Going back a bit, concerning Harbinger's comment about turians being primitive. Reapers value species according to their genes, so I think what he means is that turians are genetically/physiologically primitive, not mentally, and certainly not socially. Their DNA structure is in a distinct minority among sapient races, and they don't have the natural predisposition for techy stuff that quarians have to make up for it. But I'm specifically thinking about their eating and digestive mechanisms, and the fact that they still have a gizzard, like a bird (ie. a non-sapient being) would. That's a pretty primitive and impractical trait to have: they need to eat pebbles in order to digest properly. Their mouth structure also doesn't help with the whole process: no molars for chewing and no possibility of actually holding food in the mouth. They might have other impractical traits that we don't know of, but this is the most obvious one that I could think of.
By comparison, a species that is definitely socially/psychologically primitive like the krogan has an advantage, because of the redundant organ system. That's why Harbinger considers that they actually had potential, more so than turians.
As for asari reproduction, Cerrydd mentioned this:
When an asari does that mindmelding thing, she takes the DNA from her partner and randomizes it for the baby.
That's not quite correct. An asari doesn't take ANY DNA from her partner: she looks for desirable traits in it and randomizes
her own DNA to accomodate those traits. That's why the daughters are always asari: the base genetic material is asari. It's basically a funky version of parthenogenesis.
So yeah, if an asari mates with another asari, there's much less genetic diversity to be had, since the mother would be dipping into a gene pool that's extremely similar to her own. Which is what leads to Ardat-Yakshi as a genetic defect. The fact that they're sterile is just an additional way nature has of "warning" asari that "UR DOIN IT RONG!" Basically, it seems that asari mating with asari is an evolutionary dead-end, something almost akin to inbreeding. Of course, an asari mating with any other species is pretty much a form of parasitism (they "prioritize" their own race in the reproduction process), but that's a whole different can o' worms.
Another point for the "less genetic diversity" argument: Morinth looks pretty much EXACTLY like Samara, so much so that she fools everyone aboard the Normandy (at least on a physical level, not on a psychological one). This would go to confirm that their genetic material is extremely close. Of course, this could also be an instance of Morinth influencing people to see her like Samara, just like asari do to make themselves desirable to different races, but she already looks extremely similar to Samara when you first meet her, ie. at a point where she has no incentive to try to look like her.
Re: taking Legion on Tali's LM. It's weird, but I always have EDI telling me to take the shuttle
before leaving to do Legion's LM as soon as I approach the galaxy map after getting the IFF. It still allows me to leave normally to do it, but when I come back, it triggers the Collector attack cutscene when I try to access the galaxy map. So I don't even have the possibility to do anything else...Maybe the game allows for leeway for 2 LMs if you have 2 of them active? Since I only have Legion's LM active at that point, it only allows me to do that one...Hmm.
