I suppose the reason why kids don't leave home-world or the colonies that they had been established in. I recalled from a particular interview from Casey Hudson or someone from BW that most of the places Shepard visits in both ME series are more adult places (though there is some kind of plot hole in a few of them).

Good point. Zakera Ward is supposed to be one of the most criminal infested places on the Citadel, so I can imagine that some people would want to keep their kids away. Omega is also dangerous. Illium is mostly a business world, I guess...

Though the presidium could potentially have children.

She's practically a recolored forty year old with a handful of wrinkles and a lean, well-conditioned body.

Or in other words, they just used the default human female body they used for just about every human female ;)

Well I like Garrus because he's a character unlike any I've seen before, physically I find the huge... What should I call it, basket... Circular wall thing he has behind his head very attractive, there's something manly and handsome about it in a way I can't quite understand myself.

He's also got strong arms and legs and that tiny waist is awesome.

Personality wise I was immediately drawn to Garrus because he's like one of those hero-complex guys. He loves putting down criminals but gets so absorbed in it that his methods become somewhat questionable, a bit like Rorschach from watchmen but waay toned down with Garrus. The fact that Shepard can sort of purge that in him is nice, Like with Dr. Salarian, he realizes that he was too agressive and goes "Shepard, you're unlike anyone I've ever met." (<33333 KAWAII .__.)

Oh and let's not forget his voice, it's very nice and silky. He's much more interesting than Kaidan in the way that he's not overly noble. Kaidan annoys me because he's such a romantic that he sometimes just comes off as cheesy.

- what first attracted you to Garrus?
His personality mainly. He's got a badass upgrade, with a sense of humour.

- Did you find him interesting in that way in ME1, or was it something that set in in ME2?
Nah, not in ME1. I liked him in ME1 in design, just that he was a bit too immature. In ME2, he's sort of hardened and more cynical, which I kind of liked. His voice also got more edger.

- What's your favorite part of Garrus' personality?
His honesty. I find that he was more realistic in ME2, since he did have a mind of his own, rather than in ME1 with him going blindly into things.

- Favorite part of his romance?
When he gets all awkward and adorable in his romance scence. It's one of those things that make you go D'awww and laugh at the same time.

For the guys (unless you're flammie, haha), why do you see Garrus as a "bro" or cool character?

His voice got me when I first heard it.  The first time I played I almost quit because I was bored out of my skull.  Then that voice of his came up and it was like "wha?"  Hooked from word one.  Personality-wise he's like all my guy friends rolled into one.  Romance:  there isn't just one part that I can deem as my fave.  Posted Image

IMO, Kaidan needs more of an edge to him. He doesn't need to brag or beat his chest or anything, but getting to learn how he earned his medals would have been interesting, and would have certainly made him more appealing (not to say he's boring - just saying there was some potential there in his Alliance history). Or discover that he's into guns or sports or something. That would certainly go a long way for more male players to like him. He also lacks the bromance aspect (in ME1 anyway, there was a little in ME2) which I hope is fixed in ME3.

--
Garrus is Turian batman. His intentions are noble and he's not afraid to strike down the unjust. That's pretty damn cool already. He's also a great bro for M!Shepard (or F!Shepard if you don't romance him) because (in addition to the turian batman thing) he listened and greatly respected Shepard in ME1. Also, in ME2 there's a lot reminiscing about old times, and you even get to joke around with him about his scars. Epic.

I think I might not have liked him as much if I'd not heard the description of his romance in ME2 on deviantart. I'd probably have not noticed him as much... But when I play I like to "prepare" Shepard and him, so to speak for ME2 by making them good friends.

Yeah Garrus got more badass in ME2, that's a good thing. I love his snarky comments too. He has that likeable, cynical sense of humor that I always find appealing... (Because I have a bad tendancy to do it myself in real life.)

Oh one more thing, GARRUS DOESN'T QUESTION ME ALL THE TIME. HE LISTENS TO SHEPARD. Excluding the whole Sidonis spiel where he gets really angry when you block his view, Garrus only suggests things,  he's not like Ashley/Kaidan/Jacob/Miranda who are constantly underestimating you and your decisions and constantly saying it's not a good idea.

I'm the captain and you should goddamn listen to what I say whether you like it or not private.

Point about Wynne is that her face is clearly designed to be attractive as well. Your point about her body is well-made though.

I liked that story about Kaidan killing his biotics instructor when he was protecting a crush, but other than that he's not so interesting. One moment he's formal and **** and all "ma'am" and then the next he's saying you're beautiful, it's just a bit too fast moving. Same with Jacob, his romance is already a mess and on top of that he's constantly vag-blocking Shepard. When she comes on to him he pushes her off all the time and then all of a sudden he wants her. I'm not blaming him though, since in his romance Shepard is a bit creepy.

