Collider, you ask too many good questions.

Garrus in ME1 was part of my standard team. He and Kaidan. I usually play a Vanguard, so I really prefer the whole balance thing. I liked him, loved his voice, but he came across as the student/little brother to Shep. That and I'm probably one of the few who really likes Kaidan in ME1 in this thread. :)

So, I recruit this guy Archangel, and he's bigger than the turians we're used to (Less waspy waisted, broader shouldered), moves with a confidence my old pal didn't used to have and can apparently deal with great personal loss and kick ass at the same time.

And then he removed his helmet. I was willing, however, to wait for Kaidan until Horizon and Garrus' rather painful sounding, "You had reports?!?!" Then it was, Kaidan who?

They did seem to make Garrus bigger in ME2 than he was in ME1. I don't remember him towering over Shepard at all.

I think turians in general were suppose to be towering, because they are supposed to appear over six feet tall, which was what I didn't feel for Garrus in ME1.

Actually, thinking about it, is Garrus share heights with ManShep, since FemShep is slightly shorter than Garrus. Just curious...

I like Kaidan, but for different reasons than I like Garrus. I personally think that Garrus is more interesting, and I would have liked some sort of friendship with Kaidan in ME1. I mean there's a some hinting in ME2, but if Shepard is a friend to Kaidan (a Shepard that didn't romance him, that is) then it seems to have developed off screen.

I think that may be part of the reason why Kaidan isn't as popular as Garrus for male players, because with Kaidan you never really get to bond with him that much as M!Shepard. There's a little of it when you recruit Liara and M!Shepard can say "I saw her first," to which Kaidan replies "Only by a few seconds," but that's for both genders and that's basically it.

I really like Kaidan, but I wish he had a friendship aspect because that would make him at least a little more interesting. I realize this has little to do with those who romanced Kaidan, but many people didn't. Correct me if I'm wrong on any points - I haven't played ME1 in quite a while.

So I think one of the reasons why Garrus is a popular, well liked character pretty much universally is because there is a lot of bonding/friendship between him and Shepard.

Garrus is definitely taller than M!Shepard. Makes sense because Turians are taller than humans in general.

FemShep doesn't get that line.  He tells her he's not interested in Liara because he prefers "adventurous women."

I don't remember Garrus being quite THAT tall in ME1 as he is in  ME2.

Back from a weeklong vacation and basement flooding to return to the warm embrace of the Garrus thread, with this to say:

- what first attracted you to Garrus?
He was hands-down my favorite character in ME1, though I couldn't quite place why. Looking back, it was probably the voice. ^_^ And how intense and serious he tried to be, with that feel of inexperience and youthful exuberance underneath.

- Did you find him interesting in that way in ME1, or was it something that set in in ME2?
Not right away, but after hearing others suggest the idea, it intrigued me. Posted Image

- What's your favorite part of Garrus' personality?
They way he gets so pumped up during fighting. When you talk to him on the ship he seems pretty cool and collected, but put a sniper rifle in his hands and throw him out at some geth and he's all "Boom! Headshot!!LOL!"

- Favorite part of his romance?
Definitely the culmination. As awesome as he is in combat, it's oddly fun to watch him squirm like he does.

Thank you for that correction. I still lament the absence of more bromance dialog with Kaidan though.

I don't remember Garrus being quite THAT tall in ME1 as he is in  ME2.

Most likely, the bulkier armor gives him the illusion of also being taller.

Tried to find a pic I saw that I could swear showed that Garrus was slightly taller than M!Shep. Alas, I will keep looking....

And ah-hah! Had to link it, but there it is.

Edit: And good luck getting that image out of your head, everyone. Posted Image

But can you prove he's about the same height in ME1?

The problem with a bromance with Kaidan is that you're usually going to have to Virmire him to save Ashley.  I guess they figured it wasn't worth it, so they gave you the bromances with Garrus and Wrex instead.

Kaidan also doesn't have moral dilemmas that play themselves out as missions like Garrus does (Saleon, Sidonis). That alone makes Garrus far cooler.

I'd say that I prefer that Kaidan comes to you without issues. That for once, there's a guy you don't have to play shrink to. But this isn't the Kaidan support thread.

I don't mind helping Garrus, I really don't. But can he not need revenge for something in ME3, please? I mean, in ME1, he avenged his professional reputation and Saleon's victims. In ME2, he avenged his team (or realized that he needed to do right by Sidonis, too), and got revenge against the Collectors for Shepard's death. Can he please not need vengeance in 3?

I don't really have any problems with Kaidan. Unfortunately my Main Shepard tends to cloud my judgement at times. She's Earth Born/Sole Survivor and has issues with abandonment and hates Cerberus with a passion, she wanted so badly to get as many non-Cerberus people with her as she could, especially Kaidan whom she romanced in the first game. But after Horizon her feelings for him sort of broke, this particular Shepard really needed him and he wasn't there for her, so now her feelings are rather dark towards him and it brushes off on me. But yeah luckily she realised there was one guy who had always been there for her and maybe being attracted to a Turian wasn't as crazy as she thought it was 2 years ago~

That's almost exactly what Meghan felt since she's sole survivor, Earthborn, too.

Everything should be equal in a relationship. Including neuroses.
