I wonder why I take one look at Garrus (before I even hear him) and think he looks very interesting while another will look at him and think he is a disgusting space creature that's going to chew their face off.
And it's not necessarily all Turians that I look at and think they look pretty good, Garrus is designed in such a way that he looks pretty handsome in comparison to other Turians. The texture of his skin is a bit smoother, his eyes are a bit brighter, he's got very symmetrical lines.

I like all turians now, but (and I've posted this before) the first time Nihlus walked onto the bridge in ME1 and said, "1500 is good...your captain will be pleased."  I just about jumped off the sofa and out loud I exclaimed, "What is that *thing* and why isn't anyone attacking it?!?"  Of course now I am very ashamed at that reaction. Posted Image
But you gotta admit, he looks reasonably menacing in that facepaint! Posted Image

Also, I really like Garrus's fringe and I think it looks nicer than some other turians'.  It's longer and I think that looks better than the shorter fringes you see on some other characters.

Netscape! LOL! Oooh, the good old days. Back when I considered downloading with Napster at 2 kb/s fast.

The biggest part of being attracted to Garrus is definitely his personality for me. I wasn't too thrilled to see my brother play ME day in day out, and I didn't like it that he was playing a game with 'moronic aliens'. When he finally convinced me to play ME myself, I really started to like the aliens and the universe. In the end, the two least human-looking aliens were my favourite squaddies.

So yeah, if I was the one who didn't play ME and my friend was the one drooling over Garrus, I would probably have the same reaction that she has now: "WHAT?! He's ugly!"

Fortunately, opinions can change and I looove Garrus now ^_^

I always thought turians were cool looking. I was still in Star Trek mode, so seeing an alien race that actually looked pretty alien was new and intriguing to me.

Pac I can see where you're going with the stereotypes and how when things become more familiar your perceptions change. Case in point, when I met my husband I didn't think much of him (his friend was cuter), but a few weeks later and I was hooked. (He's pretty funny XD)

So... random thought:

humans have their own little cleaning rituals (having just taken a shower, shaved, brushed my teeth, etc...)

I wonder what the equivalent would be for turians? (Admittedly, I was thinking about quarians because I was curious if quarians sweat, and if they do, how do they keep themselves hygienically clean. Being in a suit day in and day out has to get really funktastic. Do they have a day of DT er something to just get the suit sweat or junk or whatever away?)

But think of their teeth... do they brush them? Do they chew on something to keep them in shape or clean? Do they have dry mouths, bad breath? Do they shower? Clip their plates? We know they sweat... how do they make sure they stay clean?

Oo

So many questionssssssssssssss....

I had this thought once that Turians teeth continuously grew and they had to rip into something constantly to keep them pointed and short. Kinda like a rabbit. I don't think that's actually the case, but the amused me at least.

Clipping plates, huh? Imagine them having to scrape a blade along their bodies.

I could get pretty extreme trying to think of how Turians groom themselves and how their bodies work, but I find people don't react well when I get more outrageous with creating more alien qualities and characteristics to an alien. Particularly if it's a love interest.

When I mention people, I'm referring to other people in case you happen to agree with me. :P

Post those musing in Clan V.  Cause I wanna know XP
Scraping a knife across their bodies sounds just like it would when a woman shaves her legs: not all that different, when you think about it really.
Or clipping your nails with blades/pressure.

@ Nilfalasiel: I have no idea why it didn't work. D: I think the dialogue options might come out the same either way, if your Shepard got the "I'm not interested in you, not in that way." line from the neutral response because I got the same line from the Renegade response. I don't understand it... Ashley gave my MaleShep no trouble at all. She was never interested in him in the first place (her sister said Kaidan was cute in the vids, she always calls Shepard "sir" at the end of their conversations, and her personal conversations ran out already). Liara's a stubborn one.

@ silentstephi: I'm going to check the rest of the turian faces compared to their insignias soon. :) The Wiki gives a list of all the locations, so they shouldn't be hard to find unless I have to drive the Mako over a mountain. It'll be my first real contribution to the thread before page 1,000 - examine the faces of turian corpses for science.

Also, the same thing works for humans too, so in theory all corpses are like that in-game. One of the human corpses... it was blinking. O_O Seriously. Its eyes were moving from side to side, only partially open, and it was blinking.

@ kglaser: "What is that thing and why isn't anyone attacking it?" xD That's hilarious. My first reaction to turians was something along the lines of "It looks so cool!" and then "No, I liked him!" when Nihlus got killed.

