It's nothing something I need to personally worry about, thankfully. None of the ME1 options interested me. I just hope for those in the thread who elected to have one don't get punished too much.

Well, I'm still working on a single Shep .

I'll see what happens. As long as he won't die without having the possibility to save him, I'm fine.

Garrus is principled enough I think that Shepard could push him to "turn" so to speak if Shepard did something completely over the moral event horizon (like say, feeding a species to the Reapers). But such a confrontation would definitely be up front and personal and not a stab in the back.

I'm hoping there won't be this big dramatised cat-fight amongst the ME1 and ME2 LIs.

Me too. Seems too juvenile. I can maybe understand Jack getting violent though. That's her character.

I have a gut feeling they will do it, for marketing purposes. They'll probably put Ashley/Miranda or Ashley/Jack into just to emphasise "the consequences to your choices".

I love it when he says that. He can get pretty pissed when you let his health drop too much.

I would hate for squad mates to die without having the opportunity to save them...that would really suck. I also hope we don't get any "save your LI or save your crew," bull...

I agree, if Shepard did something really really cruel I could see Garrus stepping in. Not that I think anyone in this thread has a Shepard like that as their main/one romancing Garrus.

Garrus is not afraid to voice his opinion, but you'll have to do something really revolting to get rid of him.

Hmm, I wonder...

Garrus: Shepard, what the heck are you doing?
Shepard: (kneeling, but looked up at Garrus) Collecting tissue samples from Thane's socks. Mordin's got a decent amount of credits for these drell skin samples.
Garrus: That's... revolting.
Shepard: Want to join? We need more credits. I've got a spare peg to block the nose and a pair of gloves but...
Garrus: I... think I'll go do some calibrations...

More like:

TIM: Shepard. I found something. We can mobilize the fleets and kill the Reapers. This time, it will really be a suicide mission.
Shepard: Really? Is there no other way?
TIM: Well, EDI also found something else. We have 10 indoctrinated turian babies here. The only alternative is to kill these babies, make baby flavoured cupcakes and eat them with your crew.
Shepard: Hmmm. I'm hungry and I don't feel like fighting a big space battle and dying. Count me in.
Garrus: SHEPARD?! You know I love cupcakes, but you're crossing the line... I'm out of here. I'm no longer behind you, Shepard.

Turian Baby cupcakes?

But what about...

Mordin: Dealing with Reaper fleets problematic. Have a solution.
Shepard: What solution?
Mordin: Gathering samples from the delict Reaper, can actually construct a Reaper without sacrificing millions of lives. However, in order to do so, hybrid child must be made.
Shepard: Huh?
Mordin: Best solution. You'll be surrogate. Noticed your relationship with Garrus. Have Reaper fertitlity injections ready after relieving stress...
Garrus: Shepard, are you seriously considering this?
Shepard: Well, I don't want to die a second time and many lives would be lost. So let's do it.
Garrus: Shepard, this is crazy! I've followed you hell and back and now... I'm leaving. *storms off*
Shepard: *sigh* I suppose I need to convince him.

Mutant babies FTW!!

Greetings Clan Vakarian!  Just thought I'd drop in and show some support for my favourite turian squadmate! I might not be a Garrus-romancer but I do think that he is the most kickass character in ME, period.

Going back a bit, concerning Harbinger's comment about turians being primitive. Reapers value species according to their genes, so I think what he means is that turians are genetically/physiologically primitive, not mentally, and certainly not socially. Their DNA structure is in a distinct minority among sapient races, and they don't have the natural predisposition for techy stuff that quarians have to make up for it. But I'm specifically thinking about their eating and digestive mechanisms, and the fact that they still have a gizzard, like a bird (ie. a non-sapient being) would. That's a pretty primitive and impractical trait to have: they need to eat pebbles in order to digest properly. Their mouth structure also doesn't help with the whole process: no molars for chewing and no possibility of actually holding food in the mouth. They might have other impractical traits that we don't know of, but this is the most obvious one that I could think of.

By comparison, a species that is definitely socially/psychologically primitive like the krogan has an advantage, because of the redundant organ system. That's why Harbinger considers that they actually had potential, more so than turians.

As for asari reproduction, Cerrydd mentioned this:

When an asari does that mindmelding thing, she takes the DNA from her partner and randomizes it for the baby.

That's not quite correct. An asari doesn't take ANY DNA from her partner: she looks for desirable traits in it and randomizes her own DNA to accomodate those traits. That's why the daughters are always asari: the base genetic material is asari. It's basically a funky version of parthenogenesis.

