I think it's more correctly referred to as a carapace. Though hide would probably work, too.

Yea, I've tossed a few terms around in my head too.  Skin seems too human, but we can see some on their necks at least.  Hide works too, and we've seen a turians' carapace reffered to in the CCN.  Still wish we had more to go on than just the concept art.  I mean, I get it's concept art, and the closest we'll get to having a peak under all that armor...
but some of the physical descriptions, coupled with their movement, I'd want to see how the "plates"/hide whatever fits.

/shrug  We'll probably not know for a while, if ever.  But it'd be really nice.  Moar turian facts!  It helps when we think about them all beat up and stuff (and ok, other things BUT THAT'S NOT THE ONLY POINT. XD)

As for the scars and med bay.... eeeeeeeeeeeeh, I still think the whole reasoning behind the scars is a bit ... hinkey.  "Harrrrr you're acting mean, your mind isn't healing your body hurrrrrrrrrr" so we'll give you a med bay to make you all pretty again... too bad the med bay doesn't have degrees of healing.
I'd love to keep SOME of the scaring, but the eyes start to bug me.  And it'd have been nice if you could get some degree of healing for Garrus.  Instead of the bandage/plate, it gets all cyber'd out.  They started doing that with the beerstraws, but it needs more.  Might see that in the future I guess.

I never bought the med bay upgrade, it's a waste of minerals. My Shep is paragon, the scars disappear when I'm playing as myself ;). And I'm paragoning Garrus, so his scars should fade away too... but I don't really mind the scar. It looks pretty cool. I just hope he gets rid of that ugly bandage.

that will be cool if he gets rid of his bandage in ME3 so we can see his wicked scar:O

I try to avoid using a lot of animal body part names for the aliens. They're supposed to be our equals, so it's not a talon, it's a hand, even if it is three-fingered with claws.

I hope as many characters as possible can have the same voices. It wouldn't really bother me if they didn't, but it would still seem really off if Garrus talked in some other guy's voice. If the aliens, at least those who don't look too human-like, are done by special effects, I would assume they'd use the same voice actors. At least, that seems like the reasonable thing to do.

As for the scars, some of my Renegades would definitely choose to heal them. Some wouldn't care, but not all of my Renegades have the same mindset about that. A few of them just take pride in their appearance, and others think people might not be so quick to trust them if they walk around looking like an evil glowing cyborg. Of course, those are just roleplay reasons - nobody cares what Shepard looks like in-game.

Sorry, Garrus. EvilShep thinks he can manipulate people better when he's good-looking. xD

They'll have to come up with something real good looking since he's pretty messed up on the right side. Part of his mandible is missing. Poor Garrus, he must have been in a lot of pain. I know I whine like the world is about to end when I get a paper cut.

I'm curious though what it says about Palaven: it's metal poor core... so all the metal was in the mantle/crust? Otherwise, why would they have metallic skin/plates to protect them? What kind of metals? I wonder if that's almost like skin tone with humans... there's definitely some distinct skin tones out there for Turians.

I think their skin has a metallic sheen and a hardened texture as a means to reflect the UV radiation, which I believe their planet has less protection against than Earth.

I wonder how their eyesight compares to a human. Have the same location, so I don't think depth perception is any different. I wonder if they could have the visual acuity of a bird, being able to focus and recognize detail of an object from much further away than humans. Which reminds me of Farscape when John Crichton learned that every other alien species could see better than his supposedly grand 20/15 vision.

Just thought of how the darkness you find around their eyes might work almost like sunglasses to protect against glare. Palavan might look like Virmire environment-wise, but I wonder if its sun produces a somewhat glaring yet diffuse light on the world.

Hehe, yeah, we've talked a lot about how that bandage is keeping the right side of his face together. But that will heal over time, right? That bandage has to go. It's 2185, if they can resurrect Shepard, they can fully heal Garrus' face.

I don't think the scars will be gone in ME3.

I didn't notice that part of his mandible is missing. D: Does anyone have a good screenshot of the right side of his face?

Oh yeah, they should do that too with Garrus, repair his face. But I guess they don't have time to stop and do that since they have a galaxy to save and I certainly see Garrus tell Shepard to wait until they're done being heroes and go make himself pretty.

