I don't understand Harbinger's insistence that the asari depend too much on other species for reproduction. That's actually a rather new development for asari, given their lifespan and the time they've spent as a major spacefaring race.

As I understand, Asari-Asari breeding produces offspring that are too much like their parents.

Plus the rare space vampies.

I don't think there's a science fiction universe that doesn't paint humans as unique among all aliens, though. Man, humans are pretty full of themselves.

Humans are the most prominent race in the Star Wars series, but I'm sure if they made humans especially unique as a race rather than as individuals. Then again, I'm not really a Star Wars person outside of KOTOR.

Audiences can identify with humans (or aliens extremely close to humans) more easily. They always figure prominently, whether as the most special, the species from whose perspective the story as told, or in less frequent cases (usually the more preachy ones) as the universe's biggest assholes.

They are never the second most special or the second biggest assholes, or, god forbid, unremarkable in any way,

If my memory is still intact, Liara mentions in ME1 that asari are encouraged to mate with other species. When an asari does that mindmelding thing, she takes the DNA from her partner and randomizes it for the baby. When she does this with another asari, nothing is gained, because the child will be pureblood. Taking another species as your mate gives other DNA to work with, so you have more... special things. Or something. This is all straight out of my head, take it with a big bag of salt.

But that's pretty awesome if humans are really most genetically diverse, because we can only reproduce with another human (or asari). Asari can reproduce with every species, wouldn't that make them more diverse?

Over time, you'd think so. But then Harbinger's dismissal of them is quite true, they do depend too much on other species.

I thought Asari reproduction as depicted in ME was silly.

FemShep's breasts are perfect.

But we were talking about why turians are considered too primitive, right?

Well, I don't know the answer :P

Well garrus doesn't seem so...primitive does he?

Heck he acted more human in ME2 then in ME1. I guess thats what happens when your around with a badass human spectre for a while.

I think Harbinger was taking a dig at the turians' mental abilities. Primitive thinkers.

in general yes, but i don't think garrus is to much of a primitive thinker anymore if you ask me.

This is what I thinhk, Turians are a war race, they don't really ask questions, they bomb things.

Well, the krogan are considered as 'wasted potential' because they got sterilized. Krogan are very primitive thinkers too.

Ya but they are tanks, have a strong immune system and before the Genophage they where very healthy. A Krogan Reaper would have been dangeorus.

I've said it before, but I don't think turians are much for lateral thinking and that it was only through Shepard's influence that Garrus learned to think outside the box at all.

Considering all krogan now descend from the extreme minority population of krogan who suffer the blood rage, I do wonder what the majority of krogan were like before they nuked themselves.

The fact they put themselves in a nuclear wasteland might suggest primitive thinking, but you never know...

One thing to consider is the fact that Harbinger is an arrogant jerk face. Knowing that, you don't have to consider primitive as something that actually describes Turians. I think, similar to what Pacifien said, that Turians (as a race, Garrus doesn't need to count) on military and not enough on art and culture. If you remember in Kasumi's DLC the Turian sculpture was very basic.

Sovereign can be an arrogant jerkface all he wants so long as I have a good subwoofer to accommodate.
