I truly believe his Voice is what made some people fall for him in the first place.

I mean, eugenecists...are you paying attention? Forget what other genes you're researching and pay attention to this man's voice...it's superior, we assure you. Isolate that gene and splice it into other men...their negotiations would be successful...they would be insanely competent pitchmen for Billy Mays' products...the applications are endless! :P

Garrus selling Oxyclean? I'm not sure I'd be able to resist buying then.

I love Tali's voice, too.
For some reason, she got SO much initial dialogue in ME1 (I am not complaining, but the disparity is noticeable!).  She gave what seemed 20 minutes of dialogue on the first attempt after recruiting her in ME1--quarian culture, her family, you name it--and Garrus, Kaidan, and Ashley barely said anything. lol Posted Image

Oxyclean? Is that something like Cillit Bang (or whatever these things are called these days)? Teleshopping? Oh, if he was doing that, I wouldn't mind watching that all day... lol!

I love Zaeed's voice as well. I hate British accents (sorry :P), but somehow he just sounds sexy. I lol'd when I was playing DA:O and was talking to 'Zaeed'.

But of course, Garrus voice > Zaeed voice for me.

Garrus has a cool, growly voice. Like Batman. So many ways he's like Batman.

Yeah, but Garrus is cooler, and more badass.

Actually, I wonder if Garrus wore his Helmet all the time, since people didn't know he was the Turrian that helped take down Saren. You know, which is why everyone called him Archangel? Aka, drunk Garrus in a bar by day, masked badass turian by night?

"GARRUS VAKARIAN FOR OXYCLEAN!! HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU!?!  BLOOD ALL OVER YOUR FAVORITE SNIPER RIFLE.  JUST A PINCH OF OXYCLEAN IN A GALLON OF WATER WILL WASH THAT STUBBORN GORE AWAY.  HEAVY MECHS??  NO PROBLEM!!  OXYCLEAN REMOVES RUST, OIL, GUNPOWDER, AND ANNOYING SQUISHIE BITS!!"

(note: RIP Billy Mays)

Except we all know that Garrus wouldn't need to shout. Just using his voice at a conversational level would make a lot of housewives (and househusbands, maybe) feel like they've just GOT to get one more household cleaner. And a sniper rifle. ;)

Zaeed's voice... not exactly steriotypical 'british' accent. lol

If Garrus's voice told me to buy a puppy-beating stick, I think I'd get my credit card out ther and then (worry about finding puppies later).

My downstairs neighbour sounds exactly like Tali. She called me on the intercom early one morning, and in a sleeply stupor, I thought the game had come to life! lol

Actually, I'd rather hear Garrus sort of speak in a breathy whisper. I'd buy ANYTHING from him, then. ;)

Garrus voice is definitely awesome. And it's not just the weird effect, the actual VA (spacing his name) does a great job with emotional inflection as well. I can definitely see why women find it sexy.

Also, shameless plug growing out of the previous discussion.

Garrus's voice could make us do so many things.... I'm happy BK doesn't misuse the great powers of his voice. If all Garrusfans started beating up puppies because The Archangel said so, the world would be doooomed...

Brandon Keener. :D

I listened to a lot of the dialogue form the sound files (ringtone search! honest! :innocent:) and even out of context, some of his delivery makes me well up. But all the VAs pretty much are excellent. But Garrus.

Group seems like a good idea to me. Supported.

I had 'incoming' for a bit, but it was kind of obvious. The 'you know me. I liek to savor that last shot before popping the heat sync', but that got weird looks, so I swiched to 'can it wait for a bit? I'm in the middle of some calibrations.'

I'm currently considering Elcor Hamlet. lol

I had to choose between Joker's 'what the ****', Grunt's 'I. AM. KROGAAAN' and one of Garrus's. Went for Garrus in the end... I don't think I'll have to explain why :P

Night Janey.

Late to the party regarding Lady's post, but suffice to say: I don't care.

Some people look too damn close at these things, because they have nothing better to do.

I go to the threads of my favorite characters, or their groups. Whichever I see is hoppin' and will probably get my questions or curiosity answered faster.

I don't even think I've even looked at the Ash, Miranda, Grunt, etc threads because well, I don't have questions or what have you about them. I love a lot of the characters in the ME 'verse. Just because I'm not posting in their threads doesn't mean I wouldn't support them. But in the end, it's not up to me. the ME writers have their vision, their thing and if they're bringing those characters back? Cool. If not? Well, I still stand by my view that this means ME2 was a huge waste of time (but that's another story.)

Suffice to say: Good for you. Let's get back to Garrus now.

Speaking of which, anyone else find it weird that he says something in ME1 about the Flux music actually being pretty awful, and yet... he plays it for you during the romance scene? Huh? /blink

Hey, opinions can change! :D I'm just happy he chose the Flux music over a ballad by Celine Dion or something.

(late to the party as always, but I wanted to reply to this)

I'm only active in the Garrus thread, so I can't speak for other threads, but I feel nothing of this supposed 'rivalry'. I post in this thread because Garrus is the only character I like to have in-depth discussions about, not because I don't like the other characters. Everyone is welcome to come in and propose a topic, we will discuss it. You don't have to 'belong here' or be a 'regular' to be taken seriously. I can't be sure because I never post/lurk in other character threads, but I think everyone is welcome to drop by and discuss the character in the other threads, as long as you do it in a normal and polite way. There's not going to be a flamewar unless you jump in with a hate post.

That said, I still agree that there should be a subforum for all these support threads. There are a lot of interesting topics that drop down to the second page or even lower, because of all the support threads.

