, but then I figured "I would never have had any of those brain-bleach inducing ideas I've encountered, so hey, even if my stuff is bad, it can't possibly be THAT bad". At least, that's what I like to tell myself Posted Image

Re: Mordin's sense of humour. Oh, he totally enjoys taking the ******, and it's great. He's definitely one of the best characters ME has shown us so far: smart, shrewd, concerned, committed to his work, but also tongue-in-cheek. The singing interlude is legendary. And his LM was amazing: hands down, the best of the lot. I actually had to stop and think about my decision. His reaction to the dead female krogan was also very powerful: the fact that he prayed for her gave me goosebumps. All in all, it was destabilizing in a good way to see a completely serious, conflicted Mordin.

I am not fluent in english and I mostly read plays, but some fic are full of purple prose and bad writing. All I do is scroll down and scroll down and continue doing so until I get to something decent to read past the meticulous description of absolutely nothing interesting, like silky golden hair that shines at the sunset rays of a thousand burning suns or the milky delicate skin, soft to the touch as a baby derriere. Some are so painful to read I don't even know if my head is about to explode or make my eyes bleed then have my head explode.

I read this pron GarrusxFemShep fic, the first chapter was about the two exploring each others body and it was a lot to read and with a cliff hanger. I checked out after 2 months only to find out that they were both virgins...that was mind blowing. The reach and flexibility talk in the scout's quarter wasn't about sex, but they actually continued what they started and Garrus won. Shepard kept herself "pure" until she found the perfect man. As for Garrus, he was too focused on his work to worry himself about sex. That was just mind blowing.

The dialogs were cheesy, Shepard was the most powerful biotic EVAH, surpassing even an asari matriarch but she was a mere soldier and modest about it. Best at using any weapon, even a japanese sword. Able to fly the Normandy and if she wanted to. Before she was assigned to the Normandy, she could have been an admiral on the Destiny Ascension but she polity refused. And everyone was falling for her, even Saren and the turian councilor, but they both had to keep it professional. And no, her name wasn't Mary Sue, she had a name I couldn't even pronounce.

I don't think I can find the fic anymore, it was on Quizilla and I trolled her for the lulz.

There was also a fic lurking about how Saren surprise butt-sexed Nihlus as a pay-back for making him a Spectre.

Wow, that's one monster of a sue! I'm not surprised it was on Quizilla - many of the stupidest fics come from there. Maybe I'll see if I can trck it down...

Speaking of fics that can't be found, has anyone ever encountered a "Sailor Mass Effect" fic? Because I read about it somewhere, and it was apparently very horrible and illogical, but the link was broken and I've never been able to find it. If it is ever found, it goes straight to the top of the spork list!
