Would've used Horus, since it suits Garrus' ideal in a way, but this was a pretty good pic. Tempted to put Sheploo's face in place of man, but didn't. :P

That's a pointy penis.

Wait, did I just say that out loud? :o

what the christ why is Garrus Egyptian

I LEAVE FOR TWO DAYS WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU PEOPLE

Anyway, has anyone else been keeping an eye on the Taetrus stuff?

“Gruesome news out of Taetrus tonight: Four turian men have been arrested for stealing healthy organs from the dead at the overcrowded Haemona Medical Center. The men posed as nurses and used fake identity cards to gain entry to the hospital's morgue. Two ran interference while the other two, skilled in surgery, removed kidneys, lungs, and gizzards from the freshest corpses of those who died just days after the Vallum Blast. The turians were discovered by a diener, who suspected something was amiss when the men attempted to prevent him from seeing the bodies. "I cannot believe I'm the same species as these parasites", said the diener, Daherax Antivus. "Whatever happened to shame?"”

TURIANS CONFIRMED FOR GIZZARDS

My fault. :P I mentioned that turians could be what made the Pyramids thousands of years ago and that stemmed godhood for garrus. Lack of sleep for the last few days + doing essay on legitimacy of kings = garrus godhood = garrus worshippers. XD

Also, more Taetrus:

Reports from Taetrus indicate that the human crew of the MSV Atlanta have been arrested for spying. The crew, including five reporters from the Earth cable news channel Mirror, was accused of attempting to photograph dead turians — a misdemeanor in times of peace, and a graver offense during wartime. Said Hierarchy Navy spokesman Commander Iustinix Sylvatus: “The charge does not translate well, but their intent was clear. They were using their ship’s scanners to monitor the battlefield and report on it. We cannot allow this, as it gives away vital intelligence and compromises the memory of the dead.”

The part I find interesting is the photographing of dead turians--it's a misdemeanor? I wonder what that implies about them? Is it a purely cultural thing, or is it exploited for political reasons? Must be advantageous when your war reporters can't take pictures of a war zone. Their reporting standards are probably really dodgy, if there are rules regarding what you can and can't take pictures of.

@Alexine: Lovely image, thank you. Now my mind is reviewing all of my Art History stuff, have to look later.

Just want to say, it cheers me up to be here. I found out today that I did not get a job I really wanted (my current work place is very bad) and today has been rough.
On another note: Happy 30th Birthday, Pac-Man!:wizard:

I miss the old pac-man games. Used to have one that runs on Microsoft excel and I would always bring it on USB to play during high school. Ahh, the good old days.

Don't worry, Aricle! There would be other jobs to find, even when it seems very grim to.

As for Taetrus report, I don't think it's a cultural thing. Before photojournalism came, photography was used to capture the last essence of the dead (if you google late 19th century photographs, they are of the deceased, which are very creepy). And even in modern days, photographs are used to identify dead bodies to missing people. I think they are trying to hide something. I think the turians would have photographed their dead, since it would help identify who's died in their population.

I'm sure Saren and every other turian who thinks their species is superior will be happy with this theory. xD Well, until someone tell them they created humans. Maybe that would make the turian councillor able to "dismiss" the Reapers into oblivion. (Although, I think the Reapers were technically the ones who "made" humans and turians according to Mass Effect, or they at least helped provide the guidelines.)

To answer that question from several pages back about if I like all the squadmates or not - I don't like all of them, but I like most of them. Garrus is my favorite (obviously). Wrex, Tali, Grunt, and Thane are also in my group of favorites. Then there's the other characters I like, Legion and Mordin. Kaidan probably would have been in that group too, if it wasn't for Horizon. I liked Liara better in ME2 because she helped Shepard get brought back to life, but not enough to make up for how much thought has to go into dodging her romance in ME1.