I understand why people enjoy the support threads as they exist right now. Each support thread has its own unique atmosphere. They have their regulars, the posters you come to know a bit more about. It almost becomes a support thread for regular posters in that sense -- Have a bad day? Ask those you've come to know on this thread to share some tapioca. You know they love you. That kind of stuff.

And some people really only want to talk about Garrus and the Turians. For them, that's the draw in the game.

And there is an entirely different atmosphere when you wander outside of the support threads.

There is a culture that has developed around these support threads and declaring their end or movement to another forum is nothing short of revolution. Revolutions are not easy and not always welcome.

That said, I have always been a huge proponent of not only moving the character threads to their own forums, but allowing for the creation of subforums for major characters. I will now spend a ridiculous amount of words detailing my viewpoint.

1. Imagine a world of no subforums and no moderation. This, my fellow posters, was the internet world into which I was born. In this world, posters had to make their own laws, demonstrate self-restraint, and develop a system of topic formation. If one topic spawned a completely new discussion unrelated to the original topic, people... started new topics. If a discussion about Garrus turned into a discussion of Turian military warfare, someone started a new topic about Turian military warfare. The discussion was opened not just to the people who were reading the Garrus topic, but a whole new set of readers who probably couldn't give a damn about Garrus, but do want to talk about Turian military warfare. There was this whole system thing about tagging posts and whatnot, I kind of forget. And the system kind of crashed under the weight of increased traffic, but I still believe in the creation of new topics for different discussions.
2. You have just come up with a profound thought about Tali's engineering education. You step into the support thread, but there are dozens of pictures, a humor meme, an ongoing chat about each other's day, and already two in depth discussions about the cybernetic qualities of the Quarians and Tali's crush on Shepard from the first game. Sure, you could throw your idea out there, but you will be fighting the tide. You must ignore what doesn't interest you and see if you can spark interest in your own topic. This requires more work than I really think it should.
3. Support thread rivalry does exist. You think you don't participate in it, but don't you just get the impression that your thread is a little bit more on-topic and friendly than that other support thread? Haven't you seen some posters from that other support thread around acting a little bit too zealous than what you see in your own support thread?
4. There is not a single support thread that is not guilty of a sense of groupthink that has developed over time about the perception of the character and some element of the character's story. Fight the groupthink and open yourself up the occasional dissenter.
5. Writing posts that neither support nor criticize a character easily fall by the wayside because you need to write that post in the support thread just to find a set of people who might be interested in the post.
6. When a support thread veers off track to discuss a different character, why exclude the supporters of that character simply because the discussion developed in your support thread? It's insular.
7. Threads about characters truly are different than threads about campaign quests and themes of the ME universe. Some people say they don't like venturing outside of character threads because they don't like the people who post outside of them. Just as people who don't post in character threads do so because they don't like the people who post in them. This in and of itself lends itself to the idea that there is something fundamentally different about talking about characters and talking about other storylines.

Okay, now, I do participate in a lot of different character threads. I go where the discussion is, and I don't much care if the character is a favorite of mine or not. I have my limits to how many character threads I'm willing to visit because some veer too far off on their own track for me to jump onto the ride. And I am guilty of much of what I said I wish I didn't happen with support threads. And there's a bit of contradiction from point to point. I could lead by example and go with the philosophy of "I'm going to dance here and you can think you're dancing with me if you want." That way I am assured only the cool VIP elite of the forums are coming with me. That is a joke. But anyway, I'm not going to do that because the culture of this forum developed before I got here and I am not Che Guevera.

So yes, such is the opinion of a poster who does not want to be a support thread supporter nor limited to the confines of support threads.

I am, perhaps, too old fashioned for this place. And I need to get out more.

Celine Dion... oh YIKES. Remember the face that Shep makes when he/she hears Mordin sing? Yeah, it would be THAT kind of moment. Either that, or Shep would be knocking Garrus out of the way to hit that console.

Garrus: Crap, did I do something wrong? That song was a big hit for you humans.
Shepard: Yeah, uh, note the past tense. And my great- great- great- grandmother said that song sounded just as bad when it was NEW. Course, she almost ruptured her eardrums listening to stuff like Social Distortion and... wow, I sure know how to ruin a romantic moment.
*awkward silence*
Shepard: Let's crack open that wine while I go hit the load screen really fast! *hums "I Was Wrong" while maniacally mashing the ESC button*

And I'd be fine with character support threads being moved to another area (another subforum or what have you).  I've also been curious as to why character stuff is in with quests and storylines.  /shrug

Pac, really, if they wanted to move the support threads, why not move them into the Character forums? If I were a brand new person to the place, I'd probably search there first to get some questions answered.

I have come across the situation of thinking of something to ask, then not being able to insert it into conversation. /shrug Oh well. Usually means no one's interested in that topic, so make something up, and move on.

It's human nature for like minded people to group together and start identifying with each other, especially over time. So I just go with the flow of said nature, ignore what I don't like, and foster what I do.

As for if what you think of a character ends up not being status quo or accepted by the rest of the fandom? HA! There's a lot of thoughts I've had of some of the characters that I KNOW don't jive well with the fandom base (some of my views on Thane come to mind) but that doesn't bother me, nor make me shy away from thinking them, acting upon them or pointing them out.

Sure, everyone's got their opinion, and I'm entitled to mine (and even thinking you're wrong and I'm not, but hey! That's human nature! ) The tone of that sentence isn't going to come out great because it's the internet but realize, I'm not trying to be antagonistic.

I'm just not a very **** footed person.

...

Where did Celine Dion come from? Did I miss something on that one? Oo

(PS: THE ENDING OF AVATAR (AIRBENDER). /RAGE)
