Hey - saw the 'Alistair' related discussion and that is curr ntly directly realted to my interests.

I totally see why Garrus/Alistair is made as a comparison. NO, they are not the same character, not do they share the same hisroty with the central character, but they do both share a sense of duty and use humour as a shield. I get that. (avoiding BW forums againsts spoilarz atm.)
Garrus as 'bi' option came up AGAIN in my absesence. I always miss this discussion point. Firstly, can I just say how glad I am that this time it didn't end in the '

' face (what are we? 12?)
I have always had an issue with ME 's treatment of bisexual/gay characters in the universe (ie: they say you can't have that because Shepard isn't gay, yet FemShep is clearly pretty damn bi, and male/femshep are the same character.)
I think that BW saying Shep isn't gay was a cop-out. I would have had soooo much more respect if they had said that it was more to do with the other character's sexual preference (ie, not zombies from the snow) that that of Shepard him/herself.
However: I do have an issue with discussing sexuality with regards to the male alien LIs. As far as I can see, sex is a biological thing: I have a vagina, therefore I am female. Gender is more subjective: how I act, how I feel, how others view me, Now, in an alien society, biology will never be the same. Period. And culture surrounding gender steriotyps will always never be the same, never a 'correct' human model, forever changinig in definiation. Think about it, won't an alien sociery (even one which splits gender in 2) ALWAYS be splitting along lines which cannot be rectified in our current cultural boxes for gender and sexuality?
Edit: Spelling fail. Also, zombies from the snow was a bad metephor.