I'll probably like Jack and Jacob more on a MaleShep playthrough - it's just that Jack starts being pretty rude to FemShep when she doesn't want to talk (and I think she's an interesting character too, the type who would usually be included in my favorites), and my FemShep just couldn't talk to Jacob. Miranda got off to a really bad start with my Shepard after that whole "control chip" thing, same with Ashley and some of her comments about aliens (but I still thought Miranda was interesting, not so much for Ashley). Ashley, and Samara, just aren't the types of characters that I like. The only squadmate I really dislike is Morinth, but she'll get used by Evil Shepard because he wants those mind control powers. xD

I can't really comment on Zaeed and Kasumi because they're not in my game. I think I would like them though.

Also, because Cerberus and TIM were brought up too, I'm going to add in that my MainShep decided to stay with Cerberus in the end, even though she likes aliens. She likes TIM. She gave him the Collector base as a "thank you" present for bringing her back to life.

I danced with the Presidium Groundskeeper. He said it was marvelous. And gave me a flower.

The photographing thing on Taetrus is curious. I wonder if it's because they're human, or if this same thing counts for turians?

As for other squadmates, yes, I like them all, some more than others. The only one I really don't like (or hate) is Morinth.

@Janey: Yes, there are many biological differences, but at the core, the species we've observed being couples with each other all have masculine and feminine body shapes, depending on their biological sex. Asari and Quarian females have less broad shoulders, less muscled, etc. Male aliens are typically bulkier, have broad shoulders, taller. And this is science fiction we're talking about - aliens are going to be more like each other when in reality they probably wouldn't. Gender is still a factor here - after all, a straight woman can like Garrus but that doesn't mean she'd also like Liara, or a straight man can like Liara but that doesn't mean he's going to like Thane.

Oh, I understand that. I just feel that since male/female is a division made along biological and social lines, and even though the aliens also have male/female gender splits (well, not Asari) those groupings are going to be along totally different lines than the human equivelent because biology and culture are totally different.

I often feel that gender and sexuality are almost boxes created to make talking about people easier. Being straight doesn't mean you will like ever singly person in your preferred gender pool, nor will they like you back. It's just an indicator of where you naturally look for sexual attraction. There are a multitude of other factors which contribute to actually like someone over and above gender. (In addition, the lines which define one gender from another in terms of action can be culturally specfic. Also, in our society it is reductive to discuss gender as being either male/female, since this negates transexual and transgendered experience. ) Sexuality is a complex business, and it is possible for people to fall for people outwith their preferred sexual preference. I have a friend who has recently come out of a 3 year relationship with another woman. She identifies herself as straight: she doesn't fetishize the female form, nor is she attractred to women in general, she was simply in love with this particular woman and attracted to her. Another gay friend of mine's most recent serious relationship has been with a women. Neither of those guys would identify themselves as 'bi', because in general it is the male form they are attracted to. I'm not attempting to cite this as an everyday turn of events, but I do think that the boxes we currently divide ourselves into for talking about sexuality are limiting considering how complicated human beings are.

When we add alien biology into that mix, however, I think the boxes become even more limiting. Clearly (in game and IRL) not all people are attracted to individuals outwith their own species. Even though the aliens are male/female, it dosn't seem like cross-species attraction is all that common (asari aside. For them it seems a norm. You have to wonder about the asari mind trick thing. Especially after the krogan's comments about the colour of his children.) Garrus makes a point of saying he doesn't have a fetish for humans, just Shepard. And xenophilia is (correct me if I'm wrong) considered a fetish. (In fact, being gay or bisexual used to be considered fetish, to the extent that they were actually classed as paraphilias in some textbooks for defining mental disorders. They weren't removed from these lists until at least the end of the 70s.) I always take that comment as an indicator that in persuing a relationship with Shepard, Garrus is reaching outside his own general sexual preferrence. He may be attracted to Shepard, but never feel any attraction for a single other human for the rest of his life. It stands to reason also that people who are attracted cross-species won't be attracted to all species: ie, one could like Garrus but not like Thane on purely biological attraction grounds. I guess the 'Garrus as bi' question irks me somewhat because I think
that 'bi' would be the wrong word to use. Now, people RP Shepard differently and who their Shep is attracted to and why is up to them, but it strikes me that lumping aliens into the male/female categories and having a simple 'gay/straight/bi' divide is a bit of a shallow way of looking at it on BWs part given the biological and cultural differences.

