In ME2 Garrus seemed to keep to himself and from the first conversation you have with him when you get into details he just thanks you for stopping by and goes calibrating. I was expecting him to be more open with Shepard since they know each other for long, but no.
Hes probably to scared to be forward with himself, hes a pretty insecure person even in the romance. But oh no...that better damn well change or you would know what my angry garrus would do with the bioware devs. And involves something to do with a pole.

I actually liked that about him. While most everyone just throws in your face their problems, it felt like he didn't want to bother you since you already had enough on your head.
And yeah, that pole. Damn turian pride.

Garrus always struck me as a very private person. Not because he is shy or inhibited or anything but because he is no-nonsense. Think of his bit about not wanting to muck up the mission with a stupid love triangle or how even when rejected in the romance scene all he has to say is "Best let be" and "I'll be here if you need me." He knows the mission and he doesn't want to do anything that will jeopardize it. I think he thinks projecting and dumping his emotions on others will just derail the mission. Enter irony: He tries to sort out his issues himself, fails at it, and THAT can actually end up derailing the mission because he becomes distracted.
Also, I am preparing my long support thread rant, but in the meantime, I wanted to comment on something that someone pointed out a while back that is very true. Character support threads are guilty of groupthink. That's to be expected, but it can lead us to never consider the bad aspects of a character. We focus on what we like and yet no character is perfect. All characters have flaws. So in the interest of fairness and balance, I think this is something that would make a great discussion.
What things do you guys dislike about Garrus? When does he frustrate you? When do you want to slap him or shake him? Has he ever made you angry or disappointed you? What are his biggest flaws?
Come on, people, we can handle it. Everybody here loves Garrus so we all know that we pick him apart because we are interested by him. You can't love people in slices. You got to consider the bad with the good.
Also, please note I'm not really talking about presentation problems here as I think we have mostly addressed that kind of stuff. (The infamous never-ending calibrations, getting nothing but a headbump, etc.) I'm talking about character flaws, not writing or development flaws. In other words, negative traits that Garrus was supposed to have to make his character more interesting and dynamic.

Just wondering, do you guys happen to know what that eagle-looking thing on Garrus' armor is?
C-Sec emblem?

Unfortunately not. I lack any picture not involving Tali.
I could have sworn I saw an emblem on Garrus' right arm once.
Edit: Or I could just be going crazy.

What suit of armor was it? ME1? If ME2 was it post or pre-loyalty armor? Or the one from the appearance pack?

I think it was the ME2 loyalty armor.
I noticed it when he was in the briefing room right before the suicide mission.

Also, I could post a long rant on the discussion of character support pages if anyone wanted but that topic was discussed like 30 pages ago so I will just let a sleeping dog lie if that's best.
I just took a break from this thread to play Dragon Age. I just got my (blood-covered) dog. ADORABLE x10
And this makes me want to resurrect the "pets on Palaven" stuff...gah why can't we get a news report throwing us a line on this one

He was ready to die, suicide by merc. Trying to take down as many ****s as he can before someone lucky caught him. And hes afraid to admit that to shepard. That my take on it anyway.

He probably did have that mindset at the end: I'll just remove as many as they can before they finally bring me down. Poor Garrus D:

This thing on his right arm. I always wondered about that, too.

Here's his loyalty armor (can't find a better shot yet. This one's kinda dark.)

He's obsessive and can be downright stubborn. His quest for justice goes to such extremes that he's willing to walk out of his C-Sec job, doesn't finish Spectre training, doesn't question that maybe red tape exists for good reasons, like to make sure innocent people don't get caught in the crossfire (witness firing on Dr Saleon) or that the point of a trial is to prove if someone is innocent or guilty (as opposed to assuming guilt to begin with and sniping them in the head).
My personal jury is out as to whether he was so excited at the idea of bringing some law and order to Omega that he never thought about what, exactly, it would mean long-term to get all the major merc groups simultaneously pissed off at him, or whether he had a subconscious death wish, either due to Losing Shepard, losing his team, or both.
My personal theory is that he learned the behaviour from struggling to impress/be good enough for his father. Nothing he does can ever be good enough, and rather than give up, he goes to extremes.
I think he sometimes has a tendency to jump on an opportunity that's right in front of him without stopping to think about the long term consequences. He does this on Omega, he does this with Sidonis, and he starts to do this with the romance too...says "yes" and then later "holy crap are we crazy...?"
He needs Shep to rein in his more extreme tendencies and provide a stabilizing influence.

SORRY.
As for what it is? I think we've speculated maybe it's his turian rank from when he was int he military? I mean, regardless of what path you steer him towards in ME1... none of the C-Sec guys had a similar symbol. Or maybe it's his Archangel symbol. That'd be pretty awesome...
Oh! And who ever mentioned Nihlus armor (Phantom)

HANDLE.
Lemme get back to you guys on the negative things of Garrus. I have a few, but I need to brain first on them (incoming Wall o' text.)

If that's true, that means Archangel has a logo.
Which means Garrus is officially a superhero.
Awesome.
