War Hero single-handedly holds the line (and that means the rest of her/his unit is probably dead)

I mean, point taken given you keep the colony standing - which means heavy losses you managed to abate - but the rest of your unit could have been anywhere.

By the rest of the unit, I meant the rest of the people who were supposed to be defending the place. Shep couldn't have been the only soldier there, even if on shore leave. Besides, Kaidan comments on this after Virmire, if you nuke Ashley: he asks a War Hero Shep how they dealt with the losses on Elysium, making it sound personal.

The War Hero psych profile says that you risked your life to save your fellow soldiers, so I guess some people must've been fighting alongside Shepard.

Planetary garrison troops - who, in all likelihood, were a couple dozen FNGs with middling technicals straight out of boot, shipped off to a do-nothing post like Elysium.

That said, I feel like I'm defending a point I didn't make. All I was going for was "Of all the lines they could have chosen for Shepard talking down Garrus, I imagine they picked the one they did on the strength of the Sole Survivor background being the default assumption".

I can never get over the fact that Garrus has the most ugliest casual outfit during his romance. Aussie green with blues and lined with yellow. Just wut???

Garrus' colours in armour are the best (blue, silver, blacks with a hint of red), yet the colour palette in his casual outfit are attrocious. :(

Yes bloody terrible colour Alexine! Reminds me of mould.  I like the maroon colour (or is it reddish brown) on the DLC pack armour.  I like the loyalty armour too - however it always seemed daft to me that it would have blast holes from the gunship when he wasnt even wearing it at the time! Perhaps some digital touch up needed for his casual wear.....

Aww, cute! But looking at the face, it reminds me of the dragons from Eragon.

Garrus the dragon... wait, my mind went somewhere. :?

Psychological warfare - wouldn't you try to get him out of that outfit faster than others?

Yeah...

If Garrus wasn't so adorable, I wouldn't bother. :P I'll just ask him to take it off himself.

Okay, I found the turian insignia info. Thank you, Mass Effect Wiki. Kepler Verge - Newton - Ontarom - Bostra Outpost. And the Wiki also says that Nihlus was born in a small mercenary outpost, so it's possible...

I LOVE YOU.

I'm so updating the Tattoo DB RIGHT NOW.

The turian councilor and Nihlus both share a tattoo... so this means we know where Turian!Councilor is from /happy squee

BTW, wasn't he named? Don't we have names for all three councilors now?

The turian councilor is the much-discussed Velarn, and to my understanding the asari is named as well, but not the salarian.

Since I know people on this thread are having quote issues, I thought I'd point out that I started a thread about it on the website support forum. I'd PM Priestly about it, but he's apparently on sabbatical at the moment. I'm not sure if Woo is also a forum maintainer as well as a mod, though I suppose a PM to him might get a response quicker than having someone respond to the thread. Still, figured the thread couldn't hurt.

Just a curious question, what other responses do people you know who don't know ME have when they see Garrus? So far I've mainly got 'butt-ugly', but I did get one 'asthetically colourful' from a design friend of mine.

They all think he's ugly and they think I'm crazy for liking him this much. That's why I'm so happy to have found this thread :D. Oh well, never judge a book by its cover, I suppose. They should play the game and reconsider their opinions. Garrus is awesome, he has an interesting personality and a voice to make you drool. YUMMY.

I wonder why I take one look at Garrus (before I even hear him) and think he looks very interesting while another will look at him and think he is a disgusting space creature that's going to chew their face off.

And it's not necessarily all Turians that I look at and think they look pretty good, Garrus is designed in such a way that he looks pretty handsome in comparison to other Turians. The texture of his skin is a bit smoother, his eyes are a bit brighter, he's got very symmetrical lines. Actually, his scars really did diminish his handsome design for me, but by then, he makes up for it with personality, voice, and general badassness.

Pac, you really think the scars detract from his handsomeness?

I mean, they are pretty disfiguring (and sexy) but it def makes it easier to pick him out from the rest of the turian bunch.

They also give him a battle hardened look that really fits with his change in personality from ME1 to ME2.

It's probably not the best way to put it. If I had never seen Garrus until he walked up with the heavy scars on his face, it's likely I wouldn't have immediately pegged him as handsome. However, I certainly would have been intrigued by the story behind the scars. I'd want to know more about Garrus, and then his personality and voice are what become important to the attraction. Then it's likely the scars stop being a factor and become part of his overall charm.

I know it's shallow, but such is the way of solely visual interpretation. I think everyone is prone to shallowness and stereotypes in various situations, it's reigning in such gut reactions and choosing to dig deeper that gets you the full measure of a man. Plus, the longer you're around certain people, the more familiar everything about them becomes and your stereotypes change.

This. I'm not quite sure what it is about him that makes him aesthetically pleasing, but he definitely is.

-His mandibles are neater and smaller than some: eg. one of Aria's guards has massive flaring mandibles.

-His face is compact and well-proportioned, as opposed to, say, the guard that tries to stop you from entering the quarantined area on Omega; he's got a massive forehead.

-His nose isn't too short (again, cf. Aria's guard).

-His tattoo pattern goes very well with his face colour. It's harmonious and unique. Only blue tattoo pattern we've seen, yes?

-And he has lovely blue eyes, even though that's probably not unique to him.

But I do like his scar as well. Gives him flavour. The "don't mess with me, I eat rockets for breakfast" kind of flavour Posted Image

Oh my gosh, the board is letting me quote someone!! Posted Image  Alert the media...LOL
The board is also acting all hinky and whatnot with the settings messed up so that everything scrolls off the screen.  Yes, I know I could probably fix that, but I am really afraid to do anything at all to the settings because that might mess up the tenuous connection I still have to here.  I'm like really paranoid about it.  Maybe if I make it to page 1000, I'll try something else then.

This dialup thing sucks.  Garrus, you're lucky you're totally worth it.  I can't think of another character for whom I would be putting up with this. Posted Image

When RigAudio used to do his live playthroughs of Ugly Shepard, he had the notorious issue of Garrus dying all the time. (Yes, I know people get a better survival rate out of the guy, but he still has the notorious reputation.) My comment every time Garrus died was "He likes to stop bullets and rockets with his face!" That's the only explanation I could come up with for his tendency to avoid cover.

QFT.  I don't know either, but he wouldn't be half as appealing if it weren't for the character's personality.

I remember one of my old computer purchases was right before webpages became common use on the Internet. I could load the Netscape browser, but it would take a ridiculously long time, and even then I couldn't load any images with it.

I know you don't want to touch anything for fear that the entire system will fail, but I'm sure there's a way to set the browser not to load images on the webpage. You'll miss the artwork and screenshots, but you can at least read people's reactions to them and it'll load faster. :P

And then you can live in my world circa 1993/94.
