I don't know if this topic has been discussed here. I was talking with a friend of mine and we were talking about Mass Effect 2 (and Garrus  ). It eventually steered it over to why homosexual relationships were not brought in the entire series (we turned away from discussing the asari case, since it's rather a gray area) and we were wondering about if they did bring in homosexuality as a choice in romance, then would Garrus be bisexual? So asking, would you've liked Garrus to have been an option for ManShep and knowing this, would you play out the romance knowing that Garrus goes both ways? Would the ManShep/Garrus romance play out the same (and as successfully) with FemShep/Garrus? Would the ManShep/Garrus romance change your opinion of Garrus?
Personally, I don't think Garrus/ManShep romance would work if by ME2 standards. From playing a ManShep just recently, I found Garrus to be an old friend and close family in ME2. Even if there were hints that he would swing both ways in his conversation, I think that the simplicity of Garrus' romance wouldn't work for ManShep/Garrus in comparison to the FemShep/Garrus. When I saw first saw the modded ManShep/Garrus cuddling post-suicide, I broke my ribs in laughter, and I couldn't take the romance seriously if it was EXACTLY the same as FemShep's (maybe it was that modded ManShep had FemShep moves and when Sheploo has feminine moves, it cracks me up) I have played gay relationships from Bioware's games, from Jade Empire with Sky. It was harder to pursue the relationship as a male than it is with a female, as personality and cultural differences played a part. But it was an interesting outlook and experience (would've been perfect example, just that I felt the romance was rushed). Just making a ManShep/Garrus would make a totally different romance experience, and knowing time restrictions and costs plus the media outcry if things got out, I don't think BW would've done that. If ME2 was ten times better... then it could work. Copy-and-pasting romance FemShep romance wouldn't work. It worked okay-ish when they started off with Kaidan, and Thane's budding romance felt that it could stem both ways. But Garrus, nah.
But would it make me think less of Garrus if he liked ManShep as well as FemShep? No, but it would be an interesting twist to his character if done correctly.

My friend suggested that ManShep/Garrus could go into a relationship to further their relationship (like the Spartans for example, to bring soldiers together to fight in wars), and adding that Garrus would make a good uke, which killed half of the brain cells in my brain.
Anyway, I need to get some sleep. It's 1:30AM here. Good night, and I'm hoping rest can restore the half brain cells that I'd just lost.

The thing is, just like with a real person, you can't really force someone to be bi when they're not. The way his character is written right now, Garrus isn't bi. He's straight. At least, that's how I perceive him. And he has been that way for 2 games now. I don't imagine him written any other way. Same for Thane: he's straight, in my eyes.
Kaidan, on the other hand, I could definitely see being bi. I think he would also work as a strictly gay option. And I wouldn't have a problem with it. Except, of course, the M/M romance would have to be written somewhat differently from the F/M one. Like the Zevran relationships in DA:O. From what I've read, they play out differently depending on whether it's an M/M or an F/M relationship. Not sure about Leliana, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a similar situation.
In a more general sense, while I agree that same-sex romances could totally have been introduced in ME, the real problem is that most of the LIs are written as straight, character-wise. Tali and Kaidan are probably the only ones I could imagine swinging both ways. Not taking Liara and Samara into account, of course, since, as you said, asari are a special case (although both of them entail FemShep being bi or lesbian).