So yeah, if an asari mates with another asari, there's much less genetic diversity to be had, since the mother would be dipping into a gene pool that's extremely similar to her own. Which is what leads to Ardat-Yakshi as a genetic defect. The fact that they're sterile is just an additional way nature has of "warning" asari that "UR DOIN IT RONG!" Basically, it seems that asari mating with asari is an evolutionary dead-end, something almost akin to inbreeding. Of course, an asari mating with any other species is pretty much a form of parasitism (they "prioritize" their own race in the reproduction process), but that's a whole different can o' worms.

Another point for the "less genetic diversity" argument: Morinth looks pretty much EXACTLY like Samara, so much so that she fools everyone aboard the Normandy (at least on a physical level, not on a psychological one). This would go to confirm that their genetic material is extremely close. Of course, this could also be an instance of Morinth influencing people to see her like Samara, just like asari do to make themselves desirable to different races, but she already looks extremely similar to Samara when you first meet her, ie. at a point where she has no incentive to try to look like her.

Re: taking Legion on Tali's LM. It's weird, but I always have EDI telling me to take the shuttle before leaving to do Legion's LM as soon as I approach the galaxy map after getting the IFF. It still allows me to leave normally to do it, but when I come back, it triggers the Collector attack cutscene when I try to access the galaxy map. So I don't even have the possibility to do anything else...Maybe the game allows for leeway for 2 LMs if you have 2 of them active? Since I only have Legion's LM active at that point, it only allows me to do that one...Hmm.

Really? I have to admit, I'm still kinda, I don't know.. nervous to try out the Garrus romance, I mean I know that people adore it and I can certainly understand it,since Garrus is a great guy in general, but I don't know if I would like it. He's been my shep's best friend since ME1, I always thought of him as a kind of brother, you know? I don't know if it makes sense  I never spoiled myself concerning the Garrus romance, so I don't know what it's like.

I was hesitant to try the romance, since my friend kind of laughed at it. I haven't got to the romance scene yet. (The Reaper IFF is installing), but the build-up is pretty cool, but rushed and lacking in dialogue. Garrus is awkward, but it makes him adorable.

@mononyuf. It's a nice romance (far too short!) I do reccommend at least checking it out (although, I am maybe a bit biased. lol) You could youtube the entire thing instead, if you wanted. At least that way it's not 'your' Shepard changing the nature of the relationship. Also, romancing Garrus means MOAR GARRUS DIALOGUE. Which can only be a good thing.

I have rethought my stance on the whole 'Jacob is cheesiest romance ever' thing, after playing DA:O. Good Lord, did I cringe when I finally got Ali (and then later Zev) into my tent. The build up was grand. The cumulation burned my eyes, and the music killed my soul. I think I'm going to need to go romance Garrus again tonight in order to make it all OK again. lol

@Alexine. Only Garrus could manage to be both that badass AND adorable at the same time. He's got more layers than a trifle, amd they are all awesome! XD

Well, I said something about a bag of salt, didn't I? Weird asari reproduction is weird. But yeah, then it makes sense that they're not diverse enough for Harbinger.

Damn, why are we human? :P

Hey Janey, have you heard the ME1 'ahem' soundfiles? I asked yesterday, but you left shortly after. I don't want you to miss out on this good stuff. Unless you already downloaded it of course... :D

@Cerrydd. No. I have certainly heard my share of ME2 'ahem' files (collector swarm death, anyone?) There are files of a sort for ME1 as well? I should find those.... for science, and such. ;) Thanks. :D

This thread is moving faster than I can keep up with these days. lol. Our home internet is down so I'm at the mercy of weak dongle signal. Oh, and sunshine. :D

I love all the CNN turian stuff that's been floating about recently. I think maybe the power that be are finally realsing that turians are where it's at!

I found a way to extract the ME1 soundfiles and stumbled upon some things that made me go... ahem.

Lemme make it easier for you.

Use headphones (you don't want to scare your roommates again, right? :P)

I think today on the way to uni via train, I heard the 'ahem' files. I put my mp3 on random and when one of them played, I was like 'wut'. And I realised I put the 'ahem' files. So now when I play my mp3, it pops in through any random song my mp3 picks.

I want to make more Garrus-Egyptian god pics, but there are no good pics of any scenes on google. So I killed some of my essay break with a sig bar:

How many more dialogues does that mean exactly? :o  Having more chances to talk to him would be great. Is his romance more like Jack's? I mean, you can only find out more about -him- if you're romancing him? And about his awkwardness, is it like Alistair was in DA:O? I don't really want to watch it on youtube first, I'd rather not spoil it for myself. I did watch Jacob's and Thane's, but that was because I knew after the first conversation that I'd never romance either of them (I do love Thane as a character though, Jacob not so much). With Garrus I'm not sure, because I might try it out myself.