To be clear, I think that since BW have made the choices they have done already in dealing with the gender and sexuality with aliens thing, then they should stick. I'm not wanting magic presto/chango bisexuality to appear in the relationship pathways. Leave the relationships as they are and let them progress in a satisfying manner. ^_^

Man: I'm about 30 pages behind now. Don't think I'll ever have time to catch up. Liking all the squaddies? I don't like ALL of them, no. Although, the only one that I really properly dislike was a DLC character and so suffered from a lack of conversation, which is probably the proble. I tend to stick with a core team of Garrus/Thane/Mordin/Grunt/Tali interchanging for all my missions anyway. :police:

Interesting
subject. Obviously, not broadcasting images of a battlefield during
wartime makes sense from a tactical POV. It is also probably illegal to
make it easier to arrest people who would do it with actual intent to
spy (eg, they couldn't pretend they were only reporters and be secretly
gathering images as intelligence). As for compromising the memory of the
dead: a lot of cultures view death as a sort of final taboo. The
Victorians used to take photographs of their dead as a form of memorial,
but nowadays most people would probably view such an act as tasteless
(Andres Serrano did some photogrpahy exploring this. He is one of those
who likes to deliberatly 'violate taboo' for 'art') It's like showing
someone in death is showing them at a moment of ultimate vunerability,
in a manner of speaking.  We want to remember our departed as being
vital and full of life, not a broken and empty shell which is what a
corpse essentially is. I can see turians thinking along similar lines,
but who's to say.

Gosh - I have just read my WALL-O-TEXT post back. I'm a cheery one today, aren't I? lol. Sorry. I don't think I'm going to try to catch up anything else. I'm in fear of the BW forums atm because I seem to find DA:O spoilarz everywhere I go. Even the 'No Spoilers' forum gave me a mini spoiler. :(

I gave TIM the base the first time because of Garrus' commenting on the waste of lives sacrificed by destroying it, which made me think twice. The logic there was similar to the logic of not diverting resources to save the Council. However, I later saved the Council and destroyed the base, the first to help humanity's galactic reputation (although saving them doesn't make sense strategically) and the second to prevent TIM from pursuing the humanity-first agenda.

@ Kim Shepard: I like your take on it in terms of gratitude, although I personally couldn't approach it from that angle. I don't feel *that* grateful. I might try that as a Shepard who is a break from one who essentially does it as I would.

Grunt did not interest me much until taking him on more missions; he is exceptionally funny on Legion's loyalty mission- I took him to make sure I had him fully leveled and it turned out to be a fun mission with him along. Zaeed has grown on me- he has useful foe-specific abilities and is sturdy under fire. Kasumi has interesting commentary, especially on the Garrus romance. She also finds Jacob attractive; too bad that doesn't put a stop to femShep talking to Jacob in that oozy awful voice. Thus, I don't talk to Jacob until the very end, when that voice ick stops (and for upgrades/necessities). Jack= as you said, too brusque/rude. Samara reminds me of the Jedi Knight characters, so some nostalgia there. All have their moments, with Garrus and  Tali as favourites, along with Zaeed, Thane, Mordin and Wrex. Miranda's resignation redeems her. Legion is great. No Morinth thus far.

@Cerrryd: Lovely couple you two make, must warn of chafing, otherwise enjoy, dance while you may.

**I'd like to see Shepard and Garrus watch Edward Scissorhands together.**

Here's another Translation Party. This time I translated the sentence "I'd wait, if you're okay with it. Disrupt the crew as little as possible...and take that last chance to find some calm just before the storm.".

It caused this gem to pop up:

"If you are good at it and I waited. Take a long time to find out some cool and hot crew ... last chance before the storm, at least."

Hours of fun to be had with this, methinks.

Grunt, I never USED him.  I could see him staying for the pure reason of killing things and being all "pure krogan" but he lacks the depth of character you get from Wrex.  At this point, I'd rather just have a different krogan than him.  But again, this is just my opinion.

That was exactly my problem with Grunt.  I didn't feel any kind of connection to him, like with Wrex.  He just kind of bored me, and I never really took him anywhere.

eta:  How well do you think Garrus would do with a bow and arrow?  I'd say he'd be damn good with it.