I think turians have to file or clip their fringe regularly to keep it from growing... I mean, Saren clearly has what passes for a turian version of an evil mustache >.>
As for their teeth ... maybe the just shed them after a while, like sharks o_o

Almost 1000 pages! Nice to know there is so much love for Garrus.
Here is my idea of young Garrus with his flexible close combat expert girlfriend. As always I allow myself infinite amounts of artistic freedom.

According to the Presidium Grounskeeper, the length of fringes is genetic. Take it with a bag of salt of course, because we still don't know who's behind all this RP'ing. :P

@ lovgreno: Wooo! Moar Garrus!

Ok... I've just seen Miranda's romance (my husband's renegade character), and I've seen Thane's (my friend went for the lizard man), and I romanced Jacob for science.

I really have to say, so far... Garrus' is the best written and sweetest in ME2. My husband plans on romancing Tali on his next playthrough, so I'll see hers next. But Garrus will probably remain my favorite.

Tali's romance is very sweet and involves lots hugging and hand-holding. She really wuvs her MaleShep.

...Which just makes me sorry for her every time Sheploo (I haven't even bothered trying to make a custom MaleShep) graces her with his incredibly creepy grin.

But it does make you think that Garrus' romance is a bit lacking in the PDA department. Even if it's completely in character for him. But just a biiiiit more physical contact woulda been nice.

@ Kim Shepard: I got nothing then. Just hope she doesn't pounce on you during lockdown ><

@ lovgreno: Nice pic there!

I checked out all of the turian insignias except two in a system that's not on the map for whatever reason (Horse Head Nebula - Fortuna), and I'm a little disappointed. Most of them don't actually have turian corpses, just wreckage or planet scanning. One seemed to have the same face as Nihlus (I couldn't position the camera as well this time), but he was from Gothis Colony, and we know Nihlus is from a mercenary outpost... The other corpse, for Quadim Outpost, was clearly human. So it's a possibility that Nihlus is from Bostra Outpost, but it's not definite. ): I'll have to examine all of the corpses to see if they just use the same character head/neck model for all of them. Why they would choose Nihlus, I have no idea.

About turian fringes, I prefer the theory that it's genetic, but the Saren evil mustache comment was pretty funny. xD

Edit:
@ Nilfalasiel: I know, my MaleShep only wants Tali. D: I'll find out in the next few days or less, depending on how fast I play through these side missions and Virmire.

Does getting all of the Turian insignias do anything in ME2?

@ Christmas Ape: In that case, I'll find those insignias soon. Hostile Takeover is my next side mission.

@ Collider: I have no idea. xD

It unlocks a bunch of turian squadmates. Oh well, dreaming is free.

Oh, yeah Tali is very nice, you'll see lots of hand wringing nervousness, hugs, and pouncing at the end. :)

It only just occurred to me: does anyone else find it a bit weird that Liara/Ash/Kaiden aren't ever mentioned with regard to their romances by anyone other than Shepard? I know Joker kind of alludes to it, but it seems that it should have come up at some point elsewhere. Especially if romancing Garrus or Tali.

I know why they didn't really go into that, but I do hope that previous romantic involvement is commented upon by LIs in the next game. Seems like that'd be important.

Well I don't expect it too, they said the ME 3 is going to be another "standalone" so expect another "cannon" Shepard, and just as much talk about past relationships.Since appereantly everyone has to jump on board the 3rd and final ship in the series for the first time. :pinched:

@ janeym27: Well, Kelly can comment on Ash/Kaidan after Horizon. She'll ask you if you were close to them, and you can respond that you miss them. I've not actually seen that convo yet, as I haven't done my faithful-to-Kaidan run yet, but the option is there. Nothing about Liara though.

As for the lack of comments from Garrus and Tali, yeah, it's kind of odd that they don't say anything if you dump Kaidan/Ash for them, but they might just assume that relationship is over, after what happens on Horizon. Same goes for any other ME2 LI. Still, they could've acknowledged it and asked Shepard if the relationship was really over. Same for Liara, especially since the meeting with her is far less confrontational than with the 2 others.

@ Andaius20: Standalone? What does that mean?

From what I gathered They are making it so complete nubies can pick up Me 3 and not have to play the other ones to know whats going on like in ME 2. Thats why I said don't expect alot of references to what you did in ME 2. I'd think they be like all the "big" choices you did in ME 1 that they carried over. AKA email or camo NPC with a few lines of Dialog.

Well for the newbies they are going to purposely have your shepard make horrible decisions as a default, so then it would encourage them to play the other two games.

God, that's going to suck. It's the third damned installment of a series for crying out loud! To hell with the FNGs that were too dumb to pick up the other two games, they've had 3 YEARS to catch up.
