Perhaps I should change it to "we've got levo/dextro wine." =)

Hey guys, thought I'd pop in for a bit to ask a question. Has anyone else been having huge trouble with LJ lately? Half of the pages I try to visit (one of which is the masskink meme) straight up don't work anymore. I just get a 'cannot locate remote server' error. I'm.. pretty sure? It hasn't been closed down because this is happening with my own LJ account too. Is anyone else having this problem, or know how to fix this? I need my massmeme fix!

Thanks Kim. It's really useful and will help to make sure that my Shepards act in character when I do my "canon" playthroughs for ME3.

I'd have novels written if I wrote down all the dialogue choices -.-

I just write them down like this:
--
Wounded Mercenary
)I've got medigel.
)Jedore? Krogan pack?
)Don't answer that.
)Renegade Interrupt
)Sounds familiar.
--
Tank Bred Krogan
)Old enough to know.
)Investigate > Voice & Enemy
)Investigate > Jedore
)Is what he says possible?
)But you failed?
)Investigate > Seven days old
)Come with us.
--

About investigate - sorting them while writing them down helps to make what Shepard says have more of a logical flow. I write them down in the order that makes sense and makes sense for my Shepard.

I might make something like this eventually. It would just take me forever to write it all down because I would use Shepard's exact words for every possible conversation. xD

I always try to choose the investigate options in an order that makes sense too.

I'd be highly surprised if there aren't artificial, proteins-free versions of most luxury goods in Citadel space. The turians have been a respected presence for something close to a thousand years - have they really had to order two separate bottles of wine for every cross-species summit or business dinner for that long? There's probably a "dextro/levo safe" certification, like you find the kosher stamp on all kinds of things these days.

And also I've been thinking about making a character to post on Cerberus Daily News, I've seen their forum, and it actually looks pretty fun to role play a character you made up and pretend your living in the galactic community.

Man, I haven't been in online RP in like....10 years? 15? But tempted...

Zalmida's fantastic WIP

There's been some kick-ass art through this thread, but this is begging to become my desktop wallpaper when you finish.

First of all, I have yet to see where this Mass Effect RP is and am dying to rectify that. I haven't RP'ed in a while either. Thought I had outgrown it, but this fandom tempts me to try again.

Secondly, I am freaking flattered as hell. Guess I'd better learn how to color this.

*What is important, seeing we made a difference in events and a character's life, and/or getting the outcomes we want (for instance, those in the Achievements list)?

*What drew you to Mass Effect? What decisions did you make that you re-did then decided to stick with your original choice? Why? Or changed and if so, why?

I've been playing JRPGs for a good while now (mostly Final Fantasy and Tales of) and never really given a thought to WRPGs after playing Neverwinter Nights, which I didn't like. Had the old "bad Tolkien ripoff" prejudice going. But characters in JRPGs are pretty rigid in their development, and sometimes you wish things had played out differently, or you at least had the possibility of making a choice. That's what got me interested in ME. The fact that it wasn't another Medieval setting also helped a lot. Of course, I've also given in to DA:O since, so the Medieval argument is starting to become really flimsy, lol.

As for experimenting with responses, I only do that to pick ones that I'd like. Once that's done, I'll usually stick to those same choices on my next playthrough. I've done very little of that in ME, however: I've never reloaded for any of the "big" choices (Rachni queen, Council, Virmire, etc.), and I've never really been tempted to try the other outcomes. My first reload on ME1 was actually to respond to Kaidan after Virmire. The Paragon response struck me as way too sappy and unprofessional on Shep's behalf, so I reloaded and picked neutral. My first reload on ME2 was after trying to have a casual convo with Jacob with a FemShep. The only relatively important choice I made differently in ME1 was killing Helena Blake on my very last playthrough. In ME2, my MaleShep picked a few Renegade interrupts that my FemShep didn't. But that's it. I've never felt like playing a Renegade, letting Ashley live, killing the Council or giving the Collector Base to TIM.

However, while I know which choices I want to make, I'm still an achievement hunter. So, if there's a way for me to save, get an achievement which involves doing something I don't want to do and reload to play the way I want to, then I'll do that. Fortunately, there's, like, ONE achievement in both MEs which requires that: the Renegade one for ME1. I got that by exploiting the Lorik glitch and reloading. But had there been an achievement, say, for killing Wrex and another one for letting him live, I would've saved, killed him, reloaded and let him live. There's a lot of that going on in DA:O, by contrast.

