Hey Garrusmancers. I hail from the Tali thread. I recently finished some artwork that involves Garrus. When I upload it, it will be acompanied by a story told from Garrus' perspective. The following is just a snippet, but feedback is welcome, and I thought you guys might enjoy a sneak peek. Mind you, this story involves Male Shepard, but it is Garrus' story. This is a flashback sequence. Enjoy.

---
Pain.

Garrus Vakarian’s entire world was pure, agonizing pain. His face burned with the intensity of wildfire, fresh shrapnel still smoking against his flesh continuing to burn into him. He wanted to scream, wanted someone, anyone, to hear him, to help him. He reached for his rifle, as if guided by instinct. It was the only comfort he had left, a damaged, broken old piece of ceramic. Some part of him knew it was always going to end this way, dying alone, on a station where nobody would care, where nobody would mourn him. He had welcomed it. He always knew it was suicidal to come here, to be a vigilante where the odds were quite literally a million to one. He hadn’t had much left to live for after the Normandy was lost, after Shepard had left his world.

Shepard.

Garrus felt hands over his armor, rolling him onto his back. He was greeted with the face of a dead SpecTRe. The title never seemed so appropriate. That’s exactly what Shepard had been; a ghost, an apparition of light amongst the sea of darkness that the dying turian had drowned himself in. Garrus’ eyes met Shepard’s. They stared at each other for a moment, two dead men whose fire had yet to fully pass from their eyes.

“Garrus!” Shepard’s voice is laced with concern, and possibly fear. It was a tone Garrus had only heard Shepard use once before, on Virmire. That didn’t bode well.

Garrus tries to speak, to say something, goodbye, or maybe that he’s sorry for all of this, for trying to be the hero that Shepard was, and letting it end in such a disaster. The words don’t come out, only a strangled gurgling sound as he chokes on his own blood, now seeping from down his face to the back of his throat.

“We‘re getting you out of here Garrus, just hold on!” Shepard’s eyes never break themselves away from Garrus’, almost as if willing him not to go, as if this small connection between the closest of friends will be enough. Shepard’s hand finds his, gripping it, giving him an outlet for the pain, a way to hold onto the world around him. “Radio Joker, make sure they‘re ready for us!” Shepard’s voice drips with urgency, sending a shiver down Garrus’ spine. If Shepard is scared, the situation has clearly gone to hell. That didn’t bode well for him at all. One of Shepard’s companions responds, sending a mayday signal to someone. Garrus doesn’t hear what they’re saying, focusing all of his energy, all of his being on Shepard’s face.

“Come on Garrus, just hang in there.” Shepard’s voice has gone soft, trying to sooth Garrus’ racing heart, hoping to slow the loss of blood. One of his companions gently applies medi-gel to his face, sending waves of fresh pain down his neck. He tries to move, tries to scream, and again, the only sound that emanates from his mutilated throat is the sick gurgling of his own blood. Shepard forces Garrus back onto his back, preparing him for another round of medi-gel.

“I‘m sorry Garrus. Help is on the way. Just stay with me.” Garrus can feel himself slipping. The turian vigilante’s will to live has been tested in ways that would break even the hardest of his kind over the past two years, but the logical, tactical, analyzing part of his mind already knows the truth. He’s lost too much blood. He’s leaving here in a body bag. Almost as though sensing his will weakening, Shepard’s hand grips Garrus’ harder.

“I still need you, Garrus,” Shepard says, his voice quiet, calm, almost weakly. After a long silence, Shepard feels Garrus’ hand grip his own, gently at first, then with a grasp that would shatter a lesser man’s bones. Being rendered mute no longer matters, the half dead alien’s meaning is clear.

I’ll be here if you need me.

How do yo think Garrus looks by turian standards? I can actually believe that he is a stud.

As always, an interesting question.  Of course, my knee-jerk response is to say he's drop-dead gorgeous for a turian and all the (theoretical) turian ladies swoon when he walks over. :P
But to be fair, we really have no way of knowing.  Sure I can compare him to other turians, but I am not sure what constitutes attractiveness among male members of that species.  We've mentioned maybe longer fringe was attractive, or maybe just connotates age, and I remember someone else saying that a narrow waist was probably desirable in both males and females, but really, we just don't know.  Fun to think about, though.  And I will support the stud hypothesis 110%. :wizard::kissing:

Then of course there is that comment he makes to ManShep about how he was always getting hit on.  But I honestly think that's just a funny, self-deprecating line Garrus uses as humor to get past the horrible stuff that's just happened.  But then again...bah, must stop now!

Because I had a converation with a friend earlier today about whether or not Garrus would notice that Shepard is attractive or not. So I thought of the inverse, how do you think the alien characters would compare to others of their own race? Some are more obvious than others, Wrex is grizzled, Thane is suave, as asari; Liara and Samara look attractive.

Garrus I would imagine he does look handsome enough, he did have a private sparring match.

And SU37, it's great to see you show your support!  Mr. is right, we're pretty cool by and large.  And if the conversation drops too much into the gutter, well that was probably my fault (>90% of the time) so just PM me and I'll stop.

No worries; my mind goes bad places sometimes too.

That was excellent!  You know it's well-written when we already know the story and you still managed to keep me on the edge of my chair for a bit.  Thanks for sharing!

@Andaius20, I thought the same when I was looking at them until I noticed the short fringe. Then I had a closer look and some of them kind of stand out in some way, especially Saren. But I like to think of him to be different due to being a biotic. Maybe that changes them in some way. But he had to stand out anyway since he was an antagonistic, else you'd be seeing Saren everywhere.

Do you guys think Garrus's gnarly scar will make him more or less attractive to the opposite sex? Maybe they might see it as like the krogan value battle scars...or then again, people might think, "he got a scar, he must be weak". (of course that probably won't happen as I'm sure he's rather famous)

"Weak?" Scars mean that this person is a survivor.

Thats not true at all. I mean it would be the same if another species said that to humans.

Skine tone and color varies. Along with facial tattoos. And so does the fringe length. And the resonanance in each turians voice varies from person to person.

Obviously though they all look pretty similar compared to humans who have so many other things that may vary.

Also, it's a great conversation starter.

Garrus: Hey, you wanna know how I got this scar?

Random Turian/Asari/Human Girl: Sure.

Garrus: I took a rocket to the face.

Yes, obviously I agree with you, but I was trying to play Devil's Advocate.  "He let his guard down or he wouldn't have been hit", that kind of thing.

That was a joke.

But I see your point. We don't really get much of a view into turians.

And just to clarify, I don't for ONE SECOND think ANYTHING about Garrus is weak...I was just speculating as someone who didn't know him at all.

If i saw a person, regardless of gender, walk down the street and i see a scar streaked across his/her face then i would assume that person is a fighter and a survivor.

Said person might think he is weak after seeing those scars.

Then their eyes would travel down to the heavily armored tank that Garrus is wearing. Yes. According to Alliance Military classification, Garrus does in fact wear a tank, not actual body armor. After seeing that, they'd notice the high calibur rifle in his hands. It would then dawn on that person that the guy with half his face blown off did not get that scar because he was a poor combatant, it was because someone gave everything they had to give him that scar, and clearly, the turian had come out on top.

That person's head would then explode in shear amazement, and the Universe's karmic balance would be restored.

Indeed.

If it was half as large and as dramatically well-placed, I'd immediately assume that person was a badass.