Goodnight Jacob Nevara. >:)

To be fair, I think Miranda's technically your co-equal in ME2. That doesn't negate your point, of course, but she's the head of the Lazarus Cell. You're the captain of the Normandy but ultimately, the operation's her baby just as much as it is yours (so to speak).

Actually, I found Kaidan's romance well paced. I actually didn't mind Kaidan as a character, but his romance seemed so typical and when Garrus and Thane both step in, poor kaidan is overshadowed.

At least Kaidan romance overshadows the Jacob romance personally.

Yes, okay Miranda being the one slight exception.
I don't find her that awful, but I think her face isn't that attractive and the way she treats Jack is pretty dumb. Seeing that Jack is screwed up one should be more mature than her, especially if you're a person like Miranda who is supposed to be mature. Instead Miranda just is violent back, like a big sister being mad at her little sister. And I have experience in that field. Being mad at someone who's clearly got a more tinted perception of the world never works. It just makes everything worse.

Okay, I laughed. But I didn't really think about Bioware trying to make her attractive in her design or something when I played Dragon Age. She is, as danitwa said, pretty unwrinkly for her age though. Might be the spirit magic that keeps people more youthful.

I think considering she's so old she's made to look attractive, but if Biowere really wanted to make her so sexy she wouldn't be an old lady.

Just a comment on a comment in this topic - about Garrus' armor. It was made heavier and bulkier - for the Garrus romancers, did that make him more attractive than say his ME1 armor? Or for guys, does that make him cooler for you (the ME2 armor)?

Perhaps a little bit, and augh why can't I just do my work? X____X STOP CHECKING THE GARRUS THREAD DANI. Collider why you ask such interesting, tempting questions?

I guess if you compare the two yeah the second armor is more attractive, because it makes him seem more mature, grown up. I even get the feeling he's taller in the second game. Maybe it's just me.

For the guys (unless you're flammie, haha), why do you see Garrus as a "bro" or cool character?

From the start of ME1 I was interested in Garrus, but at first it was simply platonic. He (and Wrex) became my permanent squad, and over the course of the game he became the character I looked forward to talking to the most. I liked talking to everyone...but with Garrus there was this eager anticipation that no-one else gave me. About halfway through the game I had a moment where I realised "Oh Em Gee...I think I'm in love!".
At that point I was already romancing Liara, but every playthrough since I've kept myself single and pretended that I was romancing Garrus.

Hmm, this sounds like a cop-out answer, but I really can't pick a favourite aspect of his personality. But I have problems thinking about characters (anyone, really) in terms of their relative personality traits, which probably has something to do with it.

My favorite part of his romance is a tie between the final romance scene and the "because I'm in a great place to optimize firing algorithms..." conversation. The former because it's so emotional and touching, the second one because that whole conversation just makes me blush and giggle and 'aaaaaw'. (Just don't tell anyone - I don't think my mean horrible reputation could handle it :P) That conversation just seems so defining of their relationship.

To be honest, I didn't even notice until it was mentioned. When I first heard people squee'ing about it, I had to go back and re-watch the video! (This was before the game was released, back when I was still a lurker) I was too busy swooning over his new high-res textures :P But yes, after it was mentioned I did think it was cooler and more attractive than his ME1 armour.

Ha, Nivenus...don't get me started on my unrequited Canderous crush. I'm pretty much guaranteed to fancy the one character you can't romance in a game...Sarevok in BGII:ToB (fortunately there's now a very good mod), Canderous in KotOR, Bao Dur in KotOR II, Zu in JE, Loghain in DA:O (I know, I know...).

But fortunately I now have Garrus. I didn't mind Kaiden in ME, he was one of the better Bioware romances (mercifully free of dead relatives and other hang-ups)...but on the other hand, he's a bit clean-cut for my own tastes. Kaiden is a nice guy but he looks as though he spends way too long blow-drying his hair.

I didn't crush on Garrus in ME but he was by far my favourite companion. There is just something cool about him that I find very appealing. I like his dry wit. And in ME2, he only becomes more badass and more witty. When I found out he was a romance option, I thought "oh cool!"

But of all of them, his is the most touching. I did like Thane a lot, but the whole tragic angle and dead wife seems standard Bioware-fare. Garrus is just, well, awkward and funny and real.

I imagine sleeping with him would be like making out with the cutlery drawer but love conquers all.

Like the Garrus screenshot, Andaius! Contrasting Garrus keeps me motivated to patch up my essay. :D

And I actually like both armours. The heavy armour does make him look impressive and more badass (and masculine, but sadly due to the feminine wash-out I used to be in during the last few years dimmed the physical appeal of bulky masculinity), but it does give me thought that it would be rather cumbersome. But like the badass Garrus, he can cope with nearly everything. :P