On a completely different note: yay, another Myst fan! I love those games!

@ Zalmida: Ooo, that looks nice!

@ silentstephi: I got the "you'd make a cute couple" convo with Kelly naturally on my first, MainShep playthrough. All you need to do is recruit Garrus, talk to him down in the battery, then talk to Kelly. Cue "I just want to hold him and tell him everything will be ok" Shep: "I know exactly how you feel." Kelly: "You'd make such a cute couple!"

If you recruit Mordin before Garrus, you might need to talk to Kelly after that as well, just to get her Mordin comment out of the way.

She can also comment about Thane having a bad boy vibe and ask Shep if she's into that. And, for a MaleShep, she can tell him that Tali's attracted to him, to which he can respond "I always knew there was something there."

I'm guessing they meant this site - click 'The Forum' link to the right there.

And I'll use it black & white if that's easier on you. I just love it - the more I think about Garrus/FemShep the more I like it. They're partners in every sense of the word, a close couple whose usual "outing" is shooting their way through several dozen mercenaries, and that particular pairing image really makes that 'pop'.

So I've browsed a few threads so far and one in every three posts makes me lol all over the place. I may need to join up.

I always keep a lineart copy of everything and try to color it later as a seperate file. You can definitely have that when I finished :P

I have a fanfic-related question:

I'm currently trying to brew up a FemShep/Garrus fic myself, and I wanted some advice on pacing. At first, I was going to only cover ME2-timeline events (starting with Garrus on Omega right before Sidonis betrays them), but then I started wondering whether I should take it back as far as the very first meeting with him on the Citadel, to show a more gradual buildup to the relationship.

However, I have several problems with this: 1) it could make the fic at least twice as long; and since I'm a slow, meticulous writer, that could take ages to finish, 2) I'm more inspired by the ME2 events, to the extent that I'm having trouble coming up with interesting moments from ME1 to focus on (apart from the obvious Saleon episode), and 3) being a stickler for canonicity, I'm not quite comfortable with how little we know about Garrus' past, or about how the turian military or C-Sec work; sticking to just ME2 won't completely neutralize that problem, but it should make it somewhat easier to avoid, since he'll be having other things on his mind.

So my question is, what do you think would work best? Something more gradual, or something more punchy and more angsty, at the expense of a purely friendly relationship buildup?

I've been avoiding reading other people's fics for a while now, because I don't want to pick up any stray ideas and influences X_X Kind of annoying, actually: I wanna read that stuff! Another argument for being done with my fic sooner rather than later...but I don't want to sacrifice quality either.

@Nilfalasiel: Starting from the beginning is often good when writing a story. It can confuse things if you start in the middle so to speak.

Shepard and Garrus have spent very little time together so some background for both would explain how they rather abruptly fell for eachother during rather extreme conditions. They are both far from the ordinary turian or human so I think giving that some explanation would be good.

But yeah, the story could become a bit too long that way.

@Zalmida: They both look very badass.

Well, I would be working around that problem with flashbacks/memories. Just that it wouldn't be as detailed as actual chapters devoted to the episodes in question.

Hmm... :\\\\\\\\ (Edit: I have no idea why there are so many slashes there...I can't seem to remove them!)

Both work well I think and people will want to read both types at different times, I find that I prefer reading the longer ones that have a gradual build up, I've actually found myself printing them off and reading them in bed at night even!  The punchy angsty ones are enjoyable too though and this might be how you want to develop your writing style!

Sacrificing quality is subjective - if you're like me - I still have no idea what my writing is like, I put up a couple of stories that I thought were OK and everyone is so nice at fanfic.net with their criticism but I feel I haven't had any REAL criticism, I suspect if its rubbish they don't comment - and considering the pitiful number of reviews I've had I'd say I'm probably currently sitting in the crap camp right at this moment.  I can't get my partner to read them he just flat out refuses so I've been begging friends to read it just so they can give me an honest answer!   I don't need to be told I'm good - just that I'm not totally deluded!

Nah. I stand by my theory that all the wine was for her. Garrus heard somewhere that in human pre-coital interaction, it is the man's job to get the chick good and drunk first.

Go with what's currently inspiring you.  Strangling or reigning in the muse leads to ideas drying up.  Tell ME1 from flashbacks if you're more inspired by ME2.
