I never get to be here, darn work.

Just finished PT 4 and had an ending with Garrus that I've never had; the previous times, I had to repeat the earlier 'but I want to try it with you' conversation with him before being able to invite him to my cabin post-finale. This time, with the only change that would contribute to a dialogue change being the Kasumi dlc IMO, this is what happened: I could not summon him, prepared myself for the repeat convo, and instead, he said: "I've got some diagnostics to finish. But don't worry. I haven't forgotten what, ah, we talked about." Exact quote, note the 'ah'. <3 I love this and the surprise was wonderful. Kasumi also has another great comment about Garrus and Shepard after the final mission. (My theory is this is part of the Kasumi dlc and that BioWare paid attention, which makes me happy.)

Small confession:

My students know that I like Mass Effect. Recently, one of them played the 'put more stuff in the stuff etc' drinking scene at a game demo somewhere and taught the scene to everyone in class; I now hear daily variants of the scene. In the uncanny coincidence department, for an open house essay, a student wrote that he wants to be a vigilante when he grows up and have a sniper rifle and help people in need. I redirected him to write about how he would help people aside from the use of a sniper rifle, naturally.

Jr. high boys in a special ed class; the video game passion is a lifesaver! At first, they did not trust me, until they found out that "the lady teacher" liked gaming.... Now they tell me tips and cheats and info all the time. The one kid, who taught that scene to the class? He is now learning the names of all the alcohol, like krogan ryncol, etc. /sigh... (I love getting to talk ME at work with the boys, though.)

Actually, that's the same line I got from Garrus, but I don't have any DLC. It might just be random. I think most people get the 'but I want to try it with you' line (at least, that's what I've read here). The other line makes more sense, but it's still a repeat of one of his earlier lines.

I still like to think of it this way - Garrus is still working on Normandy repairs after the suicide mission, and he and Shepard talked about their relationship even though we didn't see it. xD

I prefer that interpretation too; I write about that way in my story-in-progress about the post-mission GxS.

You said that this is a repeat of an earlier line? I do not recall him saying he had diagnostics (calibrations!) to run. I thought this was an update because of not hearing it before and that having diagnostics to run fits considering the harrowing base assault. Perhaps it is me wanting to believe that the dialogue now fits what I think it should be and that they made an adjustment. :wizard: When does he say that?

I'm having trouble finding the scene on youtube. xD I'll post it if I ever find it.

I think it was the dialogue that comes up when Garrus and Shepard are finished with their romance conversations.

Haha, I'll join in the translation thing:

English: Garrus, what are you doing here?

Japanese: Garrus、何をしているの?

Edited Japanese: ギャレス (It's his official japanese name)、何をしているの?

English: Garrus, are you doing?

Japanese: ガレス、あなたは何ですか?

English: Garrus, what are you?

Japanese: ガレス、何ですか?

English: Garrus, What?

It's like a little conversation XD

He says it if you go back to have a conversation straight after you propose 'reach and flexibility' tiebreaker. :P

Well, I guess that's why Garrus hasn't "forgotten what we talked about"... they talked about it a few seconds ago. xD

Also, the "Garrus, what are you?" translation is pretty funny.

Hmm, well, I'm very disappointed.  (straight back, as in, don't do anything else between?) I'm glad I got to hear him say it though, as it fits much better than the usual. I pray that BioWare develops this more in the final chapter.

What did you think of what Kasumi says when you talk to her after the finale? Her comments about Garrus do help make up for -some- of the lack. <3

CURIOUS: How many different Shepards have y'all played as? I mean, distinctly different, not simply same name/appearance with different choices but separate characters? I feel like I'm competing with myself for Garrus' attention when picturing romancing him with a different Shepard.

I'm glad I got that line too. :) It does sound more realistic, like it fits really well even though it was from an earlier scene.

Well, I only played two Shepards so far, but I bought ME1 a couple months before ME2 came out. I have a lot of Shepards planned out though. My MainShep is the only one who will romance Garrus though - I like to imagine all of my Shepards on the Normandy together, and it would seem like Garrus was cheating if I hooked him up with another Shepard too. Only the characters I don't care about as much don't count. xD

I've got a few Shepards (I think I got five). I've only bought Mass Effect since it was on sale at ebgames. Originally, my main Femshep romanced kaidan (and turned him renegade) but I cheated on him with Thane, and my next one is currently Kaidan dead, Liara rejected and I will pursue Garrus. :P

Oh my god the sound files. Went from blushing like a schoolgirl, too shocked to move, to playing back repeatedly in about 30 seconds. Bless you, Garrus thread.

I kind of wish we had a better directory for this sort of content. It's a lot to depend on the OP to update the original post with every new bit of interesting nonsense we find or create.

Oh god, LOL! Those translations deserve an Oscar or something.

@ Kim Shepard: Glad the Liara turndown worked!

@ kglaser: That sculpture is pretty gosh-darn amazing. However, there's something off about that comic. The way Garrus says "it's not like a turian like me has a chance with you" sounds almost as if he considers that being turian makes him inferior to or unworthy of a human in some way. And that strikes me as really OOC for him.

@ Collider: I was very much wowed by Mordin's LM as a whole. And that line of his inexplicably makes me go misty-eyed...Must be the tone of his voice, or the fact that it's so uncharacteristic of him. Or both. It really brings home the weight of his decisions.

@ Aricle: I've heard that line mentioned before, but Garrus just gave me the "part of me still thinks we're crazy" line after the "I almost feel sorry for the Reapers" one, and I also had Kasumi installed. I wonder what determines which line he uses...

Oh, and I have 3 separate Sheps: 2 females (1 faithful to Kaidan, 1 romancing Garrus) and 1 male (romancing Tali). Although, I'll probably be reusing one of the females to romance Thane.

@ Rebe70: That "helmet in the bar" strip is great!

@ Shazammer: You raise a good point. I'm actually not sure whether turians can cry, with the way their eyes are placed. They're surrounded by the face-plate: it's not a very convenient configuration for tears to be "evacuated".

I have no discernible artistic talent and I was able to use it to draw something that was actually recognizable as a turian!  You have done the impossible.  Seriously, thanks for that.  Also, the other comic posted here was great.

It's scary how many Shepards I have at this point. I think... putting aside random playthroughs to see classes... I have FOUR Shepards. 3 from my Main!Shep from ME1 and one from my Secondary!Shep ME1. 2 romancing Garrus, 2 romancing Thane... 2 dumping Kaidan to do so, 2 single before ME2. As I told my friend last night when he asked 'WHY?!' I think it's a desire to see what kind of fights happen. Granted, I agree with the idea that Kaidan is too controlled and proper to actually get into a fight. (Not that I wouldn't love to see Kaidan and Garrus go at it. Kaidan: Dude, bros before hoes, Garrus! WTF?" Garrus: "What did you call Shepard?!" *applies his sniper rifle to Kaidan's face* But I'm snarky like that...) I really should have a third Shepard who stays loyal to Kaidan, but I personally can not forgive him after Horizon, so it would be really hard to make my character do so... esp with Garrus and Thane lurking on the crew deck just WAITING. Stupid sexy aliens.

I don't want to pack. I want to play ME2. (For the umpteenth time...) Blargh!