So I couldn't tell you one way or another.
I guess the only thing I could do was equate what I felt could be between my Shepard and Tali, and that was really, BFFs, even though they left some of the "flirty" dialogue for Tali for us F!Sheps.
Garrus/M!Shep, to me, radiates the bro factor. But, there could be something about gay relationships and how they start that I'm missing. I have a few gay friends IRL. Surprise surprise, not every gay guy fits into the sterotype that is out there. Some of them, gay-dar does not go off, he's a guy. (Some are overboard, but this is what you get when you live in Rhode Island XD). Either way, it's hard to gauge.
I know there's a lot of people out there who want the same sex romances, especially since they gave us a taste of it in Dragon Age. And I do think that the last minute excuse they gave was a bit weak, but still plausible.
It's a tough (and hot) topic, for sure. Probably a bit more flammable than the Capitol Punishment convo earlier.
This is my big long winded way of saying... eh, I don't see them making Garrus swing the other way for ME3. I think they might have to come up with a whole new squaddie, unless they had Thane or Jacob (the under-loved) switch sides. But again, character make up for those two also hinders homosexual tendencies.
Gah... it's a tough question for me since I just woke up and this is probably turning out to be a bunch of rambling.
As for would it turn me off of Garrus? No. In my Shep's universe, Garrus is her guy. His personality in another Shep's 'verse isn't going to change my opinion on him. Although, to make a Dragon Age comparison, I think Zev's overtly bisexual vibe and Leliana's subtly one kind of turned me off to them. Leliana not so much, but Zev, definitely. Although, that could have been more his personality (and the fact I was already hopelessly smitten for Al.)

Yeah, that's also something I don't understand. But I also think there's no reason why the choice shouldn't be there, for those who would like it. It's just that, the way the story's been written so far, all of the LIs are established as straight, even the ones that have the potential to be bi. So the only way a same-sex romance is going to happen is if they introduce new LIs in ME3. And that's...not likely, considering how many characters they already have to deal with.
Concerning DA, however, I will most probably be romancing Zevran (with a female character) when I finally get started on the game. Not because he's bi, but because his personality/backstory sounds more interesting to me. Of course, I can't be 100% certain without actually having seen/heard the characters in context, but from what I know thus far, Alistair doesn't stand much chance of being appealing to me.

I agree with this completely.
This discussion always makes my stomach go into a fist, though. It's one of the few topics we discuss where things can get contentious.

And I do think that, while it'd be opening up one hellava can of worms, if they happen to create some characters for the roles that will be needed (maybe?) that the first character got off'd in the SM, then maybe they could be the swing one/both ways type.
But that's wild speculation, and would probably start a whole rant of "You want me to kill X to get the romance I wanted in game one/two?! /flaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamez)
Anyone else get the feeling though, that to get Liara back or on the team in ME3, Feron is going to be involved? And the saving of him? XD

And this:

Mordin in drag... scary, scary sight. My brain is still reeling.
I'm off to help a friend move (oddly, he's moving back INTO Tornado Alley from Alaska. Even though his garage was trashed in the tornado two weeks ago. I don't get it either)... in 88 degree weather. At least it's cloudy right now.

Yea, Al and Zev are two very different personality types. Don't get me wrong, there's some problems I see with Al, but he's more my type than Zev. Enjoy your PT ^.^
Thankees ^^ I might give Al a spin with a Human Noble at some point, just for the heck of it...and yes, I know what can happen if you pick any other race, lol. That's probably one of the main issues I have with him.

Y'know, the idea makes sense, but yeah, the flame warz would probably get pretty intense if that happens.
Well, if they release that Shadow Broker DLC everyone's been going on about, it might happen before ME3.Anyone else get the feeling though, that to get Liara back or on the team in ME3, Feron is going to be involved? And the saving of him? XD
Have a fun BBQ!

QFT. I hate sci-fi and aliens, but Mass Effect + Garrus =
DAT VOICE. Happy to provide you with sound effects...
Do I see bisexual potential in Garrus? Yes. Would it change my opinion on him? No. Do I want him to swing both ways in ME3? Noooooo. I'd rather have BW focus on the relationships the way they are now, instead of changing them in the last part of the trilogy. They might make new LI's for the same sex crowd, but there are already so many LI's. Expanding current LI's as they are > creating new LI's, imo. But that's easy for me to say, because I already found my dream guy
As for Alistair/Zevran, Alistair all the way for me. I guess I like my men awkward and funny. Lelianna is cute too, I might try her in another PT. (wait... that sounded bad)