The thing is, turians themselves refer to them as talons. At least, according to one of the Cerberus Network news clips. There was a quote from a turian politician referencing this:

Meanwhile, Pavan Sahira, provincial ruler of the Diluvian Wildlands [...] called on Partinax to be merciful and not to “taint the talons of our galactic army with the blood of our own kind.”

@LOLandStuff: Are you sure part of Garrus' mandible is missing? It looks like it's all there to me, just badly scarred.

AM I alone in not wanting to mod my ME game? I mean, as much as I'd love to see Garrus walking around in black (/swoons) I'm just... bleck about modding ME. I've modded Dragon Age, it was a pain, not sure I'll do that again.
I've futzed with my WoW UI, but ME is fine the way it is.
Though admittedly, the lulzy Zombie Garrus/Thane Effect are priceless. XD

Personally, I have a policy of not modding games if I have to download a third-party program to do so. This means I don't get any of the spiffy Garrus mods, but this policy has served me well in the past.

Kim Shepard wrote...

Wow, the Tali thread got permanent
lockdown? Is there a Garrus group to go to if the same thing happens to
our thread? I think Collider has a few character groups...

We talked about a "Clan Vakarian" group a while back, and I think that in light of this we should seriously consider it. I'll create a poll.

Pros:
- We can have off-topic discussion there
- We'll have our own group specifically for this thread, and so won't annoy the other groups
- We have something to fall back on if the same thing happens to us
- The OP can be trimmed and parts moved into group threads

Cons:
- Groups can be more difficult to follow than threads

I can't think of any other Pros/Cons right now, and I'm about to leave for school, but if everyone approves I'd be willing to create it when I get home (or tomorow). I look forward to your opinions!

EDIT: Poll created.

Nah, the scars will stay, but I'm talking about the part that's hidden underneath the bandage. I wonder how bad it is that they cover that part up, while the rest of the right side of his face is already pretty messy.

edit: @ Chimervera: The group, open or private Clan Vakarian? It's good to have a group as a back up when this thread goes to hell.

Well if they had to use cybernetics then probably a part of his face is missing.

Ok, sorry, my bad. I took a closer look at some screenshots I have, and yes, part of his mandible IS actually missing. It's the bit that covers his teeth. I'ma try to pick out a shot where you can clearly see it.

Image IPB

The part you're pointing at, LOLandStuff, is under the bandage, so we can't know either way.

It depends on what the Clan wants. I'm thinking public at first, at leat. After that, I'm not sure. I'd probably create another poll, maybe?

Also: the poll, in case anyone missed my edit.

And I really have to leave now, or I'll be late. See you all when I get home!

Doesn't Garrus have his bandages off in the DLC alternate armor? Can someone take a screenshot of that?

That metal thing on the side of his head could possibly be holding his face together, or keeping the mandible attached, or something like that.

I think a group would be a good back-up too, just in case this thread gets lockdown. And we wouldn't have to worry about going off-topic with other Mass Effect discussion that isn't completely related to Garrus. xD

Alright, here's the bit I'm talking about:

Image IPB

I believe it's missing on the right side.

@ Kim Shepard: No, he still has the bandage in the DLC armour. He just has a mouthpiece stuck to it.

On a picture-related note, I found a gorgeous piece of Garrus/Shep fanart...but it's NSFW. Should I still post the link? Image IPB It's nothing mentally scarring...just a lot of skin involved.

Oh, err, that sounds both quite interesting and rather upsetting, KG D:. Yeah, scarred skin always looks a bit funny while it's healing, so I never really thought much about the color of Garrus' scar.

And Xsauce, so great!

You know what's funny, Minardii?  When the nurse told me I wouldn't have a permanent scar, I laughed the blue off his...I mean, I literally laughed in his face. :P  The injury looked horrible for a rather long time...but he was right.  I don't have any scar.  I can't even tell which hand it was. :)

Not that I mind scars, of course.  Image IPBGarrusImage IPB

Wow, i really did not see the tali thread do anything wrong rather then post a lot, maybe what chris meant is that the thread is to big to stay on the forums, i'm not sure. But i think its inevitable that we are going to get the same thing eventually. So i hope we have a group we could go back to once it does happen.
